It's (almost) an emotional experience to go through my private messages and read my history/footprint on people. I'm curious to know if some of you guys out there are sharing this feeling from retracing some of the messages that people have directed solely toward you.
My very first PM is of an angry tone and sent by Izzabella, discussing a matter where I humiliated some of her guildmates from the Outlaws in public as a reaction to earlier behavior of theirs. Obviously, she didn't like me. Heck, I wouldn't have liked me. As I keep reading through my PMs and traveling further into the future, I see more PMs from her telling me that she "values my opinion" and was generally saying she missed me. This struck a chord in me: I built relations with people in this community that I had forgotten I'd even built, both good and bad, and many of those grew. I've been having horrible memory lapses lately, and these are really opening up huge chunks of time spent simply conversing with others who are no longer around, but that I wish I could talk to again, just because those relationships were there at one point.
Anyway, to make it a thread... am I the only one who can trace history in such a way? My PMs actually tell a story, and it's really fascinating to me.

I never kept the ones I sent. may have wipe them once or twice.
The first one I have is titled funny and contains a dead youtube link that neko sent me in 2008.there were a few from TomT trying to recruit me, another dead link from neko. More concerning forum or bug reports. A few trying to recruit me for various role play events. I should probably check prolix as there was a period after my forum war with zanzibar that I changed nicks.

I don't know I always hated the player market as being excessively greedy. It might have been that, or something else completely forgotten.

My first few PMs: Jjairr asking urgently to meet Gag ... and changing her mind; zorbels and Lolitra about roleplaying; Nilrem Driehl with a bit depressed philosophy; Karyuu asking for a GM nomination (in 2006 already); Cherppow with art stuff; and Inca Sator about a pencil draft of a Rivnak (before implementation) I drew in the middle of the night. Looks pretty different today. But might still work as something else?

it took me a long time before realizing my sent messages were not being saved. the first thing in my inbox was regarding a sermon ara once gave, followed by a discussion from tessra about some delicate OOC/IC misunderstanding situation that I can't clearly remember. most everything else seems positive and RP centered.

I'm with you Suno. My first couple pages seems mostly to be a discussion with karyuu about making game models which did actually lead to some of them getting in game. Somewhere in here there's a discussion with Dajoji about dealing with a player in game that absolutely insisted on doing a rape RP with her own characters and another character and I *HAD* to respond to her to keep from make a larger scene in main.
There's PMs from a lot of players I miss seeing around but a few of which I sometimes see drift through here. Several PMs of arguments or colluding to RP. But funnily enough I think my best stuff for history and memories are probably in the logs I've lost. I spent more of the time chattering/complaining/goofing off with peoples in tells in game. Gosh I wish PS had a log repository so you could recover lost logs. My past computers have eaten a lot of good stuff. :(

It was about whether the changes made by breeders count as "evolution" because there's no "natural selection" occurring, I honestly don't remember the details because my inbox doesn't save sent mail.
Anyway we all got threatened by lilura that if we argued about it on a public forum we'd be banned, so we probably shouldn't get into it... :-X

Damn it guys, I have a paper I have to write by tomorrow and I've just wasted the last hour reading our old debates about metaphysical gods, determinism, our very limited understanding of quantum mechanics...

Never read long threads on this forum if you need to do something. ;) You will invariable lose time... unless it's the birthday thread. You can probably read that one without losing the whole day.

Nah, I was actually thinking something more along the lines of whether or not eugenics could and should be utilized and what the moral/ethical implications might be.

Ya, there was originally a different forum software, I believe, just like there was originally a different bug tracker. The domain also changed.

Come to think of it, I don't. Yeah, I remember when they migrated the forums over here (hence many old posts having /s through random areas of punctuation). That must've wiped out a good chunk of stuff. Never really thought of that; maybe I wasn't doing spring cleaning.

Ah, dangerous thing to dwell on the past. Probably even more dangerous catching oneself doing it then trying to analyze it, I'll take a rain check on this one ;)

I don't either... they did change the forums around then (http://www.hydlaaplaza.com/smf/index.php?topic=23181.0) because the previous host shamelessly abandoned us, and I believe the PM's were wiped out - as were the in-game PS characters now and then *shudders*. You can also see that if you look at people's post history, the old ones are a bit funny, they contain escaped character and for my part I can't seem able to see the thread they were posted in. But at least they were imported, it would have been sad to lose this part of, erm, brilliant history.

Lucky you, you didn't have to go through the traumatizing experience of waking up to a deserted forum website :D Others were not so lucky, we certainly lost a whole flock of fans that day! To think they probably went over to Planescape YouShallNotUtterThatNameHere game or another forsaken place...

Wasn't the old forum a different color scheme as well? Something with blue, I think, I read. Ah, but there is the real forum gold though, the actual threads. Maybe someone will making a thread about remember your old forums posts. XD Most of mine are there and mostly harmless. Shame though, some were deleted. :whistling: :innocent:
I do wish though that in my earlier days of RPing I had posted more to the forums about it as now most of my good logs are lost to the sands of time. :'(

You're right, there were in blue tones, more appropriate IMHO. Let's have a quick look at those fond memories with ze ultimate weapon - the WayBack Machine!! So evil, so evil... the main boards (http://web.archive.org/web/20040419010501/http://www.planeshift3d.com/wbboard/main.php), and the main site (http://web.archive.org/web/20040612083840/http://www.planeshift.it/main_01.html) (it might take a while to show up from the depths of the past, so be patient young padawan). It's even possible to get back to the very early sites, Kada's tavern, and yet older forums (for ex. by following the "older news"), with this scarry and devious weapon, but yeah, let's leave the past where it belongs :)

There's been too many forum hosts and whatnot for any of my oldest to survive, but the earliest I still have dates back to 2006, about 3 years into my time here. It was from a user named Venae Rell, asking something about the Enkidukai language. I apparently responded with some useful lore information, but the sent message wasn't preserved.
Then a few days later, a message from ThomPhoenix thanking me for joining some contest? xP Who knows, it's all lost to the mists of time.

However, I know that I wish that I had had a better habit of saving my responses as sometimes I have no idea what I said and the post sent in response has no clues whatsoever.

I usually just forget, when the forum doesn't automatically tick the option "save a copy of this to your Sent Box". I end up sending the mail and not having a copy saved. :(
Also, yeah... incoming oldbie wave! I seem to have that effect around here! Hehe
I'm thinking of hopping ingame and checking out the new stuff. I haven't played since the very first combat was added. It looks... intimidating...

There's a lot of new things now so it's not just combat. Not as many skills are waiting to be implemented SoonTM. Mind you that might mean there will be a wave of oldbies in game too. Which is a good thing. ;)

Yeah, 2006 for SMF forum PMs.
Pre 2006 I'm quite sure it was mostly complaints about Moogie's moderation.

All my PM's on my Odessa Wildfire forum account (long deactivated) prior 2nd January, 2007 were lost due to a shameful rage quit for reasons best left consigned to the void.
Although, I seem to recall one PM from... (quickly looks up name having forgotten :-[ ) Rilar regarding an event that was to take place with Embers Wildfire and goons attacking Hydlaa. That was some time around late November 2006.
My only PM on this account was a response from Zorbels 03 April, 2012 to a query regarding lost logs of our short but intense RP's.
