Title: Hello\Introduction
Post by: tim31 on January 27, 2015, 05:45:53 pm
Hello everyone
I'm tim31.  I'm new here.  Sorry if I am posting this in the wrong place.  If there is a better place to post this, please let me know.
I have just finished the tutorial in PlaneShift.  My character's name is Irego Laquy.  I can't tell you much about him because I don't know very much about him myself.  If you see him ingame, feel free to say hello in ICC or OOC.  I might not be ingame all the time, but I will try to be ingame when I am able to be.
I don't talk very much.  I have always been this way.  It makes it hard to be the character in a roleplay.  If anyone can help me with this let me know.
Thanks

Hello tim31! As my forum name implies, my character's name is Demagul. I'l keep an eye out for Irego in game, and if our time zones allow, I can't wait to meet him IC! I live in the US East timezone, and I'm usually online towards the end of the day. I'll add you to my buddy list in the game.  :)

And don't worry about not having a talkative character. Sometimes a quiet listener kind of character is perfect for finding yourself in some interesting RP. :D

Welcome tim31/Irego !

First step of roleplaying : Create a story and a personnality for your character. His objectives and motives. You don't have to do this quickly, you'll do that while playing. You'll learn from others.
You'll see it's fun !
Enjoy !

EDIT : My character is Jilerel.

Thanks for the friendly welcome
I also live in the US East timezone.  Most of the time I'm online at night, but will sometimes be online during the day.  I'm usually online on Steam and Google Talk during the day too.
I will try to create the story and personality for the character, but it might take a while for me to do that.  It might also take a while for me to speak IC. That is usually because it takes me a few minutes to think of something to say.
Irego and I look forward to meeting you in the game

You may really enjoy rp and don't worry about a fast response when ic. We have many players for whom English is a little hard and take some time to respond, also.

Welcome to planeshift Tim31,

Take your time and figure out what you enjoy.

If you are interested in role play, but don't like to talk, its also possible to play a mute character. There was a player who did this a while back and simply emoted hand gestures and bodily movements rather than engaging in dialogue directly... just a thought.

Hello Tim31,

Welcome and don't worry, take your time and don't feel like you have to jump right in, read everything you can IG, this helps formulating character and backstory, easiest way to get involved is just say you are new in town. If you ever need any help with mechanics or role play Daughters of Xiosia are always kind  to new players. Watch out for Rigwyn he bites. :P (but only IC'ly)

Thanks for the help everyone :)
I will try to be ingame soon.  It will take a few times of trying before I can rp better.

One point I have to agree with, tim31: Listening to others is a good way to learn.

Maybe start with a little interaction before joining a chat by casually describing your activities in an emote ("/me ...", "/my ..." and a few more, look in the "Help" dialog for "/emote" descriptions or just type"/emote" and get a brief syntax example; most emotes still have shortcuts, like "/emote greet" = "/greet"). You may get different results whether you have a character in target or nothing (left-click on the ground, or "/target clear", I believe...).

Also, don't be afraid to ask for help. Role playing is not intuitive to everyone. Oronec and other members here were kind enough to pass the torch so to speak, and teach me how to role play. It took time for their lessons to really sink in.

Welcome to PS, Tim!  :)

I'll be looking for you on my characters!  I'm a US-East nightowl, myself.  I'm only recently returned to PS after an involuntary hiatus, but please consider me one of those willing to help you get acquainted and feel comfortable with our unique little world.  <3

Welcome in Planeshift Tim !

Count in the GMs as well to be at your disposal if you are in need of help  :D
(asking players first is better and more fun thought!)

Thanks :)
I will look at the emotes.  I think I will use "/me..." a lot.  Maybe something like "/me arrives in..."
I hope you don't mind me asking a lot of questions when I need help with something.
Thanks for all of the help :)
I look forward to meeting all of you ingame

The more that you use "/me..." the better!   \\o//

You'll find that the PS community is hit and miss with whether they reveal spoilers and to what degree.  But there are always plenty of hints!   :woot:

There's also /my for the adventurous!

/me writes something down.
Rigwyn writes something down.

/my beard is home to little animals.
Rigwyn's beard is home to little animals.

/mypet once lived in Rigwyn's beard before it escaped.

That may work once you got a pet familiar. A mage in a forest outside Hydlaa may be able to help you obtain one...

Two bits of advice:

Don't ever be afraid to go up to anyone

Don't ever be afraid to start anything. Even if it's crazy. Or weird. Or different.

That is all.

If I tried to start something, it might not make much sense.

Tim31 I feel for you, trying to get your machines operational.
If you want, you could start a role play as a story in the
In-Game Roleplay Events  section... you could simply start a short paragraph or three like a first person diary "Your character's name arrived in Hydlaa today. Everything is so strange and new, not like his/her/kra's home..." something like that, then say a few things about what you do know aboutyour character, and what you're creating for your backstory.  It might get you along with your character development even during this time you're still trying to actually get in game.

Do some quick reading on the website, about history and characters then you'll have a good sense where your character might have started from.  For example, Dermorians, like my character, all came to the Dome after Talad and Laanx created the kran and lemur races... nolthrir come from the lower levels of the dome, are water/ land elf type creatures... read the races over, make a decision, then create your story!

And ASK for help from the GMs and the developers in the IRC channel #PS- gmtalk I think it is. There is a link on the website.

Good luck! Don't give up!

I have not had many problems with my machine.  I have not been able to be ingame because my Mom has been sick and is in the hospital now.  I'm usually at the hospital for most of the day.

I will read about the characters and the history and I will try to start a roleplay if I can get enough about my character.

I installed an IRC client on my phone.  I might connect while I am at the hospital tomorrow.

Best wishes, may she get well soon. It's harder to enjoy a game while you have sorrows.

Thanks   My Mom is feeling a little bit better today.  I'm not sure when she will be coming home, but when she does I might be able meet everyone ingame.

I will look for Demagul too when I am finally able to be ingame.  My Mom is still in the hospital so I have no idea when I will be able to be ingame, but I will try to be on IRC when I can.  I can at least chat with everyone that way.

My Mom is home from the hospital.  She came home a few hours ago.  I will try to be ingame soon.  If I am not able to be ingame, then I will try to connect to IRC.  If I am ingame I might have to step away to help my Mom, since she is still a little bit weak and has to have some help walking so she doesn't fall.

Sorry I have not been in-game yet.  We had to put my Mom in hospice on Tuesday because she was weak.  She was quickly getting weaker.  We went to check on her, and she was still breathing, but was unresponsive.  At 12:32am Wednesday morning she passed away. She had cancer.  I'm not sure how I will do during the viewing or the funeral.
I have no idea when I will be in-game.

I am very sorry about your loss. Both my parents have been struggling with cancer, and are doing fine now, but you never know...
Take your time, come to the game whenever you are ready for it.
Playing might even help you NOT to think of all this for a while. Consider putting a message in your OOC description, so people will understand better that your mind may not always be on the game.

I can partially feel with you - remembering the time when Lolitra disappeared.

Take your time to grieve. You will be welcome back when you came to terms with your loss.

Welcome to PS, this is a fun game to play especially if you like crafting to be an important part of the game, lots of quests to run, fun guilds to join and a unique setting to adventure in.

I would advise learning about guilds and find one that you like, it helps the game experience.

Best of luck and see you around.

I hope the best for you and your family in this trying time.  It is hard to lose a parent.

My dad passed last August, massive brain stroke and I had to make the call.  It was horrible, but he did not want to live that way.

My family, friends and PS friends helped me through it.  We can be a very compassionate group here.

When you are ready comeback and kill some clackers or one eyed rats, that can be good therapy.  Helps me at times.

Take care, keep yourself healthy (your family needs you) and hope to see you soon.

My best wishes to you and your family.
When you're feeling well enough to get IG, keep an eye out for Meavay. I'm usually on around, but slightly earlier, sometimes, than Demagul. But all the same, I'm there. Looking forward to meeting you IG.

I concur with Duec2, PS can be of assistance when you need a bit of relief from the harshness of life. Being another character for an hour or two in a RPG may help.
My condolences, stay focused, we'll be here.

Thank you everyone  Your messages help me a lot.
My Dad, my brothers and I were around her when she took her last breath.  She wanted to be at home when it happened and she was.
I will try to be in game soon.
