Post by: Sleekfire on July 15, 2003, 04:18:39 pm
i\'ve been on this game for a while now but i go on and off every month just to see if anything\'s new.  now that we finally got 1 quest things are gettin started.  i have one question though and that is will this game ever go pay to play in the future if so then i wont spend so much time on if it is because of past games.

PS: hey ever1 hope to see you all in the game

Due to the overwhelming anti-p2p sentiment, I think it\'s safe to say that it\'ll stay free...At least until they\'re finished developing it. So another few years. ;)

It had better be free, or else a good deal of the community would leave (like me).  The whole reason many of us are here is because we don\'t have the money, or don\'t have access to a credit card, etc...

exactly monketh, i would leave also, although i think if we had to buy the game for a one time fee that would still be ok for me but i would still like it free (sorta like warcraft, 50 bucks to buy game but online its free :D )

Hmm the problem is that pas a certain number of players the bandwidth cost, elctricity and hardware maintenance cost  might become a problem, I am not sure a one time fee could be enough to cover all these.

But if i understand correctly the server is sponsored by fragnetics, and is hosting not only planeshift but also FPS (as in CS, Q3 ...) servers, so they presumably have a respectable bandwidth available. How they get it though is another question :)

(btw I also prefer if it is free, and could go with a one time payment )

I know of a possibly perfect solution to this problem, although I was looking to discuss it privately with an admin. However, I\'ve yet to find a suitable way to do this...

It\'s an Open Source game so it will be free forever!! (even if they decide to don\'t make it open source anymore everything will still be on sourceforge)

even if it was still on sourceforge it woulnt do any good, at the current point of the game no one would want to play it as an actual game, right now its basically a interactive chat room.

\"no one would want to play it as an actual game\"

Why is it then that there\'s over fifty thousand registered users to date, hundreds of regular players and as many as 20-30 players online every single day? If we didn\'t want to play it, we wouldn\'t be here.

[Edit: Deleted a whole chunk of text here. I think I got mixed up on the topic of the thread... that happens when you\'re trying to post in several different places at once :D]
