I just tried the new mesa 9.1 and could run ps with spell effects on my laptop. Responded smoothly while casting flame spire and defensive wind, plus freeze on a poor rat :)
Before Kenneth Grauke´s patch came into the released drivers this was an absolute no-go, with almost halting all of my machine....
