I\'d just like to know what the hell crystals have to do with anything, r they tied in with the setting, storyline of this game or something? coz its a bit stupid that all these ppl will have all these crystals, like they grow off trees or something or in currencys case get made. Is this till an unknown part of planeshift or am i missing something?

Perhaps you should actually read the History and setting of the PlaneShift world first.
The whole of Yliakum is reliant on a massive crystal embedded in it\'s roof, which absorbs sunlight from the surface of the planet and radiates this light down onto our world, enabling a day and night cycle in a place which would otherwise be suffocated in darkness.
Talad, Yliakum\'s God, is the lord over all Glyphs and crystals. It stands to reason that he would allow these gems to grow all over his world as decor or to give his inhabitants a preliminary monetary currency (remember that soon we\'ll have Trias, not crystals).
Crystals are also the staple source of nutrients for the Kran, Talad\'s own tailored race. In order to survive, Kran need to \'eat\' the crystals; some have different tastes, thus why we have Rubies, Emeralds and Diamonds.

Everything you need to know can be found here (http://www.planeshift.it/setting.html).

and another thing - once the next version comes out all the crystals/avatars will be deleted... there will not be a flooded market once the game comes out since the pre-alpha stuff and the beta stuff will most probably be gone

Crystal Hunt is a game we invented for the Molecular Blue release to give people something to do. It showed of some of the things the game could do at that point and did not take much time to implement. It is not a feature of the final game, although the crystals themselve will exist.
