It would be great if you could change your facial appearance.
Like the option you chose when you create a new character: colour of your hair, the way it looks, kind of mustache/beard/etc.
Because over time, you might want to change it.
For example because a char get older, the colour of the hair changes?
Of because you have an RP reason why you lost your beard?
My proposal would be to use the same predefined options when you create a character.

If it was simple, GMs could already do more than change only the color and style of the head hair...
-
/me would totally have an Ylian char with a Dali-esque 'stache

GMs have the ability to adjust all the options available in character creation already. I think there has been a tattoo artist who came to hydlaa in a event once or twice.

It is great that GMs can change those things, but it would be nicer if players could change those things themselves.
Either by settings they can change or by visiting an NPC like a barber and pay something for it??
I just don't want to bother GMs for such simple things ...

It is certainly not wrong that characters should not keep changing their appearance too often. A specific look helps recognizing possibly known characters from a distance greater than the label display range.
But while GMs are so few, events to adapt your looks will almost certainly be missed by some who were interested in it...

Simple solution: make it a repeatable quest with a long cooldown time.

That would require a user interface which is able to represent the available changes in relation to the race. And if you play a race which has no according traits to be changed, you did the quest for nothing.

If you really want to go this route, then why not make it possible to make these changes via the character creation interface before logging in? Just mask off what you can and cannot change on *existing* characters. ie. Disallow changes in race, name, gender and family history and other things that are not or should not be alterable. Leave open the options to change hair and possibly face.
As I type this, I see this is quite a bit of effort just to make it possible to get a lousy haircut xD

In Perfect World International there's a makeover scroll you can give to the cosmetic master to change your appearance in game.
