Title: Question about Skills/Jobs etc.
Post by: Deadfish on August 07, 2003, 09:07:49 pm
Since they are not yet introduced into the game will there be a second chance to rethink them when they are introduced into the game?

All characters will be wiped when you get to choose skills.

that is an interestng though (or at least the way i interpretted it) will there be a way to \'unlearn skills?  There are already several mmorpgs that offer this feature... but they very wildly in implementation.

yeah, like the scroll of don\'t-remember-the-name in warcraft 3 FT.

Actually, I think the most realistic way of dealing with it would be like that :
 1) each time you gain a level (if there are levels), you earn for exemple 20 points to add to all your skills. But you also lose 1 points in each skill, so you can choose not to add a point to some of these skills, and you would gradually unlearn it.
 2) Of course, you shouldn\'t be able to get below the stats you started the game with, or below 50% of the max you reached (or 60%, or 75%, I dunno).
 3) And maybe you could also get faster (like every point is worth 2) when you are re-learning an ability you already had, untill you get to the max you reached.

When you learn something IRL it\'s pretty much like that :
 1) if you stop practicing you lose your abilities
 2) You never totally forget something you once knew (I\'m sure I could still ride a bike although I haven\'t done so in years... I would just not feel at ease)
 3) It\'s much easier to re-learn something you already learned.

Also, will you boost your stats manually ? (eg : I smashed 150 spiders with my sword so I\'ll be able to increase my magic skill) or will you have to practice to increase your skills ? (eg : I cast 150 healing spells because I want to increase my magic but don\'t have any attack spells)

Well there won\'t be levels
You will raise skills by using them
So if you will fight with sword, you\'ll raise your skill in sword fighting
If you will be casting healing spells, then i guess you\'ll raise skill in Crystal Way
