Hi guys,
First, this game sounds absolutely brilliant, in concept and from the screenshots! I'm looking forward to trying it out :)
However, I installed the 64 bit version. When I first tried it, there was just a black screen after hitting play. Then I updated it and repaired it. Now when I hit play, the menu simply restarts. Nothing's launched, it just reloads the menu.
I have up to date graphics drivers and only one video card.
Any ideas would be good :) Thanks for your time.
My specs:
Motherboard: Crosshair-V-Formula- 990FX
CPU: x8 FX-8150
Video Card: 2G 6950 Powercolor
RAM: 16Gig 1600 G.Skill Sniper
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit

So it has a Radeon HD 6950 chipset?
Did you install Catalyst (which version exactly) or do you rely on Microsoft graphic drivers?
-
Yep, the Radeon HD 6950 chipset.
Catalyst drivers, version 12.3.
Update: I tried the 32 bit version. My antivirus found a backdoor trojan when I hit play the first time. Then it kept returning to menu like the 64 bit version.
-
are you sure that your antivirus detection heuristic isn't a bit too high and deleting files?
-
Maybe, but that doesn't explain the 64 bit version...
I'll try the 32 bit version again but I'm a bit cautious of turned down my antivirus. ::|
edit: I turned the antivirus off, repaired it and it brought me to the login screen!
Except it says the main server is offline, so I can't login.
I've turned the antivirus on again (feeling a bit nervous without it). Hopefully it's all good. the next time I login.
More edit: The antivirus caught it again: Backdoor.Win32.Ceckno.RAA@18514656 in psclient.exe
It didn't come up with this for the 64bit version. http://www.hydlaaplaza.com/smf/index.php?topic=35771.0 <--this indicated it could be a false positive... it just makes me mighty nervous. My scanning level is actually 'low'.
-
Which Antivirus is it? -- Try to send this case as "false positive" to its development. It might find some "suspicious behaviour" in the game client, but for an online game, it is pretty usual to e.g. create a socket and exchange packets via UDP. This is not yet a suitable reason to suspect it as malware.
-
It's Comodo antivirus and firewall.
I've never had a problem with any other online game, but you're probably right.
I played around with it a bit more... disabled both Antivirus and Firewall. The game crashes a lot, but even without that the main server isn't being found at the login screen. Not really sure what the next step is :-\

If you execute it in windowed mode (set in the launcher app under settings) do you see 0.5.9 on the top bar or 0.5.8 ?
-
Definitely 0.5.9.

http://community.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=1076312 seems also eve is a virus. Also the failed server is probably a problem on your end. filtered ports/outgoing etc.
-
I did read that. Google has limited results though, so it's not a common problem. Who knows =/
Well... if you mean filtered through a firewall, I tried it with my firewall and antivirus disabled and got the same failed server thing. Generally speaking the client doesn't seem to be stable on my machine, so it could just be incompatibilty. Ah well! Perhaps when the game is released in full :)
