Hello all. I'm quite happy to have found a game that actually works on my old machine running Ubuntu. I am new to roleplaying in this way, although I've done a bit of table top roleplaying. I am still very much learning the world, so if you run into me (Nyxienne is my character name) and I don't speak, it's just because I'm still trying to learn where my character fits in to the history. I don't mean to be rude--I just don't want to muck up anyone's RP experience until I know more about my own character. See you around!

Hello there. :) Although I doubt you are likely to muck anything up, you can always use brackets [] around what you say to keep your comments out of character and still be able to talk. Have fun.

Listening is a very recommendable step; learn about the habits of the people. Then it is easier to join them.

Don't be afraid to interact... ever!  The only way to find your place is to immerse yourself in the world.  Over time you will notice there are a very wide range of intensity, interests and styles.  What makes it diverse is the different flavors that everone brings in with them.  I would suggest reading the settings overview  (http://www.planeshift.it/setting.html) and History of Yliakum (http://www.planeshift.it/history.html) until you have a firm grasp of the ingame world.

Once you have the history and settings down let your character react to the interactions of the world around him/her and have a blast!  Theres always someone willing to help so dont get discouraged too soon.  This is not a game you just jump into and play, the player has to conform to the world to a certain degree.  You will be glad you stuck it out through the process of acclimation I promise!
