The title was pretty misleading ... but the plot made it all up. Reading and seeing another person's dreams is amazing. And with the right tools we may even use it in the medical department, e.g. for helping comatose patients who are unable to express their symptoms in the physical world.

On the other hand, if used incorrectly it would have dire consequences to the populace's privacy. Imagine Mirrorbook^TM, where all your inner thoughts are processed as you dream and recorded for anyone to see!
