Title: No hardware acceleration?
Post by: Odin Eidolon on September 12, 2003, 02:39:55 am
I got some problems with the OpenGL rendering mode.
Often, when i start the game in this mode, the screen becomes all black or all white, especially in 16-bit depth.
Instead when i use 32-bit depth, the game start (reporting problem: NO HARDWARE ACCELERATION), but it gets really slow (even slower than Software render!). I\'m sure OpenGL is installed correctly, because it works fine with games like Quake III Arena for istance. Moreover, sometimes the game does not run in Fullscreen mode...
Can you help me? :)
Thanks a lot.

Hiya,

Could you post your system specs please? You need to have a 3D card to use OpenGL mode (I\'m sure you do, considering you play Q3), and you also need quite a bit of RAM; 256mb+ is recommended.

Make sure you\'ve got the latest drivers for your 3D card. Also, run the Updater.exe program found in the root PS directory.

That\'s all I can come up with... hope you fix this soon. :)

i\'m having the same problem.  when i start PS up without changing any settings i get a msg at the top of the window highlighted in yellow that says \"No Hardware Acceleration!\"  when i tried to play the game it was extremely slow to the point where i couldn\'t even walk.

specs:

trident blade 3d/promedia  (i know it sucks...)
1ghz celeron (also sucks... >_< )
256mb ram
winxp pro

thanks for any help!

(btw, i have the latest drivers and i ran updater.exe)

ok, it turns out that my drivers weren\'t as updated as i thought >_<  so i dl\'ed and installed the new ones and the \'No Hardware Acceleration!\' msg is gone :)

prob is that the game play still isn\'t fixed.  i can\'t move, and i\'m lucky to be able to turn once in a while to look around after about 40 sec. of lag

when i look in my start menu i noticed that it says:

Planeshift - Safe (Slow) Mode

does the slow part have anything to do with it?  if so how do i change the mode?

sorry if this has been asked already....if so then at least post a link to it and i\'ll be happy :)

in the start menu, under programs and \"Planeshift\" there should be the OpenGL mode, and the safe mode... then just chose the OpenGL mode instead...

What does safe mode actually do?

i wonder that too maybe it doesn\'t load files it doesn\'t directly need or it could be a debugging mode. i\'ll check if it\'s somewhere on the forum

It works. Don\'t ask HOW it works, but it does.
Basically, your framerate goes down the drain (opengl framerate/20), it looks TERRIBLE: extremely blocky and stuff.

Just go for opengl mode...it\'s faster, it looks better, and it\'s just plain better.

Graphical glitches. They\'ll be fixed in the next version.
