Title: Problems logging in after update
Post by: Magmir on February 11, 2013, 03:13:51 am
Hello

I started the launcher today and it told me there was an update available. After downloading it it's impossible to play on the client. Log in works fine, loading screen works fine but as soon as the loading bar is full, the client crashes. Tried repair, cleaning cache, reinstall, changing graphics, turning of sound.

From crashreport:

Unfortunately, the errorlog.txt logs anything but the really interesting details about the crash reason.

It is always interesting to know your graphic card chipset; but in this case, the reason might be very different, like e.g. your character being in a wrong location due to a database issue, or whatever... so knowing the name of your character may be important as well, to check if resetting the position helps.

Seems like I'm having login problems after update too. Tried repair, tried creating a new character, but no avail, after loading bar reaches to %100, game crashes. Any advices?

Exactly my problem as well. I've tried to create a new char as well to no avail so by logic it can't have something to do with char location.

My graphic card is a Nvidia GTX 260

I had this issue as well, also on the loading screen, and so did a couple of others I spoke with, but I was fine after I removed the game completely then installed from scratch. By the sounds of it you tried that already though, so not sure what I can suggest.

Hello,

same problem for me - when psclient.exe reaches "Loading GUI", it crashes.
My graphic card is NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260. I have tried to Repair, and to reduce my Graphics settings, but no avail.

Ideas, anybody?

Thanks for listening,

Gonger

Reinstalling the game in another directory solved the problem for me and one other. Reinstalling it in the same/default directory didn't help. Hope this helps.

If you say "reinstalling", do you mean with or without uninstalling and completely removing the old installation directory first? I'd recommend "with". And keep in mind that there are two directories: One with the program and art, and the other in the user account, application data branch, with personal and customized settings.

And yes, using (now suddenly outdated) GUI modifications is a usual reason for crashes when the GUI definitions changed.

No, I have only installed without uninstalling first. And in the same directory of course. If I use the uninstall, will the other directory with user data and all that be removed as well? Or do I have to delete that on my own?

It will probably persist; but to be safe, make a backup first, that can't be wrong.

Windows: %APPDATA%\PlaneShift
Linux: ~/.PlaneShift
MacOS X: ~/Library/Application Support/PlaneShift ("Library" is usually hidden)

Well, due to issues with my original install, I just went in and deleted everything by myself, then installed creating directory for game. After that it worked fine. I'm not sure if Skel used uninstall or something else, but I know he removed the game 'before' installing again to make it work. Simply re-installing without removal first didn't work.

Hello,

So I uninstalled PlaneShift (standard install - no mods whatsoever), manually removed some files that were still left, then downloaded the latest version (PlaneShift-v0.5.9.2-x64.exe), and ran the updater.
I start pslaunch.exe, and it says:
Your client version is 0.5.9.7
Your launcher version is 3.04

I set graphics settings pretty low (Texture, Shaders and Particles on Medium, no Grass, no Shadows), then try to Play. Login screen says 0.5.9.2 (!).
I chose a character, and click Join. The game starts to load (showing 0.5.9.2), but crashes while "Loading GUI".

What else can I do? Any help is strongly appreciated!

I too had problems with the 64bit when I first installed the game. Since then I use the 32bit client happily.

Same here, I'm finally able to login again, after uninstalling then reinstalling. Thanks for the advice.
