Last night I returned to Planeshift after nearly 2 years of being away, and I was met by an odd sight immediately upon my arrival into Hydlaa: A trepor warrior walking around who greeted me!
I was later told it was a bug to which I say folly! It is not a bug! It is Frank (as I was later told he is nicknamed) The Civilized Trepor. Clearly not all monsters like the life style of grind-fodder for adventurers with the high likely hood their meal will either flee or kill them.
Thus, I believe Frank has decided to no longer be a savage beast and learn of the ways of the world to become civilized and a productive member of society.
Here is my interpretation (poorly photoshopped) of what he would look like if we allowed him to be part of society (http://i59.tinypic.com/30dgqqo.png)

Beautiful!
Indeed, Trepors are rather civilized in general, not as hostile as they used to be under the influence of the Dark Crystal Eclipse. You will meet many more Trepors outside, greeting and acting social, and looking for resources to survive. One of them passing Hydlaa sometimes is now a common sight. And Trepors are not the only creatures you may be surprised of. You will get to learn the difference between Eagle and Serpent Gobbles around the Carp Pond near the Gugrontid passage.
This Settings tuning was possible after implementing a more complex Tribe code.

Trepor kissers! ;D
-
Sacrificial ham is what they are!
-
I would love for these to be made into actual NPCs with a quest chain to learn their language to then do quests for them in an attempt to get "Monster equality" and "monster rights"
-
I now feel horribly guilty for the number of times I have killed Frank.
Yes to the NPC idea, first because it's great, second because I could apologize to him.
-
I sit around and talk to gobbles, but they hide all their females!
-
How classy! :sorcerer:
-
I noticed that often while you are killing a trepor his/her buddies come up to you and... keep greeting you... In some ways it's kinda funny but this also might be a bit weird.....

They are casting an ancient Trepor Curse upon you in the hopes that the great Trepor from the depths will rise and devour you over and over again never allowing you to go without pain
-
Well, try that e.g. with the Trepor Queen at the Hermit Hills, below Shindrok's Crater. I believe this tribe is a little more complex, so attacking the queen should not be ignored by the rest.
-
Too funny!! \\o//
:sorcerer:

I had much fun reading about Frank!!! ;D \\o//

I am glad you enjoyed! Hopefully one day he can become a fully fledged member of society!
-
Can't help it.... i think "hi Frank" each time i meet "him" now... well done ;D
-
You're not the only one. I almost type it in main chat!
-

I hope so too.... He and (maybe) his wife Fanny could be located on the plaza and sell items like wiggly feelers and skins so you don't have to kill trepors anymore to get them :D
-
but.... that's like if I were selling livers and kidneys... Unless those parts grew back but it'd still be painful especially feelers...
-
:o You per... you remind me on the Restaurant at the End of the Universe serving the animal that wants to be eaten and offers its own body parts.
:'( Or the usual butcher's shop window ads with pigs in aprons offering sliced ham.

...... I boast of my psychotic tendencies whilst gaming... and I have no idea what kind of back alley website you've been frequenting *backs away slowly whilst using his keyboard as a makeshift shield*

I referred to Licina.
And you ... you ... don't even understand H2G2? ::|

I dunno what that is

I don't know about Trepors that much, but assumed every now and then a trepor loses its feelers, like a deer loses his antlers (I believe in winter or so?)... And Frank could collect them and sell those. Same thing for skins, like snakes who also lose their skin (I don't know how it's called in english..). So it wouldn't be painful or anything...
-
Fair enough and snake skin thing is called shedding

@ Nawa:
H2G2 = "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy", a trilogy (in 5 books) by Douglas Noel Adams (DNA) about different meanings of life, depending on different points of views in galactical context, and resulting confusions. Ignore the recent movie, read the books: The movie does not even contain 10% of the cult. And when you are done, also read the "biography" (or bibliography?) by Neil Gayman: "No Panic!"
Yes, I am an oldbie, I used to read books, printed ink on paper. :-[
Spoiler:
The Answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything ... is ... 42.
So, what is the question?
-
Shouldn't you listen to the radio show that predates the books first? You can probably find it in the bbc archives.
-
paper books are the only books worth reading. It simply isn't the same without all the sensations
-
Brilliant story.. and the answer definitely pushes it beyond brilliant
-
I also recently returned to the game after several years' absence, and I'm not even going to lie: I don't care if Frank is a bug, I don't want them to ever ever fix that bug. Ever.
I don't know what genius had the bright idea to have some of the mobs greet you, but I seriously start laughing every time I get greeted by one of those hideous friendly babies, especially if it's in the city. So ugly! So neighborly! It's like the trepors are on a species-wide charm campaign, and it's totally working, because I kind of don't even want to kill them anymore.
-
Welcome, Llyr. And it is not a bug, it is Settings.
And compared to the denial of cardinal directions (see the invention of East Stronghand), it may even make some sense.
-
It's a bug.
-
trepors are indeed bug-like however jauntily attired they may be.
-
No, I mean it's a bug.
-
We can't really be sure. I'd still classify it as a monster.
