I\'m posting this to address all the questions new players have ever asked me in the game (that I can currently think of). I assure you, if it\'s been asked before, it\'s probably been written down here. :)

NEW : What do I do in PlaneShift, where do I get started?[/U]
This is for anyone who is looking for some answers about the current playability of the game.
In the current release, Molecular Blue, there arn\'t many things to do. There are basically 2 large maps to explore- the city of Hydlaa and the Dungeon.
All over these maps you\'ll chance upon small crystals sticking out of the ground. Crystals are the game\'s currency at the moment. If you collect these crystals, and learn where they appear, you may eventually gather enough to buy a decorative weapon. But before you ask, no, there is no combat or monsters yet.
Aside from the \'Crystal Hunt\', there are 2 NPC quests to find and complete. Anyone asking for the solutions to these quests will be shot... seriously, don\'t do it. There is no reward for completing these quests other than the satisfaction of having done it. To find a quest, talk to all of the NPCs in the world. There are 13 in total. For guidance on talking to NPCs, read the Player\'s Guide (http://www.planeshift.it/player_npcs.html) on the main website.

In no particular order, let the questioning commence!
1. Where can I earn money?
Right now, there is no way of earning proper money (called Tria in the Planeshift world). However, you may collect varieties of crystal which you can later exchange for weapons. Crystals can be found in the places you\'re not normally going to look- so for example, behind barrels, between narrow alleyways, at the back of houses, under rocks, in dark corners and even places that require you to scale walls.
2. Where can I buy weapons and armour?
Go to http://planeshift.fragnetics.com/merchant/merchant.html for a list of items you can currently buy. You must have enough crystals in your inventory to be able to purchase these items. Unfortunately, you cannot purchase armour in the current release.
3. Where can I go fight mobs/monsters?
Right now, you can\'t, as they don\'t exist.
4. Is there any combat or magic yet?
Nope. Hopefully Crystal Blue (the PS release expected in a couple of months) will have some form of combat however.
5. How do I pick up crystals?
Right click the crystal when you see it\'s name appear on your screen. In the popup menu, click the hand icon.
6. What does a crystal look like?
You\'ll know a crystal when you see one. Rubies (worth one unit of money) are red, Emeralds (worth ten) are green and Diamonds (worth a whopping one hundred!) are blue. As you can imagine, Emeralds are rarer than Rubies and Diamonds are extremely rare indeed.
7. How do I add a buddy/start a guild/find out who is online/other command?
In the chat box, type /help for a useful list of all available commands in the game. Also, check out the Player\'s Guide on the website (or by going to the start menu, programs, Planeshift, Player\'s Guide) for another long command list.
8. How do I talk to NPCs?
Again, check the Player\'s Guide. This will hopefully give you some clues as to what kind of words and phrases NPCs will react to. Don\'t worry, the rest of the community find it just as incredibly difficult as you do to talk to them, so don\'t feel like you\'re doing something wrong. (NPCs and their dialog will be greatly improved, by the way- they\'re only here in the current release for debugging purposes and to try to give the game a little bit of variety or life.)
9. How do I get a Quest?
The developers have asked that this remain a secret and only people who have not completed the quests themselves may help you. However, I can say that you get the (only) quest (in the game at the moment) by talking to one of the NPCs. There would be two quests, however some NPCs have been missing for a while now, so you can only complete one of them.
10. Where are the NPCs/How many are there?
There are thirteen NPCs: five at the library, five at the tavern, two in the park outside the huge iron tower and one in the dungeon beneath Laanx temple. Note that NPCs frequently go missing, so don\'t be suprised if you can\'t find many of them.
11. Where is the tavern?
Starting from the statue in the center of town, go down the road towards the huge brown tower. Take your second left-turn (the first is an alleyway) and follow the path around. You\'ll come across the tavern to your left.
12. Where is the library?
Starting from the statue again and facing the temple\'s front, travel to your east. Along that line of houses you\'ll find the library.
13. I\'ve fallen under the temple into some kind of cave and I\'m lost! Help!
You\'re not lost, you just didn\'t expect to have to find your own way back out. I suggest you explore this cave a little first- you\'re more likely to find crystals down here than in the town (simply because they\'re less hidden, sometimes spawning in the middle of a path). To get out of the labyrinth, find the room on the bottom level which has many rows of tall pillars and a green, rocky floor. Starting from either entrance to this room, head over to the left-hand staircase and climb it. Look around up there and you\'ll see a corridor which leads to more stairs up. It doesn\'t matter which direction you take from here- either way, you\'ll end up back at the surface.
14. I\'ve fallen off the leve/become irreversably stuck- Help!
Don\'t panic. First, you must make sure you have run the Updater program, located in your root PS directory. If you have not previously done this, just quit the game, run it, and log back in. Now, in the chat box, type \"/spawn\" (without the quotes). You\'ll be teleported next to the statue in the center of town.
15. Why is there SO MUCH LAG!?
This is a commonly discussed problem and everyone will experience it sometimes. If you find your in-game messages not appearing for as long as sixty seconds, or your framerate drops dramatically and you can\'t move, I feel for you. I know exactly what it\'s like, but there\'s nothing we can do about it. There\'s no fix and we don\'t even really understand the reason for this happening. Just grin and bare it untill the devs are able to address the problem.
16. How do I switch to fullscreen/change the game\'s window size?
Run the PSSetup.exe file found in your root PS directory.
17. How can I disable music?
While in the game, click the O menu button (the one at the far left of your screen).
18. What are the system requirements for Planeshift?
Currently there\'s no official word on this, but I would recommend a fairly high-end PC to enjoy Planeshift with as little peformance trouble as possible. This ideally means over 1ghz processor, at least 300mb of RAM (as various people have reported the game\'s memory usage reaching this amount) and a decent graphics card with up-to-date drivers.
19. Can I crouch?
Nope, the only things your character can handle right now are walking, running, jumping and greeting.
20. How do I greet someone?
Target them (right click while their name is visible on your screen) and type /greet into the chat box. To greet \'everybody\', have nobody as your target.
21. Can I open doors?
I thought I told you to read Tomaseth\'s guide first! He answered this question before I will- no you can not open doors yet.
22. How do I get on the temple/climb walls/hop along roofs/other cool ability?
Ah, that takes skill and lots of practice. Half of the fun of the game for me is discovering such bugs and glitches, so I won\'t tell you how to do them. It\'s a nicer feeling to know that you discovered how all on your own- even if other people have achieved the same thing many times before you.

Not I nor anybody I know exploits any glitches or bugs that would give us an unfair advantage over other players. What we are doing is testing the game- testing it\'s limits, it\'s physics, it\'s quirks and oddities, so that the developers can be aware of weaknesses in their coding or level design and work towards building a better, fairer game for us all. Also, it\'s just a game- calm down. :)
24. Is there any way to add my own skins/skin parts of the GUI?

25. How do I enable Mouselook?
Press \\ or # button on your keyboard.
26. My character is running forward on his own and I can\'t stop him! Help!
R is the Autorun key. You probably pressed it by mistake- just press it again and you\'ll stop.
27. How do I change the mouse sensitivity?
Quoted from my Customisation Guide thread:
\"To alter the speed of your mouse movement when using the mouselook mode, open up psclient.cfg found in your root PS directory. Scroll down to Part 3 and look at the line just above it.
The default value here is 1.0 but I think this is horribly low. You may change this value to whatever you please, but for guidance I suggest you first change it to 3.0 and then test the difference ingame.\"

29. When will the game be finished?
Well, the not-so-official word is that they\'re hoping to be near enough finished in as little as 14 months. Little? Yes, considering the type of game they\'re envisioning, I\'ll be quite suprised to see everything finished in such a short development time.
30. Is there fall damage?
There\'s no fall damage just yet. If there was, you would probably injure yourself simply by jumping down the hole inside the temple- and I assume that\'s not what the developers had in mind.
31. How do I get on that huge tall tower that\'s next to the temple?
Let me refer you to question 13. When exiting the dungeon, take the left-hand staircase. This will bring you to the top of the tower. Don\'t worry though, there\'s no fall damage, so it\'s safe to jump down from here.
32. How long does it take for crystals to respawn?
It can take anywhere from 1-45 minutes. There\'s certain spots all over the world where crystals will appear, but you\'re not guaranteed to find a crystal in those places whenever you look. The type of crystal spawned is also random.
33. How do I get into those little tunnels in the labyrinth?
Unfortunately, not even the dwarves can get in there. The tunnels are just for show... however, there is a cave which most people miss, even though it is practically right infront of you as you climb the steep hill. Apparently, crystals spawn there sometimes... ;)
34. How do I get rid of the chat window?
Firstly, click the little arrow in the top-left corner of the screen, and then press F1. You\'ll have a less obstructed view now, but the downside is you won\'t know if anybody\'s talking to you. Just press F1 again to make the chat box visible.
35. Is there a quick key I can use to switch between chat and movement?
Yes there is. Pressing Tab switches from typing in the chat box to being able to move around.
36. I found a crystal but I can\'t pick it up. It seems stuck to the floor! Help!
Aww... sorry, but sometimes that happens. Try to pick it up a couple of times, as it may just be lag causing the crystal to not immediately be picked up off the floor. If after a while nothing happens however, I\'m afraid that the crystal is bugged. When the server reboots sometimes, this problem either fixes itself or the crystals simply bug in another spawn point. The developers are aware of this bug, so there\'s no need to report it.
37. How do I leave the town?
There\'s no proper way to get out of town and certainly no reward for doing so. Infact, there\'s nothing outside the walls *at all*, apart from the occasional crystal spawn. To leave town, find some way of jumping over a fence or wall. I\'ll leave the method up to you to discover- it\'s part of the fun.
38. Are you a dev?
I\'m not a dev, but I am \"on the team\". I\'m a forum moderator here, a game moderator in the actual server, and a contributer of 2D spell textures and spell effects.
39. I just logged in and I can\'t see anything- it\'s total darkness! Help!
This is a glitch that happens sometimes when you first log in. Try moving around a little and wait a few minutes. Soon the lights will switch on for you. :)
40. The spawn command doesn\'t work. What do I do?
If typing /spawn does not work for you, quit the game and run the Updater program found in both your PS directory and the PS start menu group. After your client is all up-to-date, log back into the game and /spawn will work. (this is already answered in #14)
41. Is there a mailing list I can subscribe myself to?

42. I use an Azerty keyboard. What key do I use the activate mouselook?

You can\'t... not yet. The most popular answer to this question is: \"The same way you crouch.\" ;)
44. The third View mode seems pretty useless... how do I use it?[/B]
This is the Camera mode. Click and hold the right mouse button and move the mouse to rotate/tilt the camera. Hold both buttons down and move the mouse towards/away from you to zoom in and out.
45. How do I know when the server is online/offline?
At the top of any forum page you can see the text: \"Laanx: Server: running World: loaded. Clients: ##\" if the server is currently online. If it is offline, you will see \"Laanx: Server: OFFLINE\". You can also go to the Planeshift Fragnetics Server Website (http://planeshift.fragnetics.com) to check the status.
Planeshift is still in it\'s very, very early stages of development and you\'re lucky to be a part of it right now. As the game progresses, you\'ll be able to fight monsters, train your skills and work on your jobs. Just give it time- alot of time.

btw, we knew before we released MB that you could climb walls by jumping, etc. We\'ve played the game thousands of times ourselves, remember. :-) It isn\'t an exploit or cheat... we left it in there like that just to give people something else to do and more opportunity to explore.

however i have to correct my previous assertion, it seems only to be valid on win32, i finally got the sources to compile on my debian sid, the one working there to activate mouselook is \'\\\\\' (obtained through \"alt gr\"+\"8\" )
I experienced some problems which I will now report in a more appropriate thread

Hey im new (Totally new) how do i start the game up?

The game installs by default to c:\\program files\\PlaneShift so the executables are all in there.
Before you load the game, run the Updater and then configure your game with the pssetup.exe program.
You can also start the game by going to the start menu > programs > PlaneShift > \'Planeshift - OpenGL Mode\'

The game will never be \"completed\" or at least, that is the plan... PS is ever-evolving, and so is the graphics system, so new content, and new graphics should be added regularly... There is, however, going to be a new release (Crystal Blue) around december, or perhaps later... depending on how much time the devs have...

DUN DUN DUN DUN, i have found 3 more NPC\'s not listed Here where they are i wont say tl i got talk to them somemore.. Well atm im having hella hard time getting into game.. looking for that compatibility post someone mentioned on the LINKDEAD thread under tech support, WHERE DO I CHANGE IT i didnt see it in Setup.. I was getting into the game just fine the last few days then yesterday POOF game died server is linkdead its disconnecting me from my ISP and everything weird and ungrateful as such. Okay.. LIke i said 3 more not sure if they are new but they arent at the tavern or library......... And for continuance..................

The 3 are new and part of the second quest...it just makes it harder (and therefore more fun...for me) to do it if it takes you longer to find them ;)
The server moved but that should not be a problem anymore, just keep trying and you will get in. (The server may also be down, be sure to check out the server status page to be sure)

Does anyone know how to make a suggestion to the dev-team??? If so, could someone suggest to put in a full 3rd person view instead of constant 1st? it\'d make it more enjoyable for alot of people. Of course keeping the option of 1st person as well for those who like that.

Fei: There are 3 view modes- 1st Person, 3rd Person and Camera. Press the M key to toggle between them.

Thank you very much moogie... i am new to this game and thus far i am waiting on pins and needles for the crystal blue release.... the information you parted with helped me alot and for that thank you.... but i do have one question that you did not cover..... where the blue blazes do i find the update since i am wondering if that will help with my computer problems.... i run a amd athlon MMX 3D now 900 mhz.....510mb of ram....Radeon 7200 (qd) Rev 1.... not that you probably wish to know that *laughs* but hey i kept seeing everyone else saying what they had so i thought what the heck why not..... i was just wondering if my system will handle it or the lag and the kicks are because it\'s not good enough....oh yeah .... i run windows 98se....what i thought of a quick thank you turned out to be a book *laughs*... so can you direct a pooooooooor kytty to the location of the update it would be most appreciated

You can get the update by running the program called Updater.exe, found in your main PlaneShift directory. This will check for new versions and download any files you need.

4-30 in these days. More will play when CB(next release) comes out(soon). \"Lag\" is inevitable.

Just wanted to say thanks for all the time and effort you have put into this. I?m not only new to PS but I?m new to online gaming as well (unless you count pogo). I think this a wonderful opportunity to see how a game such as this will evolve. I do have a few questions yet, but will read more before I ask! Thanks again for all the wonderful info.

As you can see I\'m a super noob. ^^ I just wanna say thanks to Mogura.. that was a great help. I am still in the process of DLing the whole thing, but I have tried to read everthing that I can read in the site and I\'m very excited to try the game myself! Those tips would definately help me not to bother most players in asking overly-asked questions so that\'s a good thing. Great to know that I wont be pissing people off with noob questions..... that much. :D Okay for my first question, when can I call you moogie? ;)

If you want to ask questions to Mogura, if they are PS-related, post them in Newbie Help, as a moderator, she often read this section.
PS is big and will be even bigger for the next release (x2). But currently, you don\'t need too much bandwidth to play it (the lag is caused by 3d engine).

JSnoob: I\'d give graphics a 9, and 10 for potentially interesting. I say potentially because there\'s many things that will be implemented in the future, but there\'s not much to do right now.

I\'ve been reading as much as I can from this site, started downloading the client and reading through the forums for tips on getting started. This section has been a great help and has reassured me that it\'s ok to run around and discover things myself, which I really like to do before joining groups of adventurers or guild.
I\'m really excited about getting started and understand all too well about lag and bugs since I\'ve done beta testing for other game in the past. Since I like to play characters that tend to be loners but like helping others this sounds like a great place to plant some roots!

i have a question you obviously havent heard before. i found a crystal in the temple, but when i right clicked on it nothing happened (yes the name came up on my screen) can someone please tell me whether this is a bug and if so what to do about it

Oh, i think its a \"ghost\" crystals. That happans often. Sometimes they stay there for days. Noone can pick it up.

Umm... is this question about the graphics and stuff for everybody to answer or just Mogura?
I\'d give PS a 9 and a half for the graphics because it is extremely good for a pre-alpha and quite good for almost finished game(very-very good but not perfect[aww :D]).
For how interesting it is i would give it 10 because you can go anywhere (if you have the skills :P) because sometimes you can go through some walls if you do something, climb walls and jump on roofs also of the potential gameplay of this game(as Mogura said) :D and we can make friends to other people and chat.
PS: nice FAQ Mogura very useful for me and it should be for other people too

OK this may sound really retarded but i found that when u walk up to the top of the bar. You may not be able to or dont want to tell me. I found a building across from me that has a diamond on every corner and there is five of them. Some guy got to it and collected them all before i could get to it. I wasnt able to jump over to it and im not sure if he was cheating or somthing but it wa s strange! Can u help me?

1. If i create a new character will those rubies go with me or will they be gone?
2. Some guy on here said that the database will be erased and that we will lose all our work is that true?

1. of course you will lose your rubies! would you want someone to create a new char with all your rubies on it?

Yes, the database will be wiped for CB. You will be able to exchange your crystals for Tria (money) for your character in Crystal Blue.
Or at least, we hope. :P

Yes, because the next version of PlaneShift uses a completely different way of handling things the complete database will be wiped.
47. Will I lose all my crystals, my weapons, my character name and guild on the release of CB?
Since all player accounts/guilds will be deleted, you will lose everything. However there will probably be a script that will transfer your account to the Crystal Blue database, convert all your rubies to trias and will reserver your guildname(if you\'re a guild leader). Xordan has also written a script to sell your weapons back to the merchant on the website so you won\'t lose all the money you spend in them.
48. Where are all those NPC\'s you talked about, I can only find * of them?
Sometimes the NPC server crashes and all(or some) of the NPC\'s dissapear, the only way to get them back is to restart the NPC server wich must be done by a dev. your best chance to reach one of them, is to post a message on the forums like \"NPC\'s are gone\". However, before posting something like this, please make sure you\'re just not looking in the right place and ask some other people in game.

18. What are the system requirements for Planeshift?
Currently there\'s no official word on this, but I would recommend a fairly high-end PC to enjoy Planeshift with as little peformance trouble as possible. This ideally means over 1ghz processor, at least 300mb of RAM (as various people have reported the game\'s memory usage reaching this amount) and a decent graphics card with up-to-date drivers.

First: I am quite a newbie, and therefore found the FAQ greatly enlightening. Thank you, Mogura.
Second: Regarding FAQuestions 27 and 28. For all those out there who used these tips, remember that you will have to re-do them after you use auto-updater. It replaces the modified psclient.cfg with the standard one. Simply readjust it again.

Hi, erm im still downloading the game, the graphics look superb, and all, but like .................... what are we meant to really do in the game except get crystals, land like why buy weapons ( in this version) when there are no monsters?! or is it cause we get to kill things in the later version so it will save us the hassle of buying stuff when everyone is killing za monsters.....
but right now what r we supposedly meant to do????

It doesn\'t take much effort to look around for your answers, really, and I recommend doing a bit more of a search next time ;)
The game is still in pre-alpha stage, so all you can do is collect crystals to buy decorative weapons, solve two quests when the NPCs are available (they often disappear for several days), chat and make friends, roleplay, join guilds, and explore/glitch. It may not seem like much for now, and if it\'s not for you, then you may consider waiting until CB, when more \"game elements\" will be added. However, the community is what keeps people here.
Why buy weapons? There\'s really no reason. I suppose it could have been looked at as a status thing, to show how good of a crystal hunter you are, but now after more than a year even galkards are seen too frequently ;) Weapons can be used for roleplay, too. They will not be saved for CB, although it is said that our character names and crystals will transfer over.

You can only delete your character if that character has somehow become invalid or corrupt in the PS database. Removing an invalid account is covered in this FAQ.
If you created a new account, you should be able to log in with its name and password. If you can\'t, check around the Technical Help forum to see if there\'s any solutions to your problem.

I have yet to start the game up but I will soon enough, I want to help out and the only way to do that is read read read then play play play :]

Look around... Read the main website... There will be combat in the next release. Just be patient.
Kudos for posting in the right place, you won\'t beleive the number of people who say \"wehre 1s t3h c0mb4t?!?!\" in the middle of, say, forum requests.

download all 5 stages of the game.. (including the put me together one) then run the put me together one. and then create your character.. choose your race.. and options or click quick creation and login..

Ok i am having the problem of: when i downloaded all of the files and put them all in the same folder, it worked and everything installed, but then after i go to the setup and save that, i run the game and i make a character and i hit upload, it says this server is not running, or is not reacting, please check the website or forums for more info. help pelase! my friend got the game to work, why cant i!?

Search the Technical Help forums, Deadlyone. You might have a firewall/router blocking traffic. Maybe you didn\'t type the correct server address.
A simple (http://www.planeshift3d.com/wbboard/images/ps/top_suche.gif) (http://www.planeshift3d.com/wbboard/search.php?boardid=1) will reveal the solution. :)

Okay then, do you have a firewall or router?
If yes, then you must allow UDP traffic access through port 13331. If you don\'t know how to do this, consult your firewall/router documentation. If you don\'t know if you have a firewall/router, you probably don\'t have one (unless your ISP does, in which case there\'s nothing you can do).
If no, then make sure the server field says: \"planeshift.fragnetics.com\" (no quotes) in the login screen. You can also try using the server\'s IP address instead of name: 203.81.47.74
You may also find you have a Database error. There is a sticky thread in Technical Help that explains what to do in that case.

All skin files for characters are located in your PlaneShift directory, in /art/textures/races/
So you can edit those files to change your appearance. :)

Nope, as long as you havn\'t had the game running the whole time you edited the files, they should show changes the next time you play.
If you edited the files whilst having the game running in the background, you must log out/in to see the changes.
Note that there are 4 different skin files for each race. Your character may be using any combination of them for skin, clothes, and eyes. For example, your skin may be using file 1, whereas your clothes are using file 4, and your eyes using file 2. Thus, note which files you\'re using (easy to tell; just look at the colours), and edit those files.

In Molecular Blue you can have as many as you want, but there\'s not really any reason to do so unless you have more than one roleplaying character. :)
In Crystal Blue you are limited to one account, which holds space for 4 individual characters. I\'m pretty sure that it is limited, as you have to sign up the account with your email address, and I think Venge or Talad said only one account will be allowed. But I don\'t know for sure, so ask them. :P

If you\'re asking \"how to open doors\", that question is covered in the FAQ. Any doors not already open cannot be opened, thus you cannot enter that building.
