I just finished downloading the PS source and art package and was trying to compile it on Mandrake Linux 9.0. I switched into the my_planeshift directory and ran the build.sh script. After compiling for a while, it exited without any errors. However, when I ran the make_distro.sh script, I received the following messages:
cp: cannot stat `cel/*.so\': No such file or directory
cp: cannot stat `planeshift/*so\': No such file or directory
cp: cannot stat `planeshift/psclient\': No such file or directory
cp: cannot stat `planeshift/pssetup\': No such file or directory
cp: cannot stat `planeshift/updater\': No such file or directory
I then ran the build.sh script again, just for the heck of it, and it didn\'t do much considering everything seems to already be compiled, but I did recieve the following message:
data/Jamfile: No such file or directory
plugins/cssaver/Jamfile: No such file or directory
apps/Jamfile: No such file or directory

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Also, in order to get the psclient binary file (not the script file) to compile successfully, after I\'m done running build.sh, I have to manually go into the planeshift directory and run configure then jam. Furthermore, when I try running psclient despite the errors about the skin files, I get the following message:
Warning: Failed to load `sndogg\'; use \'-verbose\' argument for details.
Warning: Failed to load `sndogg\'; use \'-verbose\' argument for details.
WARNING: could not load plugin \'crystalspace.sound.loader.ogg\'
Warning: Failed to load `aws\'; use \'-verbose\' argument for details.
Warning: Failed to load `aws\'; use \'-verbose\' argument for details.
WARNING: could not load plugin \'crystalspace.window.alternatemanager\'
I can understand the messages about aws not being present, considering that wouldn\'t have gotten built due to the missing skin files, but I don\'t understand why sndogg isn\'t built. I have the ogg librabry and development files installed, and during the configure process it shows them as being there and detected, so I wonder why it wouldn\'t compile the sndogg files.

I\'m sure someone here knows something about this.

What\'s the point of having a technical forum when people don\'t respond to technical posts.

I work for a magazine that, among other things, reviews and recommends up-and-coming MMORPG games, as well as the support and community that are building up around them. I realize that this is a work-in-progress version of Planeshift, but that is specifically what I review.
I\'m afraid that Planeshift is going to receive a very poor review and recommendation. I\'m going to recommend that people stay away from it for the time being. It\'s next to impossible to get running and the current client seems as though it can\'t handle its own load... there are many, many reports from people saying that it runs 5 to 10 fps on very high-end machines.
Furthermore, the community and technical support seems to be next to nonexistent. I eventually found a very hack-ish workaround to the situation I was seeing, but nevertheless, I would think there would be people that could help with a problem, especially when its suppose to compile on a Linux platform \"out of the box\" when used on a supported platform, which I was using (Mandrake).
I am going to be doing another review of Planeshift when it reaches the beta stage, but until then, my magazine grades from 1 to 10 and it will be receiving a 3.

Eh ?
So you are reviewing how many fps some pre-alpha software does ?
So you are reviewing how easy is to compile it ?
What is the point ?
Did you try to just run it under windows instead of compiling it under linux?
Would you grade some imaginary mmorpg that started being developed today zero points, because you can\'t run it at all ?

I\'m sorry that you feel this way. I know I personally spend a LOT of time helping out people but I simply cannot help every single person that has a problem because I just don\'t know what is wrong. If you come to the irc channel there are usually many people that can at least offer suggestions. I\'ve tried to come up with some build instructions that you can find here www16.brinkster.com/acraig/planeshift/buildmb.html.

This would be compared to what? What other open, free, opensource, community driven, spare time, commited, hard working, team focused MMORPG games with more then 40,000 accounts will you also be reviewing?

As a fellow developer with acraig, let me express my appreciation for your generous award of a \"3\" to our little project. I am sure I speak for all of us when I say that for us to even be included in a magazine as important as yours, no doubt, is, is an amazing accomplishment for our team.
Please do come back and try the software again in 2 or 3 more years when the feature complete beta is released.
Your honored servant,
Vengeance
