Sorry I know I should post this in the cities wishlist but this post would be too long and just take up too much space for that thread.
P.S: I just got back from Las Vegas so I had about 4 hours to think what I was going to post in this thread.
Name: Star\'s Point
Population: All races
Services: Gambling, winning money, winning prizes, winning special weapons, winning special armours, winning rare items, and a change to strike it rich.
Level: Very top level
Settings/History: Peasants and people who were less wealthy complained to the gods that they weren\'t getting a fair chance to live in wealth. After complaining and complaining to gods finally tried an idea they had planned to calm the people in poverty down. They created a city called Star\'s Point which is located on the very top level. This place was opened up and peasants stormed the place like crazy. Only a few struck it rich other\'s regretted of having this placed opened but couldn\'t complain because they got what they asked for. People who lost all their money complained to the Gods once more to ask them to close this place down. But the Gods rejected their thoughts and feelings and left this place opened to the people. So from that day on people rich or poor have tried their luck into striking it big or acquiring rare items.
Architecture: Just think of it kinda like Las Vegas tons of lights and night, always busy busling with people, and pteosaurs always flying over the city. The buildings and hotels would be sky high almost to the roof of the ceiling of the cavern.
Housing: You could rent a hotel room for a fairly descent price and just stick around the city to check out the sites, meet people, and try to win items. In the room you rent you could store your stuff in a lock, so your stuff would be safe while you leave your hotel room and check out the city.
Gambling Style #1: I gave this a good thought. Well some people want Pk\'ing right? So what if you could bet on a 1 on 1 duel on who would win? You could bet how much you want this person to win and the people dueling would be real human players fighting each other for fame.
\"How do we bet?:\" First, off your always betting against the house in arena fighting, all player bets would be between players and there\'s no guarentee that he will pay up so if you don\'t get your money, you can\'t complain to an NPC that so and so hasn\'t paid you. Anyways, 10 Minutes before a fight starts there would be a small counter that says place your bets and an NPC will ask you \"Please place your bet on will win this next fight.\" So you place your bet and the NPC will accept the amount you bet for and you watch the fight. If the person you bet for lost, then you lose your money, if the person you bet for won, then you win money.
\"Winnings:\" If you lose, then you lose the money you bet. If you win, then you get the amount of money you originally bet for plus 10%. I was going to say double but if you double it you might get rich fast, so it wouldn\'t be fair.
Gambling Style #2: This type of Gambling would be bet around Pteosaur racing. Like horse racing except with Pteosaurs.
\"The Race:\" The race would consist of seven pteosaurs each controlled by a real human player, whoever finishes the course first wins. Different courses would be available from easy courses to advacned courses.
\"Winnings:\" Again your betting against the house, so you personal bets are within your own judgement. You always win your money back plus 1.5x the amount of the money you bet. The money that could be gained is substantially more because there\'s a greater chance of losing. If you lose you don\'t get anything.
Gambling Style #3: Small games like a card game, dice, or a game where personal bets are encouraged and is protected by an NPC.
\"Winnings:\" You get how much by how much you bet and how much other players bet. If you lose you dont\' get anything.
Can you buy a hotel: I say no. You can\'t buy a hotel that\'s already been there but you can build your own hotel. With your hotel there are no restrictions by any NPCs, it is either ran by you or a guild. You or the guild could hire players that are architects to help build your own hotel and host your own arena fights or pteosaur racing events. Instead of having NPCs taking care of the bets, you could have people you want running the bets and keeping track of all the betting and everything that goes on.
Cost to build: I suggest that hotel development would cost in the millions of tria. The best way for a hotel to be built is if it was a guild own hotel because more people can help contribute financial support needed for a project of this magnitude. You would most likely have to hire architects for building the hotel, carpenters for furniture, chefs for cooking, private security (human players hire or from the guild that made the hotel).
Cost to maintain: There should be a very large taxation on a player or guild owned casino because their revenue \"if they were successful,\" would be huge so the gods would have to tax the hotel, if they don\'t want to pay, the gods will crumble it to a pile of dust.
Ways to make money: Keep it exciting, give people free stuff who play gamble at your hotel all the time. Do lots of stuff just to make it look like lots of different things are going on all the time. Have rare items that people want to win, so they keep trying to win that item, and the sametime betting money at your hotel, so you can reap the profits of other people.
Can it be shut down: Of course it can :), if you dont pay tax it gets destroyed by the gods. If the hotel sucks and the gods see that your hotel is going down the gutter, they will give you a weeks notice to take everything apart and scrap all the materials you need or want to try to sell it, if you don\'t do that in time whatever is left, the gods will again crumble it to the ground.
Other stuff to do at either NPC owned hotel or Human player or guild owned hotel: Guilds can rent large spaces for their guild events, people could get married at a hotel if they rent the space out, or take a break from traveling a lot.
Thanks and yes it is a long post: if you read it all, thanks.
oh yeah by the way, if there was stuff like this it would take a very long time to program, code, and not to mention very complex to achieve, I believe.
-
Yes, it would. But it would be awesome! I back this idea completely. (And I\'m sure my innkeepers (whoever those are)do too.)
(Man it\'s late!)
-
ya I remember somewhere in Planeshift saying, \"Where your dreams and fantasies come true, or something like that.\" Well this idea will make your dreams and fantasies come true.
-
hehe... will Catawba Indians run the bingo parlors too? Their is supposed to be gambling in game but I\'m afraid your idea wouldn\'t be approved since it is so planted in 20th century ideals. Vegas in any form (no matter what the buildings or vehicles are made of - or what the people are wearing) is still Vegas, and for that reason it will never pass the \'Bent on Medieval Setting\' test.
-
drilixer: I don\'t see why it couldn\'t be in the game. even medieval settings had gambling. And bent for medieval setting does not automatically preclude ideas like this. Just because vegas didn\'t exist back then doesn\'t mean it couldn\'t have. Creativity is certainly allowable I would say. Just keep the games medieval based and the architecture and such medieval. We don\'t want slot machines of course.
-
He\'s got a good idea, he just needs to think of a medevil type of gambling, i\'m trying to think of some, but kinda stumpt. Good idea though. :)
-
no - I don\'t think a \'sin\' city really fits into Planeshift I\'m sorry. It doesn\'t matter how much medievel setting you pump into it - anything like that would take up to much game time and is just not really Planeshift in my opinion...
-
Well you dont have to have big casinos, you could have like on the street gambling.
-
but that wouldnt be much a sin city - there will be gambling and medieval games - but the \'sin\' city conspect isn\'t really appropriate... although this is open source you could always make it yourself
-
Ok, i understand a whole city of gambling would not be very \'Medevilish\' but maybe a building down a dark alley with crude gambling.
-
sure, that could be done I\'m sure. Just send a PM to Vengeance or one of the other devs and they will let you know what they think - although such an idea is a long way off.
-
I don\'t think we, the devs, will explicitly make a city like this, but I think if players or a certain guild want to make some gambling games up I don\'t see why they couldn\'t.
-
ha! I am finally getting the hang of the \'good idea but not Planeshift\' quotation
-
Just a question Venge, will we be able to build our own cities?
-
ooh I want to know the answer to this one... but Monketh just a question isnt a city nothing more than a collection of buildings - so if you can build buildings you should be able to organize cities as well
(plus check out my sig ;) )
-
True true! If you have enough buildings, it\'ll become a city sooner or later. :P Anywho, about the duelling gambling thing, we allways have \"The Arena!\" Venge said so himself... :P And it\'ll -MAYBE- be used for tournaments and duels where you can put bets in or something, but mainly it\'s for people who just wants to do some PvP. :)
-
betting arena *drool* I\'ll be one of those guys that makes an arrangement with a friend who bets everything on a nOOb and then I A: take a dive or B: take a dive and buff the nOOb :) , then share in the profits of course :)
-
Right, which is exactly why there won\'t be an NPC based betting system, it would have to all be handled by players so you can\'t make a bet like that unless someone is dumb enough to take it. Meh on second thought that just leads to lots of deception that will lead to people getting ripped off. Any formal bets should only be allowed to be made between the combatants. Yeah that would be cool actually, if you could put up items or money on a fight with someone.
-
no - spectators should be able to officially bet as well, and if anything goes wrong someone could report it to a dev - like my buffing dive idea :D
Being able to race and bet on the races would also be a fun medieval pass-time that Planeshift could use
-
Um, no. They should not be able to bet, period. It is waaaaay to easy to fix it, and I don\'t think the devs want to deal with a bunch of reports of people fixing bets. That would be an absolutley horrible idea and a huge loophole for people to cheat, and the less oppurtunity there is for cheaters, the less there will be. Outside betting could only be done on NPC based battles and races.
-
ah, but NPC battles are just boring... *oh oh waves hand franticly* maybe for outside betting, copies of the dualists\' characters could be sent into the ring to fight it out without their original owner\'s control... just good ole fashion artifical intelligence, haha
-
Yeah auto-battles like in FF VI, that would be a fair way to match up characters with no cheating, maybe you would even be able to make a little pseudo-code strategy for your charcter to follow (when opponent does x respond with y, when health is low do x, etc.).
-
as long as it isn\'t a matter of coding I would be for that - afterall some character builds would be hard for a computer to understand and take advantage of in a duel... nonetheless It better be point and click so people like me can use it :P
