ok, so I've been away from planeshift for awhile now and i want to get back into it the only problem is.... i downloaded the torrent installed it worked fine then it says i have to update to play ok, i update and after 45 minutes and a lot of downloading later it reaches a point where it hangs up and says eta never.... so i close it and try again it doesn't say i need to update even though i never completed the update so i try to play and it crashes when i load my character..... tried repairing and same problem it goes for about 20 minutes and hangs up downloading arts/skins/base/client_base.zip same as when it was updating i uninstalled and reinstalled and i just cant get it to work, any help guys, or a link to download a already updated client?
-
Uninstalling and reinstalled almost never solves anything. In this case the updater keeps track (in a wrong way) of which updates it already has installed in your PS configuration directory..which is not touched at all at a reinstall.
But a "repair" update should do the trick indeed...so it looks like as if your problem is the download of the update. Not sure how to help there. I can only suggest to check your internet connection and make sure your wireless USB stick (if you use one) has a good connection. Doesn't look like an updater problem if the download fails...so try it again a few times and see if you can manage to finish the download.
-
I've tried repairing multiple times, still hangs up at the same spot... i use a wired connection so that's not the problem x.X i'm not sure what to do at this point...
-
repair from command line or use desura
-
tried it from command line same problem, and whats desura?
-
a distribution service like steam http://www.desura.com/
-
tried desura.... it hangs up on 99%.... i think its a server side issue, i just cant download the one file, i tried it on another computer... same issue it hangs up downloading that one file everytime
-
as desura uses their own server which are used to distribute an huge amount of games it's more probable it's a problem in your end if you have issues downloading also with it.
-
hmmm this is strange... every download i try hangs up at the very end...
-
I've tried installing the game on three different computers now, all at different locations, they all encounter the same problem, when i try to update it hangs up on the same file... and as for desura... well I've tried to download it twice now on two different computers at different locations and it hand up on 99% with an ETA of never...
-
Is it possible the partition where the download is being saved is nearly full?
-
I don't see how that could be the problem o.O
one of the computers i tried installing it on had a brand new installation of windwos on it.
-
if you use desura you don't use pslaunch to update keep it as downloaded
-
There is a known issue with the updater updating itself (http://www.hydlaaplaza.com/flyspray/index.php?do=details&task_id=5466): It hangs while exchanging its own executable file (pslaunch.exe). But it should be possible to just close the launcher and start it again.
Is that the case you are referring to?
-
the problem with desura is that when its downloading it hangs up on 99%, as in in the download itself wont complete, as for planeshift updating, its the file arts/skins/base/client_base.zip it gets to 67% and then hangs up, it says eta never, i've tried closing it and retrying but it still hangs up at 67% for that file on all the computers i've tried it on
-
seeing as the updater is broken, and desura is not working either, can anyone tell me where to download the game? and i mean a fully updated one not the one thats posted on the main page
-
You can't....you can only download version 0.5.8. The 0.5.8.1 version is only available through the updater...but that version fixes some pretty nasty bugs. So looks like the only way is to fix your download problems.
One the other hand it should be possible to download the file that fails for you manually from the update-server. But as the server doesn't allow to browse the directories I have no clue where to find it. So you have to use the web location the updater (with --repair) tells you for the file...and then overwrite the PS file manually with it. Next time the updater shouldn't try anymore to download that specific file.
-
well if someone can tell me exactly how to manually update that would be nice... this is starting to piss me off though, i really want to start playing again but i can't get anywhere with ANY download on any computer i try it on
-
Easiest way...get in IRC (http://www.planeshift.it/irc.html) and try asking for help there. Much easier to help if you can interact ;)
Otherwise...run pslaunch.exe from the command line and post the output that that we can see what does wrong there...and suggest manual fixes.
Edit: I was told that windows doesn't write anything to to console with only --repair. So it's probably needed to starty "pslaunch.exe --console --repair" to get some infos
-
could someone just upload a torrent of the updated client in a .rar or something and let me download it that way?
-
1) That would probably be a forbidden redistribution. So – certainly not in public.
2) It wouldn't solve the reason. Who knows when you will face the same issue next time?
-
gah... looks like im not going to be able to play >.>
-
so, is anyone going to help me? I've tried it on so many different computers now the only possible thing i can think of is that its a server side issue with the file art/skins/base/client_base.zip it hangs up at 67% on all of the different computers i have tried it on, it's a replicable issue and not a freak accident, i've tried it on multiple operating systems (winxp and win7) i've tried it at different locations, and i don't know how to get it working.....
-
try wget (http://wget.addictivecode.org/FrequentlyAskedQuestions?action=show&redirect=Faq#download) on the specific file. it has a resume feature.
What does your updateservers.xml say?
-
- <mirrors>
<mirror id="1" name="updater" url="http://194.116.72.94/update/" repair="true" />
</mirrors>
-
and can i get a step by step walkthrough on using wget to get the specific file i need, im rather good with coding and programming but this is gibberish to me
-
should be wget /?
but at any rate man: wget (http://www.gnu.org/software/wget/manual/wget.html)
may not help.
Your best bet might be going on irc (freenode server) and channel #planeshift-build and talking to someone there.
The specific file you will want is the one that keeps failing but I couldn't find out where it was on the hierarchy at that address
-
First off...I updated a plain PS binary version (0.5.8) just 4 days ago here to test something (Linux/Gentoo 64 bit version). I had no problem at all with client_base.zip. (The file is about 22MB...so shouldn't tate that long to download). So the problem is either on your end...or only shows up when trying to repair a different version of PS.
Now to the attempts of solving your problem...You were told to get in IRC now already two times. But as this is obviously no options for you we have to do it the slow way. First...what system are you on? One time you say this problem is for a window client you installed...Which windows version and did you use windows versions on all computers you tried?
Second...what is the exact output of the launcher when doing a repair. There is no way anyone can point you to the right file to download without that information. I didn't ask for those infos just out of the blue.
Other things you can try: Delete/Rename the whole config directory of PlaneShift...in case of windows that can be found at "%AppData%/PlaneShift". Also remove/rename "updaterinfo.xml" and "updateservers.xml" in your PlaneShift install directory. Though I don't assume this will help much as from the looks it's a download problem and not an updater-config problem.
