Title: MOB Hostility?
Post by: Wedge on June 21, 2003, 11:02:08 pm
Just wondering, how hostile will enemies be in the game, and will there be variance in it?  Exploration is my primary goal, so I hope there will be treasures and skills you can attain that DON\'T require you to kill stuff.

What I want to see most in this game is that you aren\'t forced to do anything and you can play it how you want, since that\'s where I think all MMORPGs need to go.  That\'s also why Verant needs to burn, burn, burn, be melted down, be molded into a building, and then burned again.

yeah I have to say that most of the games pretend that you are free to do whatever you want but in the end you have to hack & slsh to achieve your objectives, to gain xp, in other words to have a character worth playing....

Indeed, you should receive exploration points, that finally become xperience points later on ; in the same way, you HAVE TO be able to have a good character by only being a merchant

I hope that the game is going to be a lot like that of funcom\'s Midgard... But I have some idea that you don\'t have to be a warrior or wizard and go hack n\' slash to gain xp... I am fairly sure that the job you select when you create your character can be used to gain xp and money, by getting employed in a place that needs your specifik profession...

Yeah, i aslo think that the ones who don\'t like hack\' n slash system and the powerlevelers should be able to raise their skills.
It would be Paradise for all players.

In a perfect world... it sounds too good to be true, IMHO. Sweet as it would be, I think the devs should focus on pressing matters before they go over their heads.

Firstly they need to do something about the game engine and get rid of that lag. We need to see better weather behavour, dangly meshes, pixel-shaded water, and all the fancy stuff. Make it look, sound and feel \'right\'... and then build upon that.

They need to keep \'freedom of play-style\' in the back of their minds, all the time. They shouldn\'t ever lose sight of that. But they do need to make a good game to house such freedom. It\'s no good being able to do all of these things if the game feels unfinished, buggy, slow, cumbersome.

Right now, the current release feels quite smooth and thoughtful for a pre-alpha. There\'s certainly alot of freedom to explore (whether it be the ability to jump outside the city via level design glitches, or climb up and along walls). Intentional or not, people love exploring and exploiting their freedom, thusly devs should be constantly aware of what we require of them.

[Moogle! Stop typing for heaven\'s sake and go get some food!]

The voices have spoken. :)

I don\'t think its possible to get rid of lag, it\'ll be there no matter what, its only a statement about how much you get. oh and its \"whether,\" not weather.

umm, dude...
There\'s \'weather\' and there\'s \'whether\'...
when you are referring to the white sticks that fall out of the sky - that\'s \'weather\'...
\'whether\' or not you think so.

Go read a dictionary... you might learn something...

sorry for flaming, but if you get the point of the post, there\'s no need to correct the poster... especially if there isn\'t anything to correct...
