Title: Maintaining PS
Post by: bcrew on June 21, 2003, 08:44:46 am
I was just wondering, how is PS going to be kept free?  Even if there are people who would serve the game for free, wouldn\'t there become an overwhelming amount of users before long?  Are the developers planning on regulating the amount of users on the server at one time?  The game seems to have some pretty bad lag at times(Though it could be caused by the game code).  I just hope PS finds a way to succeed where other free MMORPGS failed. :(

This is something that will develop over time.  At the moment the current server is not breaking a sweat with the number of players it is handling.  So we expect that we can handle a fair number of people yet.

We are always improving each area of the game and the network is just one area that will get better from version to version.

i\'ve asked this already, but i\'ll ask again:

is there a way to run a \"single PS server\" the same as seti@home and zeta work? ...i mean, have a server set as database, but \"server clients\" (not the same as the PS clients), that people run who want to contribute their bandwidth and CPU time to PS, to calculate everything else

if this is possible, then we\'d be the first game to use this AND even more importaint, we wouldn\'t need to have separate servers
