Title: drinking
Post by: Heaume on July 25, 2003, 12:28:04 am
it would be cool if beer could be bought and drunk. When will you be able to buy beer?

Only if you are above the legal drinking age, which would differ, depending on the country you are from, which brings up to a complex set of problems, and the fall of communism. ;(

hahah how are you going to steal bear?  its not like you can pickpocket in planeshift - but its even less likely that a DWARF will ever be able to pickpocket with those stubby little fingers in any game!

Post by: Heaume on July 25, 2003, 07:16:22 am
well, i thought there was pickpocketing on the custom creation when you first start... if there will be ill do it. (as long as tehres no guards)

Speaking of beer, if you go into a tavern would you be able to actually have your character sit down and drink beer. I mean, more importantly sitting down. The thing I dislike about MMORPGs (or RPGs in general) is that everyone is standing! They should have sitting, crouching, lying down.. and not only that, but like crying! Well, actually if there was crying it would probably get out of hand... haha I\'m just mumbling now

alot of games have \'emotes\' to do that sort of thing Shinji - but the interface is usually so cumbersome or the actions so short (such as crying for 5 seconds and then stopping) that people rarely use them

I think we (by we, I mean the dev team, of course) should develop that kind of function. It\'d be nice if you could walk up to a bench or whatever, type /sit, and you sit down on the bench.  I played Ragnarok Online for a little while, when it was free beta or whatever, and there was a sit command, which was cool because it was different sitting for each class, but it\'d be nice if we could expand upon that.  I dunno, I suppose I\'m just rambling on.

I\'d rather there be a button that you press and a screen full of pictures of what an emote does is displayed and then you just click the picture you want - and of course they would have to be hotkeyable

EDIT: the list of emotes would have to show ALL of them on one page and not the annoying scrolling invoolved in NWN

Drix, how much work would be involved just to have a character sit? And also for emotions?

It shouldnt be too hard - it\'s just a matter of the animators assigning the particular motions for the \'skeleton\' of the characters and then for the programmers to implement it - if my idea of an interface is used then the 2d artists will also need to chip in.

If you get too drunk, everything you type to talk will turn into wierd mumblings.

That\'ll be fun..

Edited for language.
Title: Tolerance
Post by: SnowWolf on August 20, 2003, 06:50:39 am
Your tolerance to alcohol should be a stat somewhere - it be cool to have to raise your tolerance to drink certain concoctions - especially if they were for healing in battle.

Imagine being some thin elf with a low body weight and tolerance and in battle they drink some nice elven wine from home - get drunk and fall asleep. Then the Dwarf who\'s hacking away at the mob is like \"Damn elven newbies, can\'t hold their liquor\" *takes a giant swig from a large leather flask on his belt*

:)

of course they are but theyll probly need to be different like in daoc they tapdanced when you chose dance in ps there should be like a defferent type of dance. You really cant change anything like wave though hehe 8)

yeah - we would definately be able to use any emotes that we choose to no matter what the animation... I would love to see a company try to copyright \'3d salsa dancing\' or \'3d waving\'... that would be a riot... and then maybe we could sue them for infringing on our right to freedom of speech as described by the United States (for us lawsuit happy Americans)and the United Nations...
