I read the thread where someone said \"you either experience choppy gameplay or it runs as smooth as a baby\'s be-hind.\" Well...I\'m experiencing the choppier side...really choppy. I have a 1.6ghz AMD Athlon XP and Nvidia Geforce ASLYUM 64mb vid card and I didn\'t expect any problems...Is there any way to make the game less choppy? I tried turning the sound/music off and putting the game in a lower resolution, but that didn\'t seem to help much. Will the game be less \"choppy\" in the future?

lol see the thing is is that it is not yet suited for all kinds of specs. What i mean is that look at my comps specs:
551 mhz P3
32mb ATI Rage Fury
256mb RAM
20 gb HD
56k dial up
These are pretty bad specs too, well at least the cpu is, but i run PS fine mos tof the time and i barely get lag.
see you almost triple me in cpu, you double me in graphics card mb, and im not sure about the last 3 but only the amount of ram really matters out of those 3. BTW how much RAM do you have? Memory is very very important! I think to run smoothly you need atleast 192 or 256mb.
Now about the settings, run in full screen mode, this way windows does not have to create a window so it doesn\'t have to take any memory, that is good. Make sure it is in opengl mode, and like 16 bit or whatever its called, not 32, heck you might even wanna try 8

Heeey... that looks kinda familiar to me. :D
Seriously though, most of the problem stems from the poor netcode Planeshift uses. Still, it\'s interesting to note that alot of people get better performance on relatively low-end machines, using high-end settings, such as a higher resolution and colour depth. I also agree that fullscreen mode would help, but don\'t try and Alt+Tab. I\'ve heard that crashes the game, sadly.
By the way. Welcome to our world. :)

mooo......gie ....... lol :)
hmm what was i gonna say *presses back button*
oh yea :) well you can press alt+tab but i would only suggest you do that once you are actually in the game, but for the loading screen dont do anything. One bad thing about the loading screen is that my screensaver usually pops up then when you try to move the mouse to get it off it gets all messed up , so you mght also wanna turn off your screensaver unless you wanna sit and wait and jiggle the mouse an inch every couple minutes.....

I have
256mb RAM
80 gb HD
DSL
also... and i am using fullscreen mode! I dont have problems w/ loading times or anything like that, its just SOOO choppy, I\'m thinking about getting some more ram soon...maybe that\'l help. :)

lol see i knew you would like double me in almost all of my specs....... do you know how to put the Frames per second counter thing in?
if not place this in your PSclient.cfg file
System.PlugIns.iBugPlug = crystalspace.utilities.bugplug
Also i tried this and it seemed to work a lil:
instead of
; Video Driver
System.PlugIns.iGraphics3D = crystalspace.graphics3d.opengl
make it
; Video Driver
System.PlugIns.iGraphics3D = crystalspace.graphics3d.direct3d
im not sure how much improvment it does but it seemed to help for me

THX Iamthom!!! That seemed to help at least some.
I get 90fps!!!! (in the loading screen)
I get 11-14fps (standing still)
and I get 4-10 fps (walking)
Whenever I jump, turn or run my fps seems to dip below 5 fps or so though :(...

lol! When I\'m in the loading screen I get 1241 fps :D and considering it acts as if its frozen I consider myself lucky.. must be a bug somewhere :P
-
lol what part of it helped?
anyway, i get around 126 while loading and around 8-10fps in town , 3 if looking at temple or plaza, and 12-16fps if im outside and looking at the grss+hills

Anyway, what would (and I stress that would) be the recommended System Reqs?
My system:
AXP 1800+
512 333Mhz DDR RAM
40 Gb ATA 100 HDD
ATi Radeon 9500/128Mb VRAM (non pro edition)
OS: Red Hat Linux 9 with ALSA sound drivers and latest ATi FireGL drivers (2.9.13) for linux.
All I can say is that my system runs SSSLLLOOOWWW... gonna try that fps counter though :)
Any idea on the progress to BETA statge :) (I know we are still in pre-alpha, but... I like to dream :)
-
Well I just wanna add that after turning the FPS counter on, without looking to the Temple or the Plaza directly I get an average of 24-32fps standing still... but I get like 1.5-7fps while walking in the Plaza area... Alas getting out of there gets me like 35-40... What I don\'t understand, thoguh is that the game froze when I approached the entrace to the Temple. Odd.
