Title: Make money hard to come by
Post by: Kuiper7986 on June 06, 2003, 07:34:23 am
Money should be hard to come by in this game. People should have to actually work to become wealthy and not just cheat around and get rich quick. Money should only come from selling items or doing quest. Only a few monsters should carry money. I have an idea about a \"monster species,\" that could help solve this problem.

Well, I think it should be hard to come by, but also extremly easy... So like a person would have enough to buy his meals for a week (getting that money easily) but to buy new armor, that would be mucho expensive, and require a higher form of money. So they wouldnt take 5000 pennies for a 50$ item, they\'d want $50 or @5. (@ being a form of currency in my example).

i just posted this in a nother thread so ill copy and paste - \'\'Ive got it, maybe the cities are offering money to kill monsters, so after killing so many u go and see some official bursar and he pays u, would that work?\'\'

I dispise having to stand and sell things, it bores the hell out of me, and also encourages people to go afk and crowd the server. I think a considerably larger amount should come from the quests though and agree with that.

Hmm, i like the idea of government officials giving you some kind of reward for killing monsters, but only if it can be integrated nicely in the storyline. Also, i don\'t think you should use this in every town in the PS world, would make things a bit boring after while.

The different kinds of money i don\'t get, in real life they have to except 5000 penny\'s right ? Ok, it\'s boooooring to count those little things, but it is money all the same. The basic idea i understand, so different kinds of money for different kinds of purposes. I still think it\'s easier to work with one kind of money, and have some subdivisions (like the tria thing etc...)

I also think it should be quite hard to get good equipment, so i have no problems with it being very expensive...

Kuiper, could you tell us something more about the monsters carrying money ? Would that be only humanoids ?

I totally agree with this.  Walking around with 1000\'s of platinum is just so...  lame, (for lack of a better word).

I think a system of copper, bronze, silver, gold, and platinum should be in place.  All on a 10-step system, ( 10 copper = 1 bronze, 10 bronze = 1 silver)

A typical meal would cost 3 copper.  A nice steak, potatoes and ale would cost maybe a bronze.

A standard dagger would be about 2 bronze and a copper.  A nice ornate one would run you about 8 bronze.  A ready-to-be enchanted one would be about 4 silver.  A minor enchanted one could cost you 3 gold.  A heavily enchanted one could cost you 9 gold.  A quested \'uber\' one would cost you like 5 plat.

Also, I really would like to see different areas of the world use different coins or possibly gem equivalents with a changing exchange rate.

I would like to see one area use gems that were cut into slips, (like oval coins).  I would also like to see another area use rare bone and rare wood shapes as currency.

Thanks!

Quite nothing actually so that isn\'t what should be discussed here. Just: how hard will it be to find, earn money, and what will you be able to do with it ?

I think there should just be a universal currency - eg. gold pieces/coins.

Those metals you are talking about should have to be mined or extracted from rocks etc. I mean honestly, one of the races is \'allergic\' to rare metals - how will they carry around silver, gold and platinum coins (mind you platinum coins might be SLIGHTLY TOO heavy)

Money shouldn\'t be too hard to come by though;)

I uhm *slightly* disagree fallenangel. Have you read the economoics topic yet ? I think it\'s pointless discussing things the devs already decided. The money is going to be as it is shown on the Planeshift Homepage - economy system (http://www.planeshift.it/setting_economy.html)

I think it should take a noob quite some time before he could buy his or her first equipment, but not too long, for that becomes a little frustrating, and will scare many, many players away.

Kuiper, could you tell us about your money-carrying species ? (cfr the humanoids i mentionned before...)

Thx
