MMORPGs usually revolve around battling, and more recently weapon/armor smithing, and also shop keeping. However, when I play a MMORPG (or even regular RPGs for that matter) I tend to get tired of the same killing of monsters, weapon smithing, bartering.. and instead I just want to spend a little time doing something fun with friends. And in that, I ask for one (perhaps two) things that would be fun in PS but not essential. This could maybe take the form of a trading card game, animal raising(I don\'t like it, but maybe some do), fishing... just something that takes the tension off trying to get stronger, and just having a little bit of fun.
-
\"Animal raising\" ... sounds like \"Pokemoning\" :D
Seriously, i agree with you, people should post their ideas on this thread so that we have some funny things to do ingame.
-
First of all one thing in game that I have to say I find highly disturbing: marriages and eating as long as those two primal sins of sane gaming are left out of Planeshift I\'ll be one happy monkey!
Now what would my character like to do in this game beyond adventuring and fighting... making money... pking oh scratch that one... OH! pickpocketing... nope not that one...
Ahha! racing those big flyong creature things that we\'ve been promised! We better be able to race those things in an official atmosphere. With NPC controlled races etc etc... that would be awesome (and make your monster training idea more feasible... ) can you imagine showing up at a local nOOb level race with your pet Silver Dragon? muahahaha
-
Hope you will become a very sad monkey then...
Some fun activities to do while you\'re not saving the world/doing your daily work.
*Playing cards.
*Watching duels at the arena.
*Bow-competitions.
*Bar-fights.
*Spar against your friends (skill involved)
*DM-activities (festivals, marriage, competitions etc.)
*Casinos and/or lotteries.
*Bet on lizards (like horse racing)
*shopping (souvenirs, clothes, books, addons to your house etc.)
*Restaurants where you can sit down and eat/drink.
*Library.
more to come...
-
you\'d think people don\'t like wading their Kran warrior through swarms of demons flailing their club right and left... but uh ae you going to restrict some of theese activites because I just don\'t see some races (Krans in particular) out playing marbles... Besides we don\'t want Planeshift to become a \'party game\' like those detestable Mario Console Party things
-
Besides we don\'t want Planeshift to become a \'party game\' like those detestable Mario Console Party things
First I must say that not everyone share your view about those \"detestable\" as you call them, Mario Console Party things. I think the idea is great, for many reasons.
Heh, you\'re like an old man who cannot accept that there is other people with other opinions than himself.
Why do you care so much about people who marry each other?
Does that affect you? No! So why are you so agains it?

first of all: the marriage thingy - I\'ve had at least 4 marriage proposals in the last week and a half...
As for the disrespect for other\'s oppions: Damn straight I\'m a conservative (no compassionate in there)
-
Hey, Marbles! That was a good idea, Drilixer! It would actually be amusing to see a few Krans doing that. As for the marraige thing, how about we just RP that, and avoid giving it in game benefits? And what\'s wrong with a few side games? People get sick of fighting all the time, and a distraction is welcome on occasion.
-
I think they should put in a really fun mini-game that everyone will like, that wont offend anyone :)) ! It won\'t ever be frustrating because it wouldn\'t matter in the bigger picture, but everyone will do it for fun while they\'re fed-up with levelling.
It will be easy to learn and fun no matter how long you do it. It will have enjoyable stuff along with the challenging and exciting parts :D .
^^^^^^^
(Can\'t think of anything.)
-
hehe.. seriously though..
I wonder if some of the happier cities could have \'fairground\' complexes.
They could work much like they do in real life. Rides, but more importently lots of caravans with (arrow) shooting ranges, ball/hoop throwing, fishing, anything else. The prizes could get better and better limited only by your skill, but all the games would need a few trias to play.
Some people would get really good at them to the point where it\'s actually a legitimate way for them to get good items/wealth. Then we would have true-to-form arcade junkies in-game :D
-
*bashing face against wall* now that you\'ve posted a paragraph of your dream game while not describing a single aspect of it - why not just drop the idea of mini-games for the time being - they wont be implemented for at least a couple years anyways :P
-
I do it just for your frustration pleasure, Drixiler ;) :D
-
I agree with Fanomatic2000 and shinji completely who wouldnt want to do some of these things like watching a great duel in the arena and cheering on your friend or sit down in a bar and eat this would provide good features for roleplayers. Im sure there will be fishing also. Buying souveniers and bar-fights will also be good for roleplaying afterall thats what more than half of the people will be roleplaying anyway. To me these arent minigames but cardgames and bow competitions are.
-
An example of how a card game could work is Arcomage from 3D0\'s Might & Magic Series. As for other mini-games they gave that ago in Might & Magic IX and it was disappointing although I bet it could be done better.
-
Oh they also did the dueling and watching duels side of it to which was quite good. You get charged a small amount to watch a duel but taking part is free.
To take part you select the level of your opponent (in PS you could fight NCP\'s or other players) and enter the arena where you would fight to the death then return and collect prize money on the level of the fight.
P.S. In game betting would be a good feature in PS
-
The card game in Final Fantasy IX ruled. Hugely. I got so obsessed with it I forgot where I was in the game and had to start over. But they said no cards in the world so I guess not. It was still really cool though...

that is exactly why any mini-game that are develloped will be just that: MINI - nothing can be put into the game that shadows the dev\'s real work - that includes food and manditory eating :P
-
I love this thread, so many good ideas.
\"*Restaurants where you can sit down and eat/drink. \"
This would work if...
A:Waiters are NPC\'s
and
B:Cooks make a stock of foods for the waiters to serve

lol, if they do that they should release it as a commercial stand alone game, and they would get enough money from it to develop PS for 30 years :-D
about marriage : they can be good if they are really roleplayed, but what happens most of the time is that people wants to marry anyone without even knowing them...
mini-games : yup, that would be a great idea, not a priority of course, but I think there should definitely be a few of them in PS.

good idea... dont include offical marriages.. instead include an option to change your name so that you and your roleplaying wife (who is actually a grotesque fat man out in Cincinatti who refuses to bathe and considers \'scratching\' to be an important \'pass-time\') can just change your last names so that you are married... you can then cyber-#$*@ to your heart\'s desire...

Stuff that I\'d like to see to make the game more fun:
- Swordplay (duels)
- Bar Fights (good idea Fanomatic)
- Partys
- Gambling
- Placing Bets on Duels
- Maybe a Gladiator stadium where you fight
monsters? :P
Seems like a lot to ask but would be cool.
-
raisong animals would be cool. like racing sheep :)

I like the animal raising idea. Maybe each animal could have a different stat and can compete in different \"pet\" events.
Several I can think of...
1. Racing (involves stamina/constitution and dexterity)
- Might seperate into swimming, running, flying, and such)
2. Fighting (strength and dexterity, intelligent if your pet uses magic, accuracy if the pet uses range attack)
3. Weight lifting (strength)
4. Maze running (intelligent, and maybe luck if there\'s such stat)
and others.
-
Excuse me, I\'d like to butt in here and inform you that the last post in this thread was on august 8 of last year. Unless a thread is very specific (like a new-fangled idea about animal training) you should not re-open it unless you think you have something major to contribute to the thread.

How about adding in musical insterments, like harmonicas and guitars. As you guy plays them he/she/it gets better at it. You can add in some wired race spacific ones too, just to add some personallity.

Just a few little things to pass by that i would like in-Game
-------------------------------------------------------------
LIST:
1:seats you can ACTUALLY sit down on.. (great for chatting with friends at the tavern or wherever)
2:COMPLETLY customizable Characters (from the smiles to the muscles)
3:More Realizem to the game (Transparent Windows, Different Clothing)
4:Alternate Music for each area (able to choose a song)
5:Types of Ground Transportation (horses and ECT.)
6:Snowy Winters (Snows instead of rain and leaves snow on the grpund) *or an easy way: release a version that just has a wintery feel to it*
7: BETTER CHARACTER MOVEMENTS! (Improve running &/or Add Imotes/dancing options)
8:make Crystals Worth More
9: Make Empty streets and lots to allow characters to buy and build on lots
10: When Wether Changes Have the Sky Change with it
-------------------------------------------------------------
And thats all i can pull out of the box for now :D

1)I thought they had something one that
2)I guess that would just make way to much lag, coz everyone would have to see you. Too much data.
3)That would be awsome!
4)\"hej, NPC-bartender, put on my favorite song\" :)
5)I dont know for sure that there are transporation now, but there will be flying transportation
6)There have been more threads about that
7)donno
8)Xtals are no more in CB
9)Building skill will be there, or later on.
10) mm, donno bout that
All these answers can be wrong, but Im sure someone ells will get along and correct me :)

How about in taverns u can play chess ^^
-
No chess. It\'s a nice game, but too RL. I don\'t think it\'d be required to have \"official\" mini-games.
I\'d more like to have ppl. be able to do more things with objects, and to have more objects, especially ones that aren\'t important for quests and stuff. Maybe we could sratch things into walls? :D
marriage: I think there should be absolutely no advantage to it, but it should be possible to make it official.
sitting down is a good concept and should be in, it is in RoE, and I really like it. I mean, you can stand on tables IRL, as well if you wish, but... maybe the tavern would have a sign that reads: \"NO STANDING ON FURNITURE\" :)
@ 2) : I think it wouldn\'t be very laggy, because it wouldn\'t involve much additional data transfer. It of course depends on the algorithm that is used, but if you\'d only transfer this extra data when something changes, and only what changed, (apart from the initial transfer), it\'d be no problem IMO, since you\'re not going to change looks in a rapid fasion anyway. It\'d be lower requirement than for i.e. a big fight, since in the fight actions are being taken by almost everyone in rapid succession, whereas even in a big crowded place there\'d only be a small number of changes in emotes, etc., therefore it\'d be feasible IMO.
The problem with musical instruments is that you\'d either have to implement countless songs for each to enable players to actually idly play them, or to have the p?ayers play them personally, which would require skill of the player, which isn\'t good.
I also think that racing shouldn\'t be limited to official races. After all, wouldn\'t you love it to just illegally race through hydlaa? With a pterosaur? Or some ground animal? After all, you\'d be fined if you get caught, but of course you\'d be faster, right? 8) However, this could be bad since it might encourage or glorify illegal racing, which is bad (do I hear GTA or games like this...?). Anyway, so we might have it outside of cities, like cross-country. For this to be interesting, one might consider some randomness and terrain types for speed calculation. This would of course be exactly the same for running after a MOB (or being chased by one), so it should apply to every creature all the time. The randomness isn\'t very important, though.
I, however, would love to see a way to temporarily boost speed / whatever, just as anyone can do IRL. It\'s simply incopmprehensible why one wouldn\'t be running \"full tilt\" when a MOB charges after you... this should drain stamina and result in decreased performance for a while afterwards. Adrenaline (or an equivalent) will also provide such a boost, but maybe even stronger and of greater duration (like until the danger is resolved), but with even more severe penalities afterwards (just as IRL).
It should, however, not result in constant partying or something. Things like this should either be special events or side activities, just as IRL.
And I like fishing. You should, however, be able to hunt fishes as well when swimming and diving, but you should also be able to use nets and the good ol\' fishing rod.

Already implemented, and you can decide how official you want it to be. Big party, small party, big wedding, small wedding. All up to you. You will get a last name change too, by the way.

It shouldn\'t be too difficult to create a node system similar to a guitar or a piano, and then simply let people write songs using a node viewer kind of thing, and play the songs that they write. It just requires that you learn how to control and use the node viewer thing, but that\'s part of the fun. :)

Righty, then! This is what I\'d see as appropriate. It\'d not be abusable for powerlevelling, but its useful for RP, so it\'s all I\'d deem necessary.

There goes the option to have bards available to anyone! :D After all, I couldn\'t say \"look, I\'m the great Seytra, and my ballads, full of feelings and emotion, travel the world\" if I can\'t even create three consecutive notes that don\'t sound ugly. :) But anyway, maybe I\'ll ust RP it, then, without actually playingthese instruments. Or I\'ll be a Kran, then I can always say: \"it\'s got to be that way!\" :D

How about that you could just sit down where you want and when you want..
for example:
You find a beautiful spot somewhere near a cliff and you just want to sit and relax.. I would love that!
-
ideas...
Marathon from Hydlaa Plaza to Ojaveda.
Change arena more to a gladiator style games. Maybe some kinda system where you could have player vs player, group vs group, player vs group, player against npc\'s....
A betting system on fights in the arena.
Tournaments
Bring crystal spawning back.
One insanely strong mob (maybe in deathrealm) that we can mass kamikaze on, give it one nice item to make it worth the effort. (I used to love doing kamikaze runs on frobozz the shopkeeper)

...and I seriously asked myself why you were so against eating. Now that you told us you got *four* attempts to marry you by this especially fat man from Cincinatti... Yep, that would end my appetites on anything for a while as well.
As I\'m marrried in RL, I tend to share your objections, anyway. Eating is something to consider in RL, though.
Besides this, the other mini-game I actually hate is Camping. And the grind of levelling in general.
But there are so many mini-games that can be played in-game without devs have to work on it too much.
In i.e. Diablo(tm) I especially liked the golem-duels. Everyone summoned one up while no mobs around, and after three or four rounds of stone-bashing, the winner is determined.
We could do the same with rats, if Players got a spell to summon them, which shouldn\'t be to hard to implement even yet.
Well, I\'m actually a bit tired, and running out of serious ideas... <*ragnar-gd walking away, falling onto a bed with a thud, starting to snore*>

sleep..pshaw who needs it...
anyways
1)a casino for dice, a card game etc...(with other players not Npc\'s)
2) races in swimming, running etc.(of course this would require skills giving varied ability in these types of things)
just my two trias

Alcohol is always a good substitute for fun.
