Ok with all this talk about houses a few things i was thinking was will there be rent on these. Will this be on the size of the house and how much space they take up.
If you can\'t pay the rent will you get kicked out.
Just a few thoughts on that.
Which brings me to guild houses as there seem to be alot of guilds forming, will guilds be able to have there own coat of arms or say a flag so people will be able to tell what guild house is there as i guess most house will look the same.
Of course this would say cost in game cash or maybe a real cash payment to ps to apply to the building, or have say 20 designs already done which you could buy when you form a guild and rent a house for your guild.
With guild house they should be bigger and all members should have there own rooms in that building the more members the less rent that each member would have to pay also.
Also i think that it should be quite a high price or we would be overrun with guilds or clans and would also help with scammers.
One more thing was for the sake of space saving you make all house the same size on the out side but do a DR WHO type thing as when you go in side its bigger.

I thing guild houses are a good idea since i do have a guild of my own which i am recruiting members :D
-
What would be neat is if the guild halls started off small, but was sort of an expandable building, with each expansion performing a function i.e. post office, job board, armory, treasury, locker, training rooms, defense rooms (you know, a room just after the door, with spots for archers behind the walls, and reinforced doors and walls. perhaps a sort of cone, or triangle shape, narrow at the entrance, large on the defending half) etc.
Guild halls, and personal houses should be destructable! :))
-
great idea :) and the guild houses can be used when the guild has a meeting or something :D
-
Oh, yah, that too. :P
-
It mentions in the Info page that \'You can own your own House or Castle.\' What would lessen the number of guild houses is to have to hire REAL people or NPCs to build each seperate bit of the house and ALSO buy all of the stone, wood, fabric and other materials used! It would take ages for it to be built, therefore limiting the number of Guild houses!
-
But that would be a good thing as it would get people to work together and roll play a bit more. Plus that it would show that there guild has worked hard for it.

Plus, some really fascinating social situations would arise, like the Craftsmen guild (you know, miners, smiths, carpenters, masons) would be pretty much in good graces with the other guilds, simply because no-one would want to lose access to the ability to improve/repair there guild. Losing the ability to buy the best weapons and armor would be severe. At the same time, a warrior or thief guild could cripple there operations. Yes, this could be very interesting. 8)

8o :D
cool idea
steal a guild house when i guild house is not heavily guarded U can storm in and kill everybody and then U would own there guild house treasers and everything. kinda harsh for the losin guild.
maybe make a spell to guard you guild house. so that only members could enter. or make a moat and a bridge. this way U would get sieges!
-
i think i would just lock my door. and get that thing uhh....the door club or whatever it is.NOone gets in MY house. unless of course....u in teh guild. :D
-
yeah and then i would take a big axe and chop your door to suey (lol chop suey) or cast a big fireball and burn your door down or even your house! don\'t take it personaly btw
-
That would really suck if someone were to take urs. I think there should be some kind of insurance for those.
-
But think how much fun it would be to take someone\'s guild building. Guild would have to have accounts in local banks so they could build another or fund an attack to retake their guildhouse. I really think that living with the consequences of being able to actually have your guild take damage would be very cool. Another cool thing would be if one could carve rooms into the surrounding rock of the cavern, so say, the miners guild would have no problem making a new guild house, other than time.
-
Maybe say if the guild house rent wasnt paid for say 1 month then either it went back as property of the bank or it just went up for sale to the highest bidder.

Would that be with taking someones or not? because I think ud be paying to have it, and if u took someones over than they would stop paying for it and the people who conquered it would be kicked out and it would go to the bank.

i like your style.....but ur a bit too flamboyant...it will be best for us \'bad guys\' to more blend in with the crowd then we just suprise em after we get settled in..in game. :D soo calm down...we need only a small cave to get to gether and meet every so often..once we emerge we take over each level at a time!!!! MUAHAHAHAH
-
I can just imagine.... \"Get off of mah property or Iu\'ll get ya wit\' mah Shotgun\" that would be great...

(OOC: I just have to point this out cause I saw it while watching my son watch cartoons. He is 7 years old mind you. He was watching this show on Cartoon Network called The Power Puff Girls. In it was this big fuzzy pink character that went around yelling \"Stay of uh my property!\" and then would shoot his shotgun at anyone near. So I take it that is where Woob got that from.)

I wouldnt want say a castle,However a nice tower with a view. Not to drafty my family likes to visit and some are elders(could catch cold)

This is a while back but....
Plus, some really fascinating social situations would arise, like the Craftsmen guild (you know, miners, smiths, carpenters, masons) would be pretty much in good graces with the other guilds, simply because no-one would want to lose access to the ability to improve/repair there guild. If that were true Montenegro wouldn\'t the craftsmen guild be all too powerful? Couldn\'t they just control about the entire game? ;)
-
To some extent that would be true. A guild who really did want to take them out wouldn\'t have a problem. There will still be unaligned artisans, and any smart guild will have a few of its own. Plus, if this were the case, guilds will maintain armories as well. I expect more than one craft guild, so I imagine one might even pay a militaristic guild to raze the other and eliminate some competition. A craft guild will never have military of magic prowess to match the others. Instead, it will have economic power. If you want to deny them economic power, I insist you deny mages magic power and warriors physical power. That way, everyone can be a dull grey sludgy existence, where everything is equal.
In a side note: I am pretty certain trade guilds were often quite powerful in reality. Probably the origins of Oligarchies.
Personally, I favor the try it out approach. If we check this out in Alpha or Beta, then we can have everything working well by release. With totally open testing like they plan, along with the extended schedule, this should be a possibility. I prefer to try something unusual and new than something tried over and over again. I have to say that the trade skills in Eq (dunno bout the rest, sorry, this is just my exp. btw) were largely not fun, for one reason or another. A big portion was that with smithing in particular, there was no way to make money with it before level 16 at minimum, which is when you can reliably produce banded armor. Breaking the trade skills is not the answer here. Model them acurately, and the society will duplicate medieval society, to some extent. A large factor ** I think this is the most important, ignore the rest if you must ** will be weather or not people frequent the cities. There is quite literally nothing to draw one to a city in Eq, beyond resupply, spells, and training. If you go to the roleplay server, you will see that there are hundreds (a guess) online at any moment, but they are not in the cities beyond 1% at most. I tried to buy a bind in Qeynos (the central large city on the left of the map) for about 30 minutes, offering 10 pp (alot on the roleplay server, with its crippled economy) and got no answer. Why? Because only about 8 people wandered through the city in that time. And most of those were just passing through to get to an island by boat.
If they can just lay the city out with sufficient distinctness of its parts, so its not a warren, make the roads large enough not to clog, make them straight enough not to frustrate, and make there a point to being there beyond the aforementioned, then the game will surely be a success and its denizens happy. One last thing: the roleplay server\'s economy was crippled in large part by a restriction of one character per player on that particular server. Hense, a normal 1500 + player server would have 4-8 times that in characters, and people would often create new ones. This created a need for lower level items. People are usually more willing to delete a secondary or tertiary character than a primary, so almost no-one ever deletes a characer from the roleplay server. Those who do have friends keep the equipment and money until they recreate and hand it back. This is a closed loop economy. Once every player gets banded armor, no more market will exist. Thats why I bought a forged bastard sword for 1/6 the price on a normal server.
Well, that was enough of a rant. ;)
At der Wolfmann\'s suggestion:

i was about to read ur post.....but i gave up after To some extent that would be true.
lazy and \'bad\'

Your post was very good and interesting Montenegro and I would say that if the planeshift crew could make a world of that calibre we could be wery happy (at least if we want an Role Playing Game, which planeshift will be).
And more than one craftsmen guild could be created, giving competition and lowering prizes and if a guild gets banned by all guilds, one guild may ecretly fund them with materials and worker for a \"special\" prize (=multiply with x), and guilds that helped a craftsmen guild (either with soldiers, money or magicks) could get a discount meaning that they can expand their castle faster and cheaper.
Then we of course need a siege engines guild to equip us with trebutchets, rams, catapults and manongels.
And supply the defenders with tar, oils, spear throwers, piggyback, spike traps and other devices.
Nice to have you back Wolfman, missed you my enemy.
-
why keep the craftsman guild your friend??
i would just say build my house or I will chop U to suey this way U get a nice discount too ... MAN I\'M SMART!!! and evil too!!!! together with wolfie :EVIL and DUMB the perfect combination :P we kinda balance eachother
-
....and they\'d build your house as one giant trap, so that the 7th time you opened your door, it would explode like a small nuke.... :) wouldn\'t that be funny? I could keep ninkwi\'s skull on the end of a stick to whack people who spout garbage all the time.
-
heh a one large trap.... Im getting off subject
Montenegro you have a very large point there, but since there will be no \"mining\" so to say how the heck is this gonna work out?
-
no mining, no smithing, means no carpentry, no builders either. No trade guilds. Dead dead dead dead dead dead dead dead dead dead dead dead dead dead dead dead dead dead dead dead dead dead dead dead dead. So this whole freakin\' thread is nixed. Isn\'t food a created item? So no farming either then. Still, better to not have it then have a half-assed version (pardon my french, though that was distinctly English.... hmmm). On the bright side, in another ten years or so, MMORPGS will probably be the dominant game on the market, and some of them will probably have the trade skills. Course, if I were corsairk, I would be cursing that I ever posted that can of worms. I mean, this stuff could all be untrue as well. Dunno. Maybe demo 3 (alpha 1????) will have some stuff about the skills used, who knows? But I bet thats a few years away anyway. Hehe, crystal space will be different by then! I wonder how they plan on working that, what with implementation of stuff changing and hardware changing so quickly. Betcha no one uses 32 bit apps in ten years. I may need to hang onto a copy of windows XP just to play this game when it comes out.... j/k sort of  . Sorry dev guys, but I just finally fully determined a game I was lookin forward to bit the big one. Along with Horizons. Hmmm, every game I really follow closely dies....could this be some sorta weird curse? You know, alot of stuff breaks or falls apart or simply doesn\'t function when I\'m anywhere near....spooky. Except computers. They know to behave.
-
There wont be guild houses in the first demo, but its very likely it will be included later. I dont know why you are saying that Montenegro, but there has been nothing said about no smithing, cerpentry, or building. Trading will very much be an active and interesting part of this game. However, its unlikely mining will be part of this game because we do not want any boring or repetitive jobs that may detract from roleplay. Again, let me repeat, I personally am not the one saying this, I just heard that information from the project leader, Luca, and I already am sorry I \"posted that can of worms\". I didnt imagine the possible effect it would have, especailly since a large part of our fan base are ex-runescape players. I would like to appologise personally for anything I have said that may suggest that.
If other people are wondering what this is about, I posted before that mining may not be part of this game, and some people do not like this. I would now like to withdraw that statement. For your last statement montenegro, However technology changes within the next ten years, we are sure that the crystal space engine will adapt.
-
Windows XP?! AWW HELL NO... I seen better OS on 1987 comps. my friend has it and it crashes like a.... well ill let your imagination talk
-
Sorry Corsairk. Just was a little depressed I guess. Don\'t take the post too seriously. I made some other, better posts in the other threads. They make more sense. Yes, go read those instead. 8)

\"Dont let your anger control you, it will blind you and kill you.\"
-
Why not have a small guild fort outside a city? That way you could have all sorts of seperate buildings all owned by people in that guild. It would also make it harde to take the guild hall as it would be protected by castle like defences.
-
it looks alot like that by the time these guilds are done the game will be filled with castles and people waiting to trap players who dare enter.
also what is with ninkwi and chop suey

*Looks at topic makers name looks at thread tital wonders if the dude is obsessed with caps lock*
