Title: weapon identification
Post by: shangralah on November 13, 2012, 01:45:33 am
I hate to be a bother and sound like a super noob, but someone should help me figure out how to identify weapons in game. I know there is a spell or something like that. If you got nothing else to do just send me a tell when you see me on.

My in game character is Bobodar, by the way.  ;)

Indentification spells based on "Dweomer" (checking for magical buffs) used to exist, have been disabled in the meantime, and became available again (re-invented) quite recently.

I believe I heard that one of the brodrs of the Hammer found such a spell recently, see if you can find Qiner, maybe Evaraj too. It will certainly be related on the Divination of an Object ...

take a look in the museum in lower East Hydlaa, there was a book in there. It could be of some use but it is probably out of date.

What is prefix / adjective / suffix in the identification process? It's pretty confusing and useless without explanation.

http://www.hydlaaplaza.com/flyspray/index.php?do=details&task_id=5833:

According to the affix IDs returned by the spell ...
<suffix> <prefix> <name> of the <adjective>
...
The following permutation seems somewhat reasonable:
<adjective> <prefix> <name> of the <suffix>

And yes, it is limited of use, as the most interesting properties are very tedious to track down. And there are many of them beyond the contents of the famous book mentioned above.

it's a debug information which didn't got discarded before mirroring :P
it will be removed at the next update.
we would also like to add mare information regarding item special properties (like attack and defence bonuses) but it won't require a spell update just a server patch

Thanks, and I was wondering if those numbers mean some defense/attack modifiers ;)

So different spells are intended for items with different level of uniqueness or they are supposed to identify items differently?

Nha those numbers are just IDs which means nothing for players and can be safely ignored.  ;)
I don't want to spoil too much  :) but I can say different spells have different changes to identify magic items. Some item will not be identifiable with the simplest spell while the most powerful will easily identify any item.

Debug information is not such a bad thing. The type of affix helps you to see which of them are mutually exclusive in those cases where it is not quite obvious.

Believe me in this case it's quite useless unless you know what the spell script logic is, and such numbers are really less interesting then the modifier name itself ;)

Heheh, I did not mean the numerical values, just the distinction between adjectives and prefixes, as an item can only have one of each, e.g. all adjectives are mutually exclusive.
