Title: free student's version for autodesk products

Hi all,

a collegue alerted me to this:

I didn't try myself, but according to him, a student's ID is not required, only a registration by email. I also don't know how the licensing works for the "results" you produce.

But in any case, I thought that Maya and 3ds Max for free might interest some of you.  :)

I tried this once a few years back, if it's the same edition I had, you get a big "STUDENT EDITION" watermark on your renders but it's good for practice and/or trying the product.

If you just want free 3D software, though, I suggest sticking with Blender.

I've been using the student version and mine doesn't give the big fat watermark now. I have access to everything for like 3 years and the only problems come when my computer wipes and I have to ask them to let me reinstall.

If you haven't learned in max or maya then blender is probably fine but if those are your comfort zone you really want to use those. :)

For those trying this, use your school email address (.edu) when signing up or it may give you trouble. I had that problem at first.

 :-[ The information on CrystalSpace's For Artists (http://www.crystalspace3d.org/main/Creating_Art) page seems to be a little outdated; but jorrit just surprised me in IRC:

CrystalSpace now contains an own rewritten Blender2Crystal exporter, compatible with Blender 2.6; the old b2cs project (delcorp, leapingcat, Peragro Tempus updates) is obsolete now.

Students all over the world have been getting pirated versions of autodesk programs all these years anyway. They just seem to have realized this was to autodesk's benefit since said students were not forced to turn into a free program like blender. They obviously offer programs for free because blender is strong enough to compete in terms of quality too, aside price.

Doesn't the free version stamp "Student Version" or something like that on your work?
If so, is that a problem for projects like ps?

It used to do that but I don't have that problem now.
