Spring break!
:sweatdrop: As promised, we’re working on the planning for the first to my knowledge ever Domewide Convention of all things magical and all players, magic training or not!
And by “we’re” I mean :whistling: YOU!!! :love: And me! And anyone/ everyone who wants to help and participate! :thumbup:
The ideas are still in the planning stages, so there’s lots of room for your suggestions. And as player organized, its another chance for anyone to help make this a great roleplaying opportunity for all.
TIME AND DATE: I’m thinking Sat March 24, 10 am to 2 or 3 pm PDT, which I think is GM-8 or -9 depending on daylight time zones in Europe.
LOCATION: Somewhere where there is enough space that lagging/ crashing from magic and items is minimized, somewhere close to a city so travel is easy for newer players, safe from mobs, and with room for a variety of activities AND social space for rping.
Like maybe right outside East Gate of Hydlaa on the grassy plane before the portal? Ideas?
People who know about lag and such (which isn’t me) please suggest the ‘best’ spot
ACTIVITIES I’ve been thinking about.
:sorcerer: The MASTERS OF ALL WAYS: A presentation panel featuring at least one full Master player from each Way. The Masters will talk briefly about their magic, and why it’s the best. This isn’t meant as a debate, but instead, as a recruitment and informative discussion, with Q and A from attendees, and demonstrations of spells from each Way.
Maybe even a demonstration of the rarest of glyphs used in a spell, so those of us who will never find that glyph or train that high might see the spell in use, and hear it described?
:sorcerer: The INNER SANCTUM of MASTERY : a time specifically for those in magic training, and especially on the master quests, to meet each other from different ways, to lend and borrow items we need to advance in our master quests, and come back quickly to each other.
:sorcerer: THE GRAND FEAST OF MAGICK: An all day offering of food and beverages with lots of long tables to sit down and have conversations in a purely social rp environment. Could include an offering of toasts, or special flaming desserts!
:sorcerer: SPELL BINDING DEMONSTRATIONS of magic and magic lessons, alchemy, enchantments, for small group role plays and for those newer to magic ingame to ask questions, meet fellow magicians, ask for magical help in role plays, etc. Some can be scheduled – other lessons can combust spontaneously throughout the event, but perhaps not during the ‘big’ community wide parts- the Masters of all Ways presentations, and the Tales of Magic storytelling. This would be a great place for Guilds to staff booths or areas giving ongoing demos.
:sorcerer: The Merchants of Magicks Market: Stalls and booths by anyone who wants to sell magic related items- enchanted armor, potions and alchemies, glyphs, books on magic, well, frankly, anything folks want to sell, but with an emphasis on magick stuff.
:sorcerer: Mage vs. Mage: For those who like dueling, there could be competitions and matches. Again someone who knows about dueling and how to make it fair, we need your technical and rping expertise to organize and run such a tournament.
:sorcerer: The Arts of Magick- Guilds and/ or individuals are invited to set up sculptures on the perimeters of the fair grounds (like those great ‘palm trees’) made out of everyday items. Magically themed entries are encouraged. Players view the sculptures throughout the event, and vote (in a public book) for their one favorite: the winning team/ artist gets some good prize.
:sorcerer: Tales of Magick and Wonder: And ending the day, with the help of the weather goddess and the GMs, as darkness falls, the campfires are lit, and torches ring the circle of magic. All gather for the great Tales of Magic storytelling! The ale flows, and the listeners sit in the ‘dark’ , under the enchantment of really good stories! These short stories could come from rps, or could be fictions, whatever. The best tale teller will get a big prize, like maybe a rare glyph or rare enchanted weapon, or something! \\o//

There is room for all players of any skill levels from zero to High Masters to celebrate the Magic of our Dome.
Who would like to help?
Be a High Master Way presenter/ speaker (what way are you master in?)
Teach tips about magic and its uses
Demonstrate and discuss alchemy
Demonstrate and discuss enchanted armor, buffs
Town criers about the event, encouraging folks to sign up in advance for some events
Make flyers for IG passing out to everyone!
Coordinate a magic duel tournament, or contest, or just little competitions, I don’t know!
Bring food and drink
Arrange the food and drink tables, with some decorations that won’t lag us all too much
Set up and clean up
Coordinate the placement for the sculptures
Coordinate the Arts judging
Coordinate and emcee the Tales of Magick
Recruit storytellers for the tales of Magick
Get campfires and torches and set up/’ clean up same
Overall timing coordinators- 2-3 stage managers who can be there for the whole event to keep things on course.
I know this is ambitious! But hey it’s SPRING :sweatdrop: BREAK and I don’t have the bucks to go to X-/ Cancun!!

Hmm, this sounds more extensive than the Ball, but I hope you can pull it all off.
However, I would say that people could start RPing about it now, say RPing getting their character prepared for it, and start building up the buzz and expectation of it. Even characters that aren't magically inclined or that can't make it themselves can start finding ways to work it into their RPs.
However, to assist in making things like flyers and spreading the word, who is ICly putting this on and what, if any, advertising lines would you like to use?

Nice idea Roled. I have some questions/comments.
When you say 'A presentation panel featuring at least one full Master player from each Way.' I presume you mean an IC master so someone who has gained the rank by questing (and has masters items). As players use to confuse the two, I don't know how clear the difference is now amongst you all.
When it comes to time, do you mean Saturday the 23rd or Sunday the 24th? One problem with this is that it is only one weekend between now and then. I personally plan in terms of weekends as that's when most people are on and can learn about any events. So if you want this to go down well in 11or12 days you're going to need to get a move on with getting everything setup and advertise heavily this week(end) and get people signed up for doing things (you should also list them all here when you do so people can see how many are coming). You should pester sarva right now to get him to post this on the calender.
East Hydlaa is probably a suitable place for it. I can put the stage back there so it can be used. And there are already all the stalls/tables/chairs. The cooking/alchemy equipment can be moved back as well for anyone wanting to RP cook/alchemise(?) with.
Temporary KAs could also be added to archmages along with crazy levrus, if you want some more advertising. I can't do this directly as i don't have access so (unless Talad is nice and gives me access like I want) it needs a day or two to get added and then taken down after.
Locking stuff down to advertise is easy, any gm can do that.
Might (fingers crossed) have a selection of magic books released by then, if so ill turn up and sell em.
I think with all the activities if you get a good set of people to help you with each one it could go down really well.

Maybe some GM's run char can auction/sell/RP gift some of the rarest glyph to the way's trainee (my idea is to allow a way student to gain access to the rarest glyph necessary to learn more advanced spells while those glyphs are not yet available through the related way quest chain).

I may be hardly available in game until the event, but this gave me a deadline to finish outlining my character and get the hell back into the game, so thumbs up for doing this.
Can't wait to attend the convention and I really do wish you all the luck in making it happen. If you come up short a pair of hands feel free to drop me a PM, I may not be the most up to date player but an old dog still has things worth sharing.

FIRST TO CLARIFY TIME - /me facepalms . I meant Saturday. Maybe Sat the 30th would give us more time to organize as Ven reminds me.... Who votes for Sat 23? Who votes for the 30th? 10 am to 2 or 3 Pacific Daylight time. Voting means you can come then and will do your best to be there!
We NEED all of you, as Illy and Ven point out, not a lot of time to organize. Here's 1) specifically needed energy from you for a few pre-event organizing roles, and 2) answers to questions and unclear things from my little brain. (I put some names in ? as suggestions and nudges only- no one has firmly committed yet so if you're interested in coordinating one of these areas but I didn't put you name in, VOLUNTEER!! there is room for all!!! I will attempt to act as liaison coordinator for all the activities within the event)
1)The Magicks Convention needs someone please in each of these roles, to start talking things up Now please!
A) Master Mage Panel Coordinator- find Masters (folks who have done the Quest series and have picked one Way and Mastered in it through the Quests) for each way and get them to commit to attending at least for that hour. (Gova? Herihi?)
B) STORYTELLING Coordinator: Recruit 5 or 6 folks ready to tell their stories and commit to attending at least for that hour. One story focusing on each of the Ways would be tremendously superb! (Illy? Aleeana?)
c) GUILD ART SCUPTURE Coordinator: Recruit 4-5 guilds to commit to making a 'magical' sculpture to be ready by the beginning of the event. (Dannae? Marianna?)
d) Merchant Coordinator: Recruit people to set up and sell some stuff (Taya? Derator?)
E) Coordinator of Cooks: Recruit people to bring foods and drinks of different types- 10 to 12 folks at least bringing food! (Lumi? Minks?)
f) Duel Coordinator Set up the system, make the duel schedule, oversee the matches (Bonifarza? )
g) In Game/ Forum PR Coordinator: Make ig books to announce events, once the schedule is set (by this Friday night PDT) ; make schedule postings on forums, help get the word out quickly to folks .
This is a need that anyone can help pass info around to everyone you play with and see this weekend... but making the flyers etc is not my skill. (Illy? maybe a Guild could do this too? I'm not sure if I can make those times but we'll see. But, I will do what I can to try and find some other storytellers. However, next time you do an event this large in such a short period of time, please hand out the magic wands first. ;)
I'll see what we can do about flyers, but that's what the templates I posted earlier are for, we just need the specifics and then we can plug and chug in terms of forum posts. The words can also be used for in game flyers as well.

Good luck with this, it looks promising. So the time window is about 10-15 GMT-7 if i got that right. Good that the events.php will give you a count-down timer to avoid time zone confusions once you have things settled.

After talking to lots of folks in game and several here, it seems Saturday the 30th is the preferred date. I know LigH it's Easter weekend, and I am really sorry we're likely to conflict with people's holiday. The Saturday before Easter is often a quieter day for those of the christian persuasion, but I know not always.

This sounds like it should be a lot of fun, and I'll definitely try to make it. I shouldn't volunteer to help though because I don't know if I'll be available and for how long, plus my client is really buggy and prone to crashes so there's no guarantee I'll even be able to make it in game even if I'm free. But, this looks really well planned out and it should be fun. I have an up-and-coming DW mage/alchemist who would definitely be interested. If I can come I'll try to bring some potions or something to set out.
Just out of curiosity, how are things going to be arranged? Will each Circle have its own little area/section? Or will it all be kinda lumped together?
It could be kind of fun to get some friendly (or not so friendly) competitions going between members of the different Ways.

The schedule is a combination of people all Ways together (the Master Mage's panel and Q&A), smaller group demos (by Way), duels could be arranged between opposing way members to 'see which Way is best' hahahha. And then just social rping time where you are likely to meet others of your Way, or learn more about magicks you haven't studied yet.
Schedule will be posted soon - we need a few more leader/volunteers before I post.

To help get the word out about the Convention. I've made up some flyers and set out some crates for making them availible to everyone. The crates are located between Harn's Smithy and Octarch's Way on the edge of the plaza.
Please take a flyer and help to distribute others. Also, please help me to keep the crates stocked with flyers. You can get books from Jayose and copy the flyer text into a .txt file. Save them with your other stored books and quickly load the file to make new flyers. I would suggest keeping the title short like > [Flyer] Great Convention of Magicks.

Gova here. What about compiling a grimoire (shut up firefox it is too a word) containing glyph combinations submitted by attendees? That should help new players out a bit. I'm also planning on releasing a couple books I've been working on regarding magic enchantments of the looted kind.

I admit my little elfbrain can't get around your first point- do you mean attendees make up possible glyph combos and name then, that don't actually exist, or do you mean glyph combos that do make implemented spells? We are thinking that during the demos time, right after the Master's panel, people can ask one on one knowledgeable expert players about spells and how to find them.

Oh I just mean collecting the known spells in one book for attendees. I could also work on determining the effects of player-made enchantments, but I'll have to try and find some time and a partner to help. Only way to test those is to blast at someone wearing them and see what happens...

I'm currently trying to collect diamond crystals enchanted with glyphs from Ways other than Crystal, as I can't do them myself. Hopefully it won't take too long to find some.

So... I didn't think I could be here for this, but now it turns out that I 'probably' can be.
I don't think I want to do any kind of merchanting, but if there is a role I can fill, either from Tay or an alt, let me know.
(Tay can cast pretty much any spell unless there are ones I have not found, so if you are short on demonstrations for any certain way, just give the word.)

For those of you wanting to participate in the Parade!
The Parade starts at 10AM PDT! If you're participating in the Festival, or just coming to visit, Roled and Caraick invite you to take part! We will be meeting at 9:50 just outside of the Oja Road portal outside of East Hydlaa. Note that you don't have to be a member of the Magic Panel, or any of the other events to participate! Try and get there on time so you can be a part of the parade!
We'll see you all tomorrow at the Festival!

This seemed to be an extremely well attended event in spite of the holiday. According to server stats, peak was about 77 people which means it probably could have been higher during another time. It is probably worth it to keep in mind to do this event again some time.

The Clamod's attention turns over and towards the Derghir standing neadr the crowd's edge. "Perhaps you might have some understanding you wish to share with the Convention today?" he calls over.
(19:04:25) Menille claps in appreciation for all the speakers
(19:04:42) Qed nods to Menille and claps
(19:04:43) Kaerli claps vigorously in appreciation for the panel.
(19:04:44) Gonger says: Yes, let Azarnith speak!
(19:05:12) Aluna looks over at the Derghir "Oh wow! How amazing."

(19:06:13) Azarnith raises it's head and looks at Caraick. The head nods slowly, as the voice talks the bell translates. "I was moved by a sense that something interesting was happening."
(19:06:37) Zalya nods "I know. I've never seen one of them up close before. He just wandered in. Should I can them a he? Maybe I should use kra. They are like kran right?"
(19:07:07) [Shout] Caraick dips his head to the Derghir as the bell in the creature's hands translates for the group at large. The Clamod steps back, and gestures to a point near the front of the stage. "Would you care to contribute, then?" he asks.
(19:07:36) Gonger quickly moves out of the way.
(19:07:52) Azarnith listens for a moment and then slowly nods. The stone legs unfold and the derghir moves to the stage.
(19:08:08) Gonger says: Welcome Azarnith.
(19:08:08) Kaerli applauds for Azarnith
(19:08:33) Aluna scratches her head "Oh dear.... I didn't think about Kran! I didn't make anything for them!"
(19:08:39) [Shout] Roled mumbles "Tis Amazing! I haint ne'er seen a Derghir move from the Colony!"
(19:08:42) Zalya looks to Aluna, "I want to go up and listen to what kra has to say."
(19:08:57) Zalya smiles and moves up "Kran don't wear clothes that often."
(19:09:09) Aluna giggles running over to the crowd
(19:09:13) Azarnith eyes the crowd. The eyes linger a moment on the kran in the crowd. The derghir mounts the stage with a tremondous effort.
(19:09:23) [GM] Aldaaren Phostle shouts: You are all going to die. don't say I didn't warn you.
(19:10:10) Azarnith head pivots toward the prophet. The eyes narrow slightly and a low groan comes from the derghir.
(19:10:34) Kaerli grumbles something about crazy people.
(19:11:00) Azarnith sets the bell down at the stone feet. "We are not exempt from being misunderstood, just like all the other races in Yliakum."
(19:11:07) Zalya pushes her way into the crowd. After a moment she spots Lilura. A mischiefous grin spreads accross her face she tars Lilura's right shoulder and then ducks around kra's leftshoulder.
(19:11:47) Azarnith speaks up slightly.
(19:11:53) Kaerli nods in understanding to Azarnith.
(19:12:05) Shelte starts to fall asleep as the derghir speaks, his old eyes needing a little rest.
(19:12:10) [Shout] Azarnith shouts: It is not a well known fact there are actually two types of Derghir in this world.
(19:12:11) Lilura looks to kras right

(19:14:13) Azarnith opens its mouth and a drawn out gravelly sound comes out.

(19:30:08) Zalya looks back to Lilura and speaks softly to kra. "You've never tried to eat one, have you?"
(19:30:16) Gonger cheers loudly.
(19:30:17) Mordaan applauds
(19:30:18) Eredin claps
(19:30:19) Azarnith shifts and rolls its head. The derghir looks over to Caraick and nods. "thank you."
(19:30:20) Kaerli gives a long round of applause for Azarnith.
(19:30:27) Moja applauds.
(19:30:29) Pakerl claps loudly, hailing the speakers
(19:30:31) Lilura shakes kras head "no"
(19:30:31) Lumi claps to Azarnith effort : " Thank you friend !"
(19:30:42) [Shout] Roled shouts: Lets hear it fer all our Masters of Magicks, and our special guests, Master Azarnith and uh, well, Sir, I suppose, Aldaaren!" Roled claps heartily.
(19:30:54) Menille claps loudly for Azarnith

(19:31:09) Pakerl stands up, clapping
(19:31:15) Shelte's head pops up with all the clapping and joins in "Very interesting."
(19:31:21) [Shout] Zarre shouts: "Cheers to all the speakers today."
(19:31:22) Gova says: Thank you for sharing with us, Azarnith. It's a pleasure seeing you here.
(19:31:24) Aluna claps "Wonderful you all!"
(19:31:29) Shelte looks about trying to work out what he has missed.
(19:31:31) Zalya turns and starts to head back to her post at the food stand.
(19:31:32) [Shout] Roled shouts: Tis a wonderful start to our Convention! We are about to open the vending stalls, and the demonstrations of alchemy and potition. We also have expert inall magick ways if ye has questions. Ye still haa few moments to register fer our first drawing, in one minute! Whisper yer manme to me and I will asdd ye to the list!
(19:31:46) Azarnith nods to Gova.
(19:31:49) Helka burps quietly, letting out a stench that reeks of vomit and fresh ale. "Damn noise... freakin woke me up...."
(19:31:50) Caraick bows his head to Roled, then motions for the other Panelists to follow him down from the stage.
(19:32:10) Colvax claps and smiles.
(19:32:15) [Shout] Roled shouts: Welcome All to the Great Convention of Magicks and Mages! Be sure ye register for the prize drawings- see Roled Rolak to get yer raffle number!
(19:32:20) Aluna claps with glee as she runs to set up.
(19:42:44) Azarnith looks back to Gonger, "It is the will of Her for me to return to the village."
(19:43:06) Gonger nods solemnly. "We are honoured by your visit. Travel safely."
(19:43:32) Butat says: Greetings
(19:43:54) Butat says: I am surprised to find you in our city
(19:44:01) Azarnith starts out the gate. "Interesting place this city."
(19:44:05) Butat says: But you are quite welcome
(19:44:24) Butat says: It is unusually busy today
(19:44:49) Azarnith pauses to answer Butat, "I was drawn here for a purpose. I suppose it was so I could learn more about the ways of the city that you all come and go from."
(19:45:09) Butat nods thoughtfully.
(19:45:15) Butat says: Did you find your trip worthwhile?
(19:45:25) Azarnith nods, "I did."
(19:45:37) Zalya pauses and approaches Azarnith, "Oh excuse me mister umm Azanirth. I had a question to ask before you left."
(19:45:37) Butat says: Good.
(19:45:45) Sanrai says: Greetings, teacher.
(19:45:51) Butat says: Perhaps it will improve relations between our kind.
(19:46:07) Azarnith greets Sanrai. "Keep up your studies. It is time for me to return to the village."
(19:46:12) Elhorien says: Lord Arioch
(19:46:19) Lumi says: And one crayfigh delight, one !
(19:46:29) Sanrai says: Good to see you. *smiles*
(19:47:40) Sanrai says: Quite a surprise to see him....
(19:47:48) Butat says: I hope you managed to keep Aldaaran away from him!
(19:48:30) Moja nods again to Sanrai "Yes, but a good one..."
