Title: Moogie's First Custom Skin

This wouldn\'t be my first ever post if the bugs forum would let me alert the codies of the \'admin console\' hack. But anyways, ever being the eternal fiddler of files and such, I decided to do something useful now and create a skin.

Starting simple, of course. Seeing how it works and which files are used/how. I\'ve pretty much figured how just 4 skins create all those different skin/hair/eyes/clothes combinations... very clever, well done PS artists! :)

Now, on to the skin... I was a little disappointed there was no \'snow leopard\' appearance (yet), so, that\'s what I did. This is a female Enkidukai with snowy white fur and starry black clothes. It goes suprisingly well and looks just as good as those that come with the current PS release.

(Note that only you will be able to see the custom file; everyone else will see you using whatever *their* female enkid\' 3 file looks like.)

The file goes in C:\\Program Files\\PlaneShift\\art\\textures\\races\\fenkidukai and overwrites the current Female Enkidukai \'3\' appearance, so back up your old file just in case. For the full skin, all relevant character appearances, meaning eyes, skin and clothes, should be set to 3.

If you like it, I\'ll create more, so throw me some feedback! :)

[EDIT: Fixed broken screenshot link... Geocities only lets you link to .txt files and the file was still a \'.jpg\' Silly me.]
[EDIT2: Damn, this forum is wierd. When you click the download link, the URL gets added to the end of Planeshift\'s. Just remove that first bit and click the remaining URL and it should work. Silly forum.]

But yes, it is just a plain 5-10 minute play around. It\'s more of a \'getting used-to\' thing. :)

Tell me, do many people here do skinning? I\'d like to have a look at what\'s on offer, if anything.

I was part of the skinners guild for tribes so i have loads of top quality tribes skins i made i could show, but that doesnt really count :/

Its not easy to make completely original skins in planeshift due to the unusual mask shapes which make models look odd with different combinations. This also means originality is a hard thing to accomplish.

I\'m gonna play around for a while with the skins... I need to learn the peculiarities of the models (I\'m nothing of a 3D artist and have no means to preview them in any apps).

I wouldn\'t mind seeing more of your work, doesn\'t matter what game. How about it? Everyone loves to show off from time to time. ;)

Post by: hook on June 22, 2003, 08:05:44 am: now i remember why i didn\'t skin my character in the first place! ...i was scared (and am again) that the mass would find out how to skin and then exploit this feature (or is ti more a glitch?) ...well, glad it\'s still a bit under control ...but you never know, we might be having little bart simpsons or aliens running around soon... maybe there should be a rule, that if you\'re found with a unapropriate skin the devs\'ll delete your account ...that\'d work IMO :)

Well if you dont like the skins people make people dont have to install them. I wouldnt ask that everyone has monkeys swinging from washing lines like me :D

Damn my albums overloaded again, Ive finished that skin, detailed it and removed the sleeves for bare skin, ill try and get an ftp up later.

You know tyger, I\'ve passed a lot of time to make this head looks like an hybrid between feline and human.
Enkidukai are not tigers, they\'ve got more an ocelot appearance mixed with human.
We want exact feeling coming from the different characters. Enki are malicious, they must have a bit of evil in their eyes, but not too much a strenght feeling.

Concerning skins, you can\'t of course make everyone see your skin if they don\'t have the file in their reps.
Don\'t worry about guilds tags and such, I\'m sure the RP team has some nice ideas on that yet.

Anyway, it\'s a good idea, perhaps a contest could be fun, with the best skin being imported in the game...

A wild female would have more of a slender build. (think demi moore in gi jane)

I don\'t have much problem with the head, it\'s the body I argue with strongly

now, about the malicious thing, where does it say that they\'re evil, I don\'t like that idea at all, that would make my character evil, and I\'m a helpful gamer, what makes an enkidukai evil? explain that to me if you will.

Concerning things such as guild logos or tags, perhaps tattoos could be implemented. Anyone played Black&White? Anyone could see your tattoos, even custom ones. You could even layer them for different colour combinations. If something like that existed in PS, I\'d have something other than skinning to do :)

well actually i think jerry, itchy and tweetie we\'re the bad guys when you think about it ...these cats merely got their ass kicked, and the mice/birds started it

i prefere dogs to cats anytime, but the enkidukkai just look cool :D ...i\'d switch to a \"dog-race\" if there was one, and if their history would be good enough

Cats are far more peaceful towards humans... At least that\'s my experience...

Post by: Skain on June 23, 2003, 01:20:35 pm: gah, ive been scratched more times by cats than you can shake a big stick at, although dogs generally go barmy when they see me too... and monkey n gorillas... come to think of it most animals go nuts at me, dont think they like me. Last time i went to a zoo ppl were running off screaming as one of gorillas started trying to break glass to get at me. But i still prefer dogs, they just run at me and bark and growl, theyve never fully bit me.
I think Cheshire cat just dramatised me as a kid too.

Ive been looking at the cat models, their not that bulky or fat at all, they give the image of it though because of the males stance and oversized upperarms.

i wow me doggie :] ...not a very big fan of cats though, but i don\'t mind them around nor playing with them

p.s. yea i know it sounds contradictory with the fact that i play an enkidukkai, but you\'ve got to remember that the enkidukkai are the enkidukkai, not a mix of cats and humans ...just like the diavoli (or is it diaboli?) aren\'t a mix of satan and humans, nor is a kran a cross-breed between a human and a rock :rolleyes:

My parents nursed them back to health, and they grew to be very friendly

I\'ve never had any luck with dogs tho, most of them either die(one of my dogs got her head bit off by my brothers\' dogs when they were fighting over rutting priveledges, and another was run over by a cat food truck) or they just flat out hate me
