i played this for 30 minutes over lunch and i'm pretty sure i beat the game. also, i never said a word to anybody, nor saw anyone communicating in any way. it defeats the purpose of making a game MMO when the gameplay would be identical if you were playing own your own.

I think it's just an experiment/demo of HTML5 and websockets capabilities, rather than a real full blown game. See: http://hacks.mozilla.org/2012/03/browserquest/
The idea is to encourage developers to use modern open Web technologies for games, demonstrating how they can be applied.

kinda how like this little project is just a demo/showcase of what can be done with Crystal Space, rather than a real full blown game?
-
May be. At least that tiny game got more users on-line than PS on an average day ;D

Doesn't run in Opera. Meh.

It can run in Opera, if you enable websockets support (the game relies on websockets for communication):
http://techdows.com/2010/12/enable-websockets-in-opera-11.html
I guess Opera developers decided to disable it by default in the last release (since they didn't finish polishing all security issues). Firefox itself enabled them by default very recently, but they were optionally available for a while already.
-
Good to know. Well, when popularity of this technology rises (and it was tested enough), Opera will probably enable it.
Played it a bit, and well, it is quite respectable. I could imagine it attracting a severe amount of precious office time. :P

and slow as hell in firefox11. slower than any game I've played recently with 3d graphics at 1080p.

I didn't see any slowness when I tried it. But I suspect it can depend on their server load. Just tried it again - no slowness. It does eat some CPU though. If it's slow and you still have spare CPU and memory - something must be wrong with the connection.
