Hi everybody,
I\'m back from holiday. Great to see we have a new member, welcome Phoenix!
It seems as if we have settle on the new ranks structure as shown on our website http://arcaneorder.cjb.net/. We don\'t expect any changes there unless some major changes come in the new releases of the game under alpha and beta releases.
I am about to start writing a background history for the guild which will be circulated amongst members and once approved will be posted on the website and possibly here. So watch this space in order to follow the unfolding saga of the Arcane Order!

I can see there is a need for some active guilds who respond to applications for membership! People new to PS get \"switched off\" when they try to join guilds and those fail to respond (http://www.planeshift3d.com/wbboard/thread.php?threadid=4858&boardid=18&styleid=3&sid=dfcac12b3f92cab020c5fd84e54b59f6) at all!
Here is a pledge: Arcane Order will respond to every application for membership within 48 hrs, mostly within 24. We cannot promise that everyone will be accepted, as it is a guild for mages and those who want to practice magic. However fighter/mages (Spellswords) and Rogue/mages (Nightblades) are not only welcome but sought after!
We will seriously consider and respond to your application as well as provide guidance as to how to create a character that is tailored for the Arcane Order Guild.
Newbees are welcome as apprentices (we want to get to know you and assess your personality and commitment before we allow rank increases).
Hope to hear from some of you soon!

Hmm, right... When i looked at the other guild\'s ranking systems, i found these: Veteran soldier = Hmm, veteran... Wonder how he got that status? Master assassin = Hmm, wonders... Even if one of our councilmember is called \"Raiyuh the Red - Master of Flames\", it doesn\'t mean he has to be the best red magic user in the whole Yliakum, but it means he\'s AO\'s master of using red magic, just like Master Assassin in Shadowhand, he might not be the best assassin in the game, but he can still be their guilds master in it.

It\'s all about the roleplay! Stats, skills, points, experience... it doesn\'t mean anything yet. Of course they know that... but hey, if you\'re going to be in a guild, you can\'t just not have a rank, right..?

Hi Dril :D It took me just a little while to get the big smile on when I read this post, then I remembered it was you and came to think of the humorous and toungue in the cheek nature of so many of your other posts. :D
Whether tongue in the cheek or not it is an important point you raise.
Tepsu id right though, this is a phenomenon that is seen everywhere in existing PS guilds and as we are still in pre-alpha it really can\'t be any different. I would expect that not before we get to at least beta will the issue of XP\'s and mastering higher levels of blah blah blah :P wether magic or anything else become relevant and a deciding factor.
Even if one of our councilmember is called \"Raiyuh the Red - Master of Flames\", it doesn\'t mean he has to be the best red magic user in the whole Yliakum, but it means he\'s AO\'s master of using red magic ...
As a founding member of a guild of blah... blah (starting to enjoy this 8) ) it is showing an intrest and having the intention of mastering whatever skill that is important. Magic for example is still without rules, spells etc. so no-one could even begin working on it. The other side of the coin ito guilds is the actual devotion to guild organisation and activities. There, being a web-designer/administrator, PR person for guild, recruitment \"officer\" (no officer training available I must regret 8) ) or just a loyal and active member is at least as important as being a blah blah blah skill ace with blah blah level etc. etc.
Again I agree with Tepsu, you don\'t have to be the best at a skill to be the representative of that interest or skill. If that were so every military general in the world would also have to be an extremely well trained effective \"lethal weapon\". That is however not the case as those good at those skills more often than not sux at organisation, logistics etc. So, the leader of an rogue, fighter, mage, merchant ... blah blah bla guild does not have to be the most proficient expert of that class. The leader has to devote a lot of time to leading ( :) ), organisation, planning, strategy etc. and would therefore have less time to master skills. Those characters who spend all their available time practicising their skill are inevitably bound to become more proficient at that. Thus I expect that only seldom will guild leaders also be the most \"lethal weapons\" or blah blah blah of their blah blah blah skill and blah blah blah way etc. etc. etc. ........ etc. 8) .

Thanx, once again moogie to the rescue! Otherwise, Dril, we might as well scrap guild creation, development, recruiting etc. That will kill networking between ppl and a lot of the synergy that comes out of that will be lost to the detriment of the whole PS community and project.
Sheezz I\'m good at this :rolleyes: :D , I think I\'ll run for President of Yliakum and Dril you can be my Jester at the Court and neutralize all our enemies with your \"lethal humour\". I\'ll make you master of Comedy :P .

hehe, that\'s exactly why I posted to this guild... the primary reason why I said that earlier was just because I cracked up upon entering the guilds forum and realizing that there were over five pages of threads... I mean cmon how many guilds do we need in planeshift? People have mentioned guild wars and no pking... what\'s the point of no pking if everyone is in a guild?
Roleplaying... that\'s bullshit -> everyone here understands that for the the \'guilds\' to hold these almighty positions for the first couple weeks all the prestigious guilds are going to be powergaming their members so that they can claim to be the best guild. No, I\'m not the biggest fan of guilds - my favorite occupation in was to join guilds and make enemies of nearly every guild/clan I came across in the world - then seeing that my work was done I would make a new account join a new clan and rinse and repeat... *blissful sigh*
Nonetheless, complete reversal of opinion here - i\'m looking for a guild to join in which I\'ll be showered in gifts and praise for little or no effort - anything like that available?

You should read the piece I wrote (not in any way accredited to my name because it was a co-operative venture) for Bloodlines guild. Bloodlines is alignment neutral, which means everyone can join ... As long as you can stand in for the abovementioned ideals the Bloodlines Guild will be uninteressted as to whether you are a goodie-two-shoes with a shining halo, a regular grey mouse of non-destinct nature or an obnoxious little evil-doer pestering all other living things.
Obviously you fall into the latter category :D .
If you were willing to be the official Jester, sh*t stirrer and my anti-depression medication all-in-one you would be more than welcome in AO. I\'ll have to put a leash on you and keep you within my sight at all times so you don\'t go and wreak the whole guild in the first 3 days, but I\'ll manage.
When we really get p*ssed off at some other guild we\'ll let you loose as our secret weapon to infiltrate and annihilate them from the inside. :evil: :evil:

I think I\'ll make a Kran who specializes in defencive combat since if you look at the combat page on the planeshift webpage you can choose to fight total defence - maybe you could create a melee battalion for the arcane order - just as a first line of defence for your mages - think of us as the official meat shields :) and if you\'ve ever read the wheel of time series (which you should if you havnt!!!) you can compare us to warders who defend their appointed wizard at all costs :)

Welcome back Dril, I was just starting to get depressed! :( Haven\'t read Wheel of time but seems that I will have to. Brilliant idea \'bout the warders, should be as specialized section of our Spellsword division. Since Krans are magic resistant they would be excellent defence in all out magical battles and could maybe learn simple defencive spells as well (although it will take them forever to learn 8) ).
So are you willing to head up that bodyguard for AO council members section yet? :D

I read the wheel of time for the first 7 books before it started to drag. I am still reading them though just cause I have this irresistable urge to find out how it ends.

you sick bastar.. oh just joking - you don\'t have to like the books, but I certainly love them and have read them ALL god knows how many times (about 9 + last I checked :D )
hmm.. some magic for my kran - if he had any magic it would definately be the ability to teleport enemies to himself :)

First you apply for membership.. we don\'t just give out the top ranks to newly initiated members..
You\'ll have to work your way through the ranks just like any other member.

Hi Dril, glad to hear you, finally, read our webpage. Well the idea of Spellswords are that they are Fighter/mages but I take it you have read the description (if not than blo*dy well do so I don\'t write stuff for the hell of it you know! ;( X( ). Anyway here it is:
Our elite Spellsword. The Term \"Holy\" should not be understood as \"good\" but rather as having devoted oneself to a cause (like nuns and abbots to the faith of the Catholic Church). These Spellswords have improved their fighting abilities and have gained much experience in battle, both offensively and defensively. They have defended and attacked for the sake of the Order and have proven themselves brave and reliable. On them rests the physical survival of the Order in a hostile world. They are the crack troops and commanding officers of the Arcane Order \"Army\". Apart from this they have progressed in their magical abilities, learned more spells and devoted themselves closer to their chosen Way(s) of magic.
Xalthar is right we have a minimum 3 week (real life time) period of being an apprentice. This is mostly for the other members (council as well as other ranks) to suss out the applicant. It is important for us that we all get along and like each other (I like your humor, that helps :grins).
Furthermore, we look for and appreciate enthusiasm and commitment, a guild is only as good and involved as its members and their ability to work together. After the mandatory 3 week try-out period the sky is (almost - council seats are taken) the limit. We have an apprentice at the moment who aims for the Arcane Warlock position and will most likely attain it. The positions for Arcane Nightblade (might suit your rougish smile ) and Arcane Spellsword are still open and we are recruiting for them. A Krahn might be a very good choice due to it\'s physical strength and resistance to magic as said before.
An important point to consider, we have a very co-operative spirit and structure in AO. There is no one leader, we have a council of 6 and decisions are made by majority vote (consensus wherever possible). Also positions are held due to leadership and continued involvement and dedication, i.e. an Arcane leader might well be voted out of that position if found wanting by members in his/her division and the council (final decision making power lies with council but member views and petition(s) will be strongly considered). Council seats can only be vacated or replaced by the council itself but even those seats are not held for life if commitment, co-operation and loyalty is found wanting.
So not only new members are evaluated but all members are evaluated collectively all the time. That is how we intend to remain dynamic and make a difference in Yliakum. If you like and can live with these principles and modes of operation we would be happy to invite you in as new member and apprentice. Just go to the site and register, the rest happens automatically.

With Drilixer\'s addition to our ranks we have now passed the \"magical\" number of 10 members. The four newest members are all in apprenticeship. At least two, Drilixer (http://koti.mbnet.fi/syvis/mem/drili.html) and Morgy (http://koti.mbnet.fi/syvis/mem/morgy.html) , are already aiming for higher ranks in their chosen fields of specialisation. We wish them all the best in their quest and believe they will prove to be assets to the guild.

Know the feeling Dril, my wife is danish, same look pitch black hair grey-blue eyes and beatiful as they come. Not exactly the archetypal idea of a Scandinavian - blue eyes blond hair etc - but that is an exageration like most archetypes (Kran\'s are dumbwitted etc. :D ).
Maybe we can recruit your Swede if you get lucky 8) , more scandinavians in AO is not a bad idea. (Ahem - now the thread is about recruitment again)

Well Dril, that\'s the Vikings for you. Everybody thinks the male Vikings were fearsome because they went out raiding The British Isles, Founded Normandy and Russia. Meanwhile \"back-at the-ranch\" so to speak they were sent out by the female Vikings to \"go and play\" whilst they got all the work and farming done. Also the male Vikings were glad to get away from their ruling-half (females :D ) and took their frustrations out on everyone else! So, \"manly\" and active in sports etc., man if only you know how we suffer over here in Scandinavia ;( .

Isgrimnur, thanks for the compliment on our recruitment thread. As you can see we both work and play hard here in PS as we do everywhere else. Actually we\'re having a ball! We are glad that you visited our thread, you are welcome to stick around and even more welcome to try out AO by joining as an apprentice if our guild and our way of doing things appeals to you.
Adding a mad-mumbling-Englishman to the deraded Danes, jappering yahoo Yanks, puzzling Poles, fumbling fanatic Finns, garbling Germans etc. that we already have in AO will just make it all the more fun. :P

It is also with pleasure I can announce that Morgy has been promoted by AO Council to the rank of Adept in record time (3 weeks minimum trail period as apprentice) due to the commitment and initiative he has shown.

And Tinnez, you must also know that this is a pre-alpha Tech demo version of the game, so there isn\'t much but chatting and building our guild (and of course expecting the next release of the game) to keep us together.. You must consider this, since we would like our members to be fairly active, and remain in contact...
Nothing sux more than having a member list of 60, where 50 of them are inactive...

If you feel you can be part of AO, read our website if you haven\'t yet, you are welcome to apply by mailing the join mail on our website.
All new members start as apprentices and there is a 3 week minimum trial period as apprentice. That gives you time to get to know us, and us time to get to know you. Also we want to see the kind of dedication and committment we can expect from a member.

We are happy to announce that Crownless has joined as new member. The Finns are growing in number and the Vikings (Scandinavians) are now giving the Yanks (Americans :P ) a run for their money in our ranks!
Furthermore, Drilixer has been promoted from Apprentice to Adept as of today 20:00 GMT due to a very engaged effort from his side both in PS and in AO and his general high profile 8o .

Drilixer the post of \"Postmaster\" was for posts on AO forum not PS. Secondly I messed up, actually Dannman is postmaster in AO forum not Isgrimnur but since the latter gentleman happened to make post reply #100 in this special thread in PS forum he is now a strong contender (in my sole, subjective and utterly correct view as founder of the idea of a postmaster) for that title now. Btw I did correct the the mistake on AO website.

Btw I\'m just wondering how Mirth with its admirable policy of having fun and helping ppl out can be allied with BO as long as Annah throws antics like this revolution thing? Is it not a bit self-contradictory?
Anyway we hope to have good relations with Mirth, and BO for that matter but not as long as Annah is playing the fool as it\'s leader.

I think Mirth want to be friends and hence allies to everybody, although this may present problems later it could be a worthwhile strategy if they can stay on the tightrope of friendship with everybody.

Yes Isgrimnur I agree. But we will have to see if Half-pint responds to this. Anyway AO is neutral as we all know by now 8) and we intend to have good relations with all sensible guilds and as many as is possible.
We support new guilds and even the creation of more if they have a sensible contribution to make. Of course we don\'t want to see a myriad of guilds copying what others have already done. However, guilds specialising in something, especially areas that are not covered by existing guilds, would be welcome and a good development of diversity in PS. Personally I think that we more than anything need a few more profession-specific guilds like builders, teachers etc.
New guilds with such a profile can rely on AO\'s support. We are not power hungry and will happily refer ppl who want to join a guild to another if the player\'s interests falls closer to another guild than to a Mage guild like our own.

Here is our policy regarding the Revolution thread:
1. Mirth will support the Black Order if/when they discover the hacker.
2. Mirth may or may not support actions against specific guilds. We will only support it if the guilds are spammers, griefers, or being a pain.
3. If the Black Order or any guild/person targets newbies (note that I say newbies, not n00bs) without a good reason Mirth Guild will consider them as enemies. We will react as strongly as is possible given the current state of the game.
Given this, I don\'t believe that Annah\'s actions so far justify a withdrawal of our alliance with the Black Order. He has explained himself more thoroughly, and as long as he remains within what he has said and only goes after n00bs (i repeat not newbs - n00bs) I see no problems. Getting rid of jerks and griefers is one thing, making war on newbies is unacceptable.
About our alliance plans in general, we will consider alliance proposals from any good/neutral guilds. Mirth does not ally with evil guilds. 8)

The sentiments after Annah\'s post speak for themselves and I agree. Annah, stop being such a Drama-Queen (again) to quote Vengeance after his reprimand of you the last time round you tried to get attention to your person by some outrageous action.
We seem to be in the same boat (god forbid) we have no problem with BO or you for that matter, but rather with your pathetic antics and your unsatiable need for attention. Not to mention your attitude of \"I am the big cahoona and will strike fear into the hearts of you all\". It\'s pathetic and w?, and many others, laugh at it.
I intend to say no more on this issue. You have retracted your stance on new guilds a little after the storm it created. You try to make out as if it was a misunderstanding, but we know very well you changed your position after pressure.
As I have warned you before I am in possesion of logs from a conversation where you make it abundantly clear where you stand as to new guilds, newbies making guilds and how you would like to destroy them all and get power and dominate the PS community. So the smart move will be to let this whole thing die a silent death and rather use your energy on finding the alleged hacker instead of harassing newer/new guilds.
Do so and I will also back off and there will be peace again. I have already constrained myself by NOT making those logs public. It would have showed you up for what you are but I felt it below my dignity to do so and did not want to embarrass you even more. However, you carry on behaving like you have and I might very well make it public.
So shall we all try to simmer down, get back to business as usual, and behave in a MODEST and restrained way? let us keep the real fighting for CB and out of the forums.

The Arcane Order members have been roleplaying recently on IRC. Today Seperot and several other non-AO members showed up as well. If you are interested in roleplaying we try to do so at around 3:00 PM EST. Go to the Roleplaying sections of our forums and make a post that contains your character\'s information. Then meet us at #ArcaneOrder and Quakenet a Server.
Hope to see some more Planeshifters there... but remember if you go in there trying to cause problems we reserve the right to kick you hard

And now you have \"explained\" to the Dev team how you would like to play nicely with them if they let you or play rough with them if they did not want you to play with them. :D They must be very clever, since they understood so well what you meant, and how much nicer it it when you play nicely. 8)

We\'ve won battles against sweden... just not entire wars... But the plans denmark had with russia were long ago.. before first worldwar.. before communism.. Russia had sent a force to denmark that were to cross into sweden and help us capture them..
And if we go back in the old, old viking days... Denmark beat the crap out of sweden (and norway) and was a huge colonial power...
We still help govern greenland you know, and they still answer to our queen :P

I think that we were \'revived\' by the patrotism an strengh of my people (and of course by ocassion - Germans gave us [thx]). After 123 years of ... disassemblance, we didn\'t lost our culture, homeland and language. After 123 years! we have survived under Germans, Russians and Austrian... threatening us and trying to learn their languages and cultures. But the Polish people were stupid when it started, not like now :].
But let not make a PS a history book.

Naah, I didn\'t think so. So We are fine-tuning the structuring of tasks in AO council and will soon announce the final structure. Our membebrs will then all be assigned to some of the projects that are up-and-running already.
Also we are considering closing open recruitment and commencing invitation-only recruitment soon. In fact we will probably decide at a cut-off point of X-number of members after which it will be invitation only. So anyone out there playing with the idea of approaching us to join, wink-wink ... hint-hint, DO IT NOW 8o whilst you have the chance ..... :D

Well we have a new structure in terms of how we divide work and projects in AO coming up soon (it is done but not announced yet). Also we have one or two promotions coming and we have not closed recruitment on an open basis yet 8) . We need maybe 2 or so members more before we go to invitation-only recruitment mode .......
So if you\'re planning on being a mage and want in, NOW would be a good time to join :D
