Question for the devs:
Are the names for the “Kran Ale” and “Kran Liquor” finalized? Couldn't the name be something which suggests the major ingredient? ::| Unless … :o
Maybe they should be called ‘kranic’ — à la scotch whisky?
If I might be so bold as to suggest a few possible, non-mercuric, choices for components in an inebriative beverage for kran:
- bromine, elemental or in aqueous salts
- aqueous caesium salts
- H2SO4, aqueous or neat
If you'd rather that I submit recipes via your form, then I'll do so. This thread can be used to discuss possible ingredients from other kran players.

I don't think the name needs chancing. Think it like nonalcoholic drinks: they're named as nonalcoholic ale etc. but they're not ales, rather trying to imitate one.
-
Perhaps they have the name Kran in them to remind people that they can't drink that unless they are a kran.
-
...they can't drink that unless they are a kran.
We'll i can always try! ;D

Maybe someone who's attempted homebrew could chime in here, but i think the class of beverage, vis–à–vis ‘ale’ or ‘lager’ or ‘beer’ et al., descibes the method of brewing and does not actually — leastways not in traditional vernacular — require that it contain alcohol. The alcohols are, of course, a product of fermentation, but methinks they can be evaporated or expunged and the beverage maintain its status of ‘ale’ or whatever.
BTW, what are the ingredients of - Kran Ale and
- Kran Liquor ?
-
'kranic'
Um...YES. Can this be a universally agreed upon name for anything that inebriates a Kran please?
I'm a Kran player but I'm no chemist so I wouldn't know where to start when it came to ingredients that would seem plausible for inebriating a mineral based fantasy race.

Such as in organic chemistry, alcohols work with the hydrox- (OH) group, perhaps for silicon-based entities such as Kran, something along those lines would work too. Maybe not something caustic like acids or bases, but perhaps some certain salts, which are byproducts of the aforementioned. They would have to be inorganic salts, created by strong acids mixing with strong bases.
I don't know man, I'm not a die-hard scientificistperson.
-
I may know how it affects Kran: they just think it does affect them the same as as alcohol does affect humans!
I don't think the dev team has declared how a Kran brain works have they?
-
Who said krans have brains?

...
BTW, what are the ingredients of - Kran Ale and

Kran Ale-- Distilled water, salt spirt, nitric spirt. There is some combining, corroding and distilling involved.
Kran Liquor-- Quicksilver solution nitric spirit, and distilled water. Combining and corroding again involved.
Not sure if that answers your question or not.

So they thought "what's the point for making an alcoholic beverage, besides fermentation? Distilling? So be it" and thus Kran booze was born.

Sure does. So we've got NaCl(aq) and HNO3(aq) for one, and HgNO3(aq) for the other.
Thanks Jess.

Pardon me for playing Spock, but distillation involves heating a substance in a special apparatus which allows you to collect the more volatile components apart from the original mixture or solution. E.g. it is used with wine to extract the ethanol and more volatile aromatics away from the water — i.e. resulting in a solution of higher proof liquor known as brandy.
