Title: Brightness issues
Post by: bond304 on May 02, 2014, 09:11:08 pm
I'd like to first mention that, after 7 years, I am rather disappointed in the lack of improvement on the general "polishedness" of the game.

That said, I want to point out a specific issue I am having at night time with certain things being pitch black regardless if the moonlight / gamma correction. I would post a screenie, but printscreen seems to only generate solid black images.

This seems to be a bug that occurs after running for a few hours, and happens in conjunction with the DR being plastered with the wrong texture.

Try the command /screenshot nogui lossless to get a PNG, then try to raise its gamma level before converting it to a JPG and uploading it.

It is a long known issue that the in-game brightness correction only changes the power of the "Crystal" light source, but that doesn't help where the Crystal doesn't shine. So, better use a tool which helps you changing your graphic driver's Gamma level while you are playing PlaneShift.

But if you get a really pitch-black screen, there is possibly a different reason...

Only the screenshot is completely black. In game everything looks fine but a few buildings end up completely black (and brightening does nothing). I'll get a screenie when I play more once I fix being stuck in first person.

Are you playing with shaders set to low and having problems with places like the passage from Hydlaa to the Arena?  If so, try setting your shaders to lowest or medium.  The low setting seems to cause problems where there is no illumination from the Crystal as LigH describes.

Have you tried using the 'm' key or the mouse scroll wheel to get out of first person?
