How do you all feel about a NPC militia in some of the more law-abiding town patrolling or standing guard, watching for law-breaking activities.
Say if someone picked a pocket in the middle of a street and failed a check, the militia man off to the side would notice. You would spend an hour in jail, (you could log off while this hour is taking place), assigned a fine, and sent on your way.
I think this would add a more realistic element to the game. Also, it would make a thief really earn their money. A MUD I used to play had something similar to this, and it made thieving much more fun. Hey, you could actually get caught! In that game, if you didnt have the money to pay your fine, that character was in jail for the rest of his/her life. It really adds excitement to the stealthy arts ;)
Thanks for reading!
Edit: Also, this would put some control on PK and PvP in towns. Any initiator of fighting would have to deal with 5 or 6 very skilled guards. Makes these activities go into a realm where newbies arent getting slaughtered right and left.

This sounds sweet. and what about making them act in realistic modes? Suddenly, an army from another town comes and fights this town, you can protect it by joining the militia. sometimes, you could see NPCs walking a path, fighting, etc.

Spend the rest of your life in jail? Wouldn\'t that mean permanent banning? No thanks! :)

i fell in a spot in the city today where id never been before, and i found a place (its down an alley some where) with a sherrifs badge outside :D just htought ud like to know that with the city watch speak going off.

NPC guards are already in PS ...well, at least they claim they\'re guards, but i\'d also like to see some PC guards and praetors

Bombyz,
I hope they would act realistic. Patrolling, reacting to acts committed by players, etc.
Fanomatic2000,
You took my statement a different way than intended. That character that committed the crime, and only that character would be sent to jail. Ideally, another character, (owned by that same player or a friend), could earn the money to bail them out.
Skain,
Thanks for the heads up. Hopefully guards get implemented with some intelligence about what goes on around them.
hook,
Well, they arent really guards until they behave like them, right? ;)
Thanks!

Yeah, I hear that. I havent much time since work is shipping me out to Phoenix on Sunday for the week. Trying to get all prepped for that.
Anyways, is the logo like a wild west sherriff\'s badge? I surely hope not. Everytime I look at that I will think of Billy the Kid or some other cowboy. Not something I want in my head while playing a fantasy rpg.
