Title: More Servers
Post by: Pfeffa on September 21, 2003, 06:13:54 pm
Hello,

The server in Singapore (of all places) gives a verry bad response time.
The game is too laggy to play or even walk around.

Is there any hope for a server in Europe?
(pref. Netherlands??)

Greetz.

Actually, its less lag than it is Crystal Space\'s fault, or so I\'ve heard.

Anyway, our servers are volunteers, so naturally, you can\'t expect great servers (or in \"good\" locations); remember the saying, \"Beggers can\'t be choosers\"?

I\'m sure that in the future more servers will be required, but at the moment we only need 1.
It\'s actually more the game than the net speed that\'s causing the lagg.
Of course if u have a slower net speed than 56k it\'s gonna lagg, and as the game develops it might become unplayable at those speeds, but I dont think many people have 28.8k.  :D

I get a fps of 6 sometimes. And the ping isn\'t that bad for me:) (hier in Nederland).

I have a server which I could use to host a server, it\'s on a very good connection in the US...

M8\'s,
the lag will soon be gone...wait for Crystal Blue.
I was in Atomic and that was WAY worse than what we have now. I\'m happy most of you were never in Atomic cuz then you would have had reason to complain...And on the other hand, if you were ever in AB you wouldn\'t be complaining now cuz you would see what improvements are made already.
So if y\'all will wait for Crystal Blue now, only another few months and most of the lag will be gone :D Aye?

I DON\'T WANT TO HEAR YOU COMPLAINING AGAIN AYE? :D:D:D

I seriously doubt anyone in Netherlands would even put up a proper server on a proper connection, if the prices I\'ve heard are true. No, a good server would be with someone in scandinavia on a good 100+ MBit line. You can\'t get that many other places in the world, unless you\'re a Bill Gates nr. 2, or you are the ruler of a huge company.

And now you americans don\'t come yabbing about your oh-so-good T3 lines, because they are BAD! :D

I\'d love a server here in ye olde Denmark :D :P

there are lots of 100 Mbit lines here, and some of them are even free... We should get boomtown to sponsor PS :P:P

yes, indeed they have :) I use their servers to play ET on too.. (since I have the lowest ping on their servers :P) They are also the biggest net-cafe chain in Denmark, so naturally they have to have the biggest and best servers and lines...! 8)

You have 100 mbit connections  8o
*drools*

Well, I guess the lag will slowly disappear, as they update versions, and add servers. So everyone: become a volunteer!

*becomes a volunteer*
So, from now on, I\'ll host the PS server on my PII 350 Mhz...
Have fun!  :P *evillaugh*

Sure Boomtown has nice connections, and nice computers as well, especially the V.I.P. room. :D

if we have more then one server it is hard to find eachother !

then they should write something so everybody is on the same database and all the actions are send to a general server.
so when you log in it chooses the best server for you and everything you will do will be visible on all servers.
otherwise the community will be broken down and we will not be able to see what some guild members are doing because some server\'s causes less lag then the other so i think one is the best until there is a better solution.

Good to see a fellow Singaporean online. I thought nobody in the local scene would notice this. Of course, I\'m eagerly awaiting the next release and hope we could get the local gaming community more involved in this as well  8)
