Title: Casinos! Gambling!
Post by: Davewaveman on July 06, 2003, 11:57:37 am
Wouldn\'t it be cool if there were casinos in PS? Or the ability to gamble with other players and lose all your money and items...

sure it\'d be cool but lets think for a minute, how would you feel if you lost every item you owned and all the items your owned are rare.

Perhaps each player could \'tag\' some of their items to be used as bets when the game first starts. Once you\'ve confirmed them, you can\'t go back on your word, and if you pull out of the game your items are added to the \'prize funds\' which the winner of the game will eventually receive.

that\'s an idea worth thinking about.

I don\'t think they had like \"casinos\" in the medival?
What i want to see is beting, like street fighting.

\"2 Golden things on the left one!\"

That would be cool, but if they just implaned player trading (Wich im sure they will), u just had to give the other player your beting... See what i mean?

And who\'s sure the player really gives his item to the winner?

That\'s where the trusted thrid player comes in - some one to hold the bet.

It will probably become proper to tip the holder when a large bet is won.

Eventually it evolves into a bookie - someone that sets odds, takes single bets so you do not need to find someone to bet against - taking a couple of % off the top of every bet, etc.

A full time job.

Betting sure sounds cool.. And meningless contests like \"who can get a mug from all continents first\" where you bet a large amount of inventory..

As a Jew, I feel obligated to educate you...The Jews invented Gambling and casinos thousands of years ago.  Remember the dreidel?  ;-)

(woah, it\'s flooding here...  are we getting a touch of that hurricane?  I\'m in a particular part of town where all the water city-wide rushes by. ?_?)

Maybe we could have bets placed on fights where the fights are harmless, like the battle arena in FF7...

Since they\'re having PvP arenas, I\'d think that while they\'re at it they\'d implement a tournament function.

So like every weekend there would be a tournament, with different classes and such.  And while the competitors must all pay an entrance fee for the winner, that there could also be (legal/illegal?) gambling amongst the people on who they think is going to win.  It would really add to the spirit of things, or so I think.

\"So like every weekend there would be a tournament, ...\"

Every weekend??  That would be like hundreds of tournaments every day, at the speed the PS world turns! :D

Joking aside, I think you\'re right.  Someone wanna formulate and post on SourceForge, quickly before someone comes up with a reason why betting on fights is a bad idea?
