Title: Shut Off Game Problem
Post by: Eric_The_Confused on July 20, 2003, 11:45:52 pm
Ok, I just downloaded the game about 2 hours from writing this message.  I created a character without any problems. I tried to connect and had no problem there.  Then it started loading the game and was loading the world for a long time.  That\'s where it stops completely.  It starts initializing the world then after about 10-20 minutes of loading the game shuts off without starting.  Help me plz!!!!!

One more thing. One board says how to make the game fullscreen.  Well that line doesn\'t exist in that file.

the file mentioned in that board is wrong -> the file you want is video.cfg

It is found in Planeshift/date/config/video.cfg

Make sure you have the latest drivers for your graphics-card, and, run the updater.

Well, you can go to your graphics-cards homepage. Nvidia (http://www.nvidia.com) or ATI (http://www.ati.com), nvidia is geforce and ATI is radeon. :)

Are you sure you have enough virtual memory?

I have the same problem with you too.  I updated everything that is connected to PS, but mine still shuts off too.  About the virtual memory, doesn\'t your computer free some space in your virtual memory.  That\'s what my computer did to mine.

It depens, since there are different kind of RAM. I have 512mb dual DDR RAM (2*256mb), which is more than enough. I think that 128 might be a to little, and I would advise you to buy atleast one more 128mb stick.

The virtual memory thread can be found here (http://www.planeshift3d.com/wbboard/thread.php?threadid=4712&boardid=17&styleid=3).

Good luck fixing this guys, it must be incredibly annoying!

The PS client eats up about 300 MB of virtual memory (for Iamthom  ;) ), maybe more sometimes. About half of this (or a little less) is willing to stay in physical memory on the motherboard. Of course, this could change from one configuration to another, it\'s just the case for me without any exhaustive tests.

Which means you will probably have a lot of swapping on your computer. But I am not sure enough and don\'t want to discourage you : try and run it to see by yourself.

The OS you are using may also need more or less memory, depending on its version and the settings. XP is quite hungry, usually.

Are you sure the amount of memory you are talking about is on the motherboard ? Or is it the memory of the graphic card ?
