Damn this lag is killing me. I\'m sorry but I\'m going to restrict myself to the forum\'s until the next edition comes out. I just can deal with all that lag.
Oh and also the pssetup.exe file thingy just doesn\'t want to work. I get a \"operation non conforme\" some type of real bad error.
Is there a way to fix any of my two problems?
I run Win98 2nd edition and that\'s all I know bout my computer.
Thanks alot,
Thomas

If you\'ve got win98 your computer probably isn\'t very fast. Chances are the next release won\'t be any better unless you get a new computer. Sorry to have to give you bad news... :(
-
dont get a new computer to play the game :) Planeshift is notorious for lagging high end systems pretty badly -> that\'s why I don\'t play ;)
-
Also, right click on your psclient and select properties, then go to compatibilty and where it says \'Run this program for compatibily for:\' select Windows 98/ME . That might help

Or maybe not, cause he is running win98. :P
You might want to post the error with setup in the tech forum, or send a bug report. I\'ve never heard of it... then again, I don\'t have a high opinion of that setup program to begin with.

simple reason for LAG; to do the 3-D graphics they use takes lots of memory and processing power. THe more people the more to render. They are still in Alpha testing so I can imagine their hardware is also underdeveloped. Give the poor people at Planeshift a bit of a break on the lag. I\'m sure there are working on it.
-
yeah, it is in pre-alpha, the lag will be dealt with later - until then get comfortable and help out on the forums -> or play a different game and come back later

I don\'t even know if I have a 3-D card. When I run the client in the top left corner it tells me \"no hardware accelaration found\" not that I have a clue what that means.yeah, it is in pre-alpha, the lag will be dealt with later - until then get comfortable and help out on the forums
ANd Drilixer, that\'s exactly what I intend to do. Thanks alot guys.

If it makes some feel better, a good pc won\'t help at all
i dont know what\'s wrong with the game but the lag is unbearable and i cant blame it on my pc or my conection.
I can\'t deal with that kind of lag anymore so i\'ll do what others do simply wait for the next version to star playin.
-
the problem seems to be that the game trys to render large environments at once... that is why there is alot more lag outdoors than inside the library for example... the lag is also particualarly bad when you are near the statue and the front of the temple...
-
i got the problem right here:
somebody donate servers please god damnit!!! 1 server cannot host for 60 people. no matter how good it is. it can\'t be done without lag.
-
Servers have nothing to do with lag. It is your machine.
-
so it is all client based? that\'s awesome :)
-
Well if its the machine\'s problem how come the game lags so bad when u have a 2.4ghz pentium 512ddr and a Gforce 4 MX????
-
Hey NikonX I think he has nothing to say to that lol it probally is the game but i think extra servers may help.... And also the game is in Alpha...
-
I think if the devs say it\'s not the server we should listen to them, but it is wrong to say that the problem is in the user\'s machine cause a lot of people in the forums complai about the lag an some say that the game tends to lag a lot in fast PCs so they should try to fix that problem for the next version
-
there are obviously some problems with the client that causes lag - but don\'t worry about it! this is pre-alpha and before the devs start addressing that they are trying to get the content and interfaces etc etc into the game - I think
-
lag is in the engine most likely, they want to fix the engine before anything else
-
hehe, well the engine is for the most part being designed by a different set of devs... although our Planeshift devs do help sometimes
-
i was reading some of your post, but you don\'t need to buy a new computer unless your present computer is unable to update then i guess you do have to get a new computer, and you can also change window like xp, ME, etc.
oh by the way 3D graphic isn\'t that hard to find you can find it in the store, assuming that you don\'t have one, i reccoment radeon, they are cool.
also you might not want to stick to forum, (no action):)
-
Well i guess i\'m gonna have to wait for the next version to start playin anyway. Until then i\'ll just stick around in the forums
-
The lag is a tad gnarly, yet I can\'t refrain from popping in evy now and again, the good ol\' trick of looking towards the floor works pretty well for the mo\', so i\'m assuming part of the problem is gfx related.
Ah well, new fx5600 soon :D
Oh yeah!, try defragging your hard disk, that can help in some instances, I think XP performs a tad worse when files are fragmented all over the shop, but that\'s kinda obvious though ;)
