Title: daemons
Post by: bilbous on March 25, 2014, 12:45:29 am
I'll just put this here (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daemon_(computer_software)) because I didn't want to spam that nice rp thread. I would like to think that pslaunch is a daemon as it launches the client and waits for the client to quit but I really do not believe it works that way. As you can see from the wiki page there are plenty of daemons that exist in the world today. Some are frustrating, some are helpful, all do something even if it is only to waste cycles.

One of the things I love about demons in fiction is how they seem to symbolize fear, hateful passion, and those darker facets of humanity. Is seems that these terribly taboo traits are explored and appreciated by painting them onto some rotten creature so that we can safely appreciate them and detest them at the same time. At least, that's how I see it.

I have to give the christians some credit for their masterful creation of the infernal.

One of the thinks I always enjoyed about the metaphysical constructs such things is that while they embody these emotions and rightly so gravitate to evil and the like, I always liked the idea of good deamons. Ones that used theys powers advancing positive causes and most of the time getting crushed by superior numbers and prejudices by just being their kind.

Laughter kills fear, and without fear there can be no faith because without fear of the Devil, there is no more need of God.

He rather liked people. It was a major failing in a demon.
Oh, he did his best to make their short lives miserable, because that was his job, but nothing he could think up was half as bad as the stuff they thought up themselves. They seemed to have a talent for it. It was built into the design, somehow. They were born into a world that was against them in a thousand little ways, and then devoted most of their energies to making it worse.

I see Planeshift as more of a gremlin.
