Title: Seeking to join Development Team
Post by: Hayden on July 07, 2003, 09:24:46 pm
Greetings, I\'ve attempted to contact the leader of your graphics team throuhg your \"Help Us\" section.  I honestly want to assisst in the development of this game, but neither message was recieved.  Is there an alternate adress I can apply to?  Anyone I can contact?

Go to irc.freenode.com/net and join #planeshift. A lot of the devs are there.

I\'ve also sent an e-mail asking to be allowed to contribute. Now, I sent it off a couple of days ago and I do know it might take some time before getting a reply, but I\'m curious; are you supposed to send your application to the branch leader or to the info-address (info@planeshift.it)?

I sent an E-Mail to both, and both E-Mails were returned to my account because the adresses didn\'t exist.  Unfortunately, I don\'t know where to turn because I didn\'t find anyone on the DEV team on MIRC.

Hayden, there are always at least a few devs at freenode. Look for Boonet|3D

You have to look out becouse there are 2 irc channels and one of them is no dev at all (exept Parasite maybe).. The freenode adress is where the devs hang out.

You can also post here on the forum,, so others can read it :)

I\'ve decided at this point that I\'ll wait to request to join the development team; my skills need further refinement.  Thank you all for your assisstance.

Hayden, make sure to hang out on the IRC channel and get your questions answered by devs.   Anyone with ops in #planeshift is a leader and should be able to help you refine your skills till there useful for production material.

Let\'s just clarify something about mailing..

1)
The devs are human beings. They are not required to check their mail every 5 minutes, just because *You* mailed them. If they want to reply, they will. Don\'t worry.

2)
If the devs mail addy(s) is not working, try whack Luca around (info@planeshift.it). But just as a note to the impatient souls. Luca isn\'t fast when it comes to replying mails. :) He has a private mail addy tho, but I\'m not sure if he will enjoy that I hand it out to people...

3)
You don\'t ask if you can contribute with stuff. You send some samples of what you CAN contribute, and the dept. leader looks at it. There\'s no reason to include the first two mails (asking & getting a reply) as you can just skip right to the point. Maybe the devs are human beings, but they\'re not stupid. :)

I sent an email about a week ago (though now I can\'t seem to find it!), and I thikn I woudl be a godo edtior.  Should I correct the grammar, spelling, and punctuation of the lady at the tavern and send it to them?  I feel a little nervous about that, especially since now I can\'t tell whether or they even received my first email.  I don\'t want to come across as obsessive, though I am, because I only have so much time I can spare...

(If anyone from the PS team is reading this, I also program and do quite a wide range of stuff.  I\'d be able to donate my creativity to several parts of PS.)

I *think* I sent an email to info@planeshift.it, but I guess I\'ll try again, with an explanation of why they may have two copies.

I don\'t mean to sound rude, but anybody could do that, really... :)

Sure anybody could do that, but nobody wants to do that. :-?

Besides, if I don\'t have what it takes to be a programmer or artist, I could take grunt work from those who do.  Actually, I applied for whatever position the team would find me most useful in.  I could program, write dialog, design the universe, and solve technical problems.  I think I\'d be best not tied down to any position but instead helping out here and there.  Unfortunately, I think it\'s most likely that I\'d be hired as an editor.  I\'d be satisfied with that.  (Colossians 3:23 - \"Whatever work you do, put yourself into it, as those who you are serving are not merely other people, but the Lord.\")

\"Tuppence here. :D\"

Really?  I only gave two cents for this one...

I also thought about this, but i just dont have the motivation to finish this xacha model without being on the team lol.

and what if they reject? all that work for nothing ohhhh that would be bad.

I think the developers are looking for people who are enthusiastic about the project, whether they\'re on the team or not. If your only motivation comes from the prospect of joining the team, I can\'t really see things working out once the novelty of it wears off.

I\'m not sure I understand you.. Are you making THE xacha model?
If so doesn\'t that make you part of the team?

Nobody is officially taking care of modeling/skinning the xacha model now. If someone is seriously trying to do so, he should apply to the team.

Well there you have it bbum... You could join the team and continue with your modelling of the Xacha, and then your work certainly wouldn\'t be wasted...
