Hi everyone! Im a longtime Mmorpg & MUD follower (I do a lot with the Opensim project, look at https://opensimcity.org) and i have just discovered PlaneShift. Im creating a website to talk about the experiences i have in getting it up and running, and id like to invite everyone to stop by! I have a nice community for PlaneShift fans and i think it would be a good complement to the more "official" websites.
Hope to see you there!

Good luck with your enthusiastic project.
Please note that the game engine may be Open Source; but the game content (including the welcome screen art) is copyrighted. You may run an own game server based on the PlaneShift engine, but not containing PlaneShift resources (it would have to be "another game").

Oh no, i thought it was creative commons licensed 😥 this could put a crimp in my plans, or is there a way to get an OK on using the assets in my project? I was looking at ryzom before, which is CC licensed, so i would hate to have to go back to it, i like planeshift better...

Whats strange about that is nobody told me about that - and in fact the instructions tell you how to get either the svn or full client assets. Why do that if you cant use them in free projects? Im hoping i can get permission, as ryzom is much more cumbersome... 😥

It's a little hidden on the main page, but you can read the licence here:

There are lots of houses in the various grids I've tried that look like the Hydlaa ones - and many of those are free. It wouldn't be too difficult to imitate the game's art without directly copying it. In fact I even found one place in Second Life with ultics around - not the ones you find in-game, they looked like they were probably a higher-poly original design.

Hmm, looks like i cant use the planeshift software after all :(

Hi! You can use the software but not its art package so you need to develop your own art. I know one project is working to develop a private server creating their own art. So if you just plan to create your own game world using the art package sorry but it's not possible legally speaking.
The instruction on how to build the client and server software (both free) and use the released art are meant for people willing to build PS for development purpose (coding) or any players willing to do their own daily builds without waiting for the official package release.
