I was just wondering, as are others, when planeshift is finally going to be completed. Now I know there have been other discussions about this but I personnally would like to know when it is really going to come out. I mean there could be things slowing the process or speedening it. I honostly don\'t know. Please if you have any info on this then please respond to this thread or to:

Sincerely,
CHRONOK
Thank-you

maybe 2-3 yrs..... , the game is only in pre alpha right now, and the next release is crystal blue and maybe in december, but thats not the final release.... not even close!
-
Indeed... I\'ve heard a rough idea that it will be completed in 14+ months time, but I personally don\'t think that can be right... not for a game with so much in promise as Planeshift. I\'d say 2-3 years also.
-
hmm, yes. 2-3 years sounds reasonable.
Moogie: That idea could be when the next build comes out, after CB?
-
I assume so. Hey, I\'m sure you\'ve noticed a trend in the naming of each new release (Atomic, Molecular, Crystal). Any ideas what future versions will be named?
-
2 years MAX!! 1-2 years have I heard from developers.
-
Maybe, but not even developers can know these things for sure.
2-3 sounds good to me. Though i wouldn\'t object if they finished it earlier. ;)
EDIT: btw, name for releases after CB? What about Diamond Blue?
-
or Aquamarine blue?
-
Well lets say that the game would be finished in 3 years, that would meen that some people had worked for 5 years on this project, that is pretty much for a non-profit game.
And by 3 years the market will swarm with 3d MMORPGs (not free but they will surely make up a good way to pay and not so expensive as it\'s now).
Even a free game must have a tight deadline IMO.
I would preferre 1-2 years and then when it\'s finished maybe have a year of adding fetueres to maintain the game.
-
are you guys kidding, everyone knows the name of the release after crystal........ of course its Berry Blitz ....... i mean come on who doesn\'t know that.... :D
-
Well they certainly have a lot of ppl cheering them on,
My estimate 6yrs.
(because they\'ll keepworking on it that long, I hope)
No it\'s quark blue of course! :P
-
My standard reply is that Planeshift will be done right about the time that Linux is done. :-)
-
Yep, that makes perfect sense, due to the nature of the game (the open-sourceness and all) people can constantly make add-ons to the game even when it\'s done and playable. And by add-ons I mean something like a person (or a small team) making a whole dungeon with monsters and secrets and stuff and then submiting it and if it looks good putting it up in the game and then if people like it you keep it! I\'d assume that\'s what the devs have in mind anyway.
-
Logically the next release will be elephant blue. Think about it:
Atom = Really small
Molecule = Slightly bigger (2 or more atoms put together)
Crystal = A lot bigger (Lots of molecules put together)
Elephant = Ginormous (Too big to be measured in atoms even)
This also makes sense because elephants are blue.
-
Your logic hits me like a slap in the face. :]
-
I thought elephants were grey ?(
-
when did the development of this game begin
-
Over a year ago now. I don\'t rightly know exactly when it started... perhaps that information is available somewhere on the website.
-
Planeshift has been around for quite some time. More than 3 years

Elephant blue is nice, indeed ! :P
What about Planet Blue ? Ok it\'s still bigger than an elephant, but it leads the way to Solar System Blue, Galaxy Blue and ...
... why blue btw ? Where does it come from ?
Bah, don\'t pay attention to my ramblings

CadRipper whilst we\'re into the superlatives of course Infinity Blue. Fits in well with the LINUX idea and never ending growth, talk about dyamism!
What I\'ve thought about is wether it would be possible to write a programme that programming novices (or non-existants) could use to develop areas or places (buildings etc) within the PS milieu in order to submit it for considerations. A sort of WYSIWYG for PS?
Any comments Vengeance or am I day dreaming here?
-
yeah - an editor of some sort would be great - but since that probably wont happen - wolfman you should get wings 3d http://www.wings3d.com it is a very easy to use 3d editor (ok so not too easy but hey I\'ve never edited/programmed before and I can use it in the most basic sense so...) You should be able to hammer out city concepts with that in no time (well maybe a little time) ... but I\'m afraid I have no clue how to render (color/light) it
-

Yes you are dreaming.
-
ROFL... Venge I could have sworn that Moogie said that you were dreaming in this thread... did you replace her message with yours?
-
No... that did not happen... you are imagining... Venge is our friend... *walks away in a zombie-like state*
-
I would imagine that some enterprising developer might come up with an app like that if there was enough demand for it. It doesn\'t have to be the PS team you know. This thing is open source so all it needs is someone to takle the job. I would consider it perhaps... hmm.... I shall have to think on this.

I couldn\'t stop laughing after that...

Zaphar we would all really appreciate that - you can get the Crystal Space (Planeshift\'s 3d engine) here if you need it: http://crystal.sourceforge.net/drupal/
I don\'t mean to place the burden on you - I would just love to see anyone make a landscape editor!
-
I really don\'t care when Planeshift comes out, just as long as it does!! I\'d hate to see all that hard work go to waste! I\'ve seen alot of free MMORPGs get scrapped because there are just so many problems! You don\'t get money from it, servers need to be kept up, a community needs to be reassured, and you have a life. That all adds up you know, but since its free source I guess it could get picked up by another team. This is not to say that the current team isn\'t totally awesome =D
-
I think a landscape editor would be a good idea, it would give the players who work so hard \"testing\" this game the chance to have some input.
I like Cadripper\'s idea for Planetary Blue, Galactic Blue etc, and when the game is finished it could be Infinite Blue!
-
Infinity Blue is actually (c) 2003 by Wolfmane. Definitely better than Screen Blue, which is (c) anytime by Microsoft.
And since it will be finished when Linux is, we\'ll all have mind-controlled keyboards and/or computers, isn\'t that great ? ;)
Still no clue about the blue part ?
-
ROFL @ cadripper!
What is the deal with the blue? Maybe they just like the colour?
-

The \'blue\' idea started with this post by Keldorn -> evidently his idea was held in high esteem so no one has disputed the \'blue\' part, but they forgot the order -> atmoic, molecular, crystal... elephant is not next after crystal :P
-
Are you guys kidding? Everybody knows that after Crystal Blue comes Niberius Blue 8)
-
Drilixer: I already run a copy of the engine on my machine and have been looking over the source :-)
-
hehe - i thought about that afterwards... if your capable of making a landscape editor - there is no reason for me to have to tell you what engine PS uses :P
-
Why start with atomic blue?
Going up the scale (From least to greatest)
Why not:
Planck length blue
Muon blue
Quark Blue
Electron Blue
Proton, then finally Atomic Blue...
...Or starting from Atomic Blue we get to Molecular, Crystal, Cat (Dunno why), Planet, Solar System, Galaxy, Galaxy Cluster, Super Cluster, Observable Universe, Universe, Local Metaverse, Total Metaverse, Local Reality Sphere Blue... yada yada yada
How many updates are planned before commercial release anyway?
-
don\'t want to brake the brainstorming here but.....what about waiting for the developpers to publish the name lol ; )

hehe - it\'s a little late for atomic blue lol... unless you want the devs to use it again :)
-
Quantum blue is THE name!

Yea... I can\'t wait to test my new Quantum multidimensional computer as well by this time. Hope my 512 yottabyte RAM will be enough to support Planeshift when this happens :D

no offence you guys, but I think Linux will outlive Planeshift

Well, arn\'t we optimistic? Show some trust in the devs... all they seem to hear is people arguing against ideas that they\'ve decided on, *coughPVPcough*, or people saying \"this\'ll never work\" and \"it will be dead in a few months\".
We should be giving them the moral encouragement they need to carry on working on a project like this. It\'s one of the main reasons why they bother- that and the satisfaction of seeing their dream come to life.
I know for a fact the effect it can have on people hearing negative feedback on something they\'ve worked so hard on. And even though you may be right in what you say, Drilixer, I don\'t think they need to hear it.
If we truely want PlaneShift to succeed as they do, let\'s show them. We love this world too, we want to see it develop and grow too, ya? :)
Wow... you inspired debate in me! I didn\'t think I had it in me today, I\'ve only just recovered from a migrane I had a few hours ago...
-
\"kumby YA!! my lord kumbaya!!!\" oh god I\'m glad I got that out of my system no *claps hands together* lets all give the devs a group hug! group hug is in order here people!
No no I was just being realistic when i said linux would outlive PS, but we are supposed to criticize at this stage of the game arnt we? I mean this is pre-alpha... now if we are still pullin hair in gold (will this game EVER go gold - serious question? or will it just go gold-plated or something) THEN the devs could get discouraged...
-
No matter what Drilixer says, I take 348 posts in a single week as a compliment. :-)
- Venge
-
thanks Venge, I think...
I\'m afraid you were right though once when you said I would calm down in posting so much - but really it\'s not me that has calmed down - no one else is posting enough to cover up my replys and give me something to respond too! I really hope I can become a dev just so that I\'ll have a better way to contribute to the game and be able to use the \"that\'s not Planeshift\" responce officially :)
