Post by: sariel on September 16, 2003, 08:32:20 pm
I noticed there\'s a linux compiling howto for PS. I would like it if there was also one for Windows (preferably for Visual studio .net)

Attempt to optimize it for my system, maybe enhancing the speed of the thing a tiny bit?

There\'s not much u can do really to speed up the game except for uncompressing some of the files to reduce load time.

If you know enough to check all the projects out of CVS then you should look in docs/Compiling.txt.  It should have most the information you need for building for Windows.  It is easy once you have things set up ( usually the hardest bit ), usually something like:

1) Open workspace for project
2) Build \'All\' target
3) Make a sandwich while everything builds.
4) Repeat for all projects

If you need some info on CVS then I would suggest reading up on it on http://www.sourceforge.com.  They have some good docs there on how to use WinCVS.

If you really want to build things then I would really suggest building the newer version and running things ( a client and server ) locally ( unless you really want to play online with others. )   We are not supporting the current release very well now since so much of the internals have changed so any problems you get when building the old version may go unanswered since we tore out a lot of it :)
