Title: possible cause for lag/.001fps
Post by: dafunklull on August 31, 2003, 01:53:22 am
i have a 2ghz comp 128megs ddr ram raedon 9000

i just started playing i updated and all no prob there

as soon as i was spat in to the world i \"could not look at that rusted tempel thing\"
its that tempel i believe theres something deffinitly wrong with it

perhaps the engine in use is lacking something

take the quake2 engine normally a bsp map with 8bit textures will fit in to memory with ease

but i know this isnt going to happen in planeshift as the world is rather huge

but isnt there something that could be done like

all non currently nonvisable polygones will not be drawn untill the polygone enters your fov?

why have a barrel behind a building half a mile away that you cant see rendering and being loaded in to memory as waisted space?

dunno my thoughts

planeshift looks like it will ammount to a pretty rad lil community tho

Your slowdown problem is probably due to your Radeon card. PS hates Radeons for some reason. Also you don\'t have alot of RAM.

doesn\'\'t have to be his video card, I have a Radeon 9000 in my laptop and it runs really smooth.
So yeah, I\'d say it\'s his RAM.

I\'d also say it is his RAM... 128 isn\'t enough for mmorpgs (nor many other games)... even in this early state..

128 Mb RAM seems to be enough for me at the moment, Yes I get lag and the game sometimes freezes up when outside in the city but its fine other than that. I don\'t think my lag problems are worse than other peoples at the moment so.... :D
