Well, I just love being a blacksmith, every game I play, I always check if they are avaible. Well, I started thinking (yes that did happen lol) and start reading, and I saw that blacksmith aren\'t going to be able to mine ( sad T_T) so I came up with the idea of having mining npcs for example a group of dwarves that are expert of getting iron ores, so you can hire their services for mining, which would be cheaper than buying the ores. You choose where to mine, how many hours and you pay for the hours, so it end being fair and cheaper. Also, the blacksmiths that forge, for example light armors, could have a mineral proeficency (Dunno how to write it...), so they would make a better quality armor if they used iron, or another metal they are good with, so there would be weak, normal, resistent, strong and others kinds of armors, varying as the blacksmith proeficency with the mineral. Sounds confusing, but I hope everyone gets it. Also, blacksmith could make minering tools, so they could make the mining process faster and get better at making mining tools and knowing a mineral. Like, as you use, you get better with it. Also, certain stones could have special properties so they could be charged with magic and forged into the weapons/armors. So you could have a Fire armor, that would resist or even absorb fire but would be weak against water. Well, here are some ideas, enjoy yourselves ^^

That\'s way too complex. And what would fire armor look like? And why would people attack you with water? Spit on you?
Anyway, NPC\'s doing the mining sounds good though. In R00nscape, all the smiths spent all day standing around mining. Or maybe pcs could just mine and sell the minerals.

well, it is worth for example in a hot place, were you gain a extra defense or something like that, or makes you terrible at fighting near a shore or at the water. Or if you fight a mage or someone with a enchanted weapon, you could have advantage or not, depending on the case of course. ^_^
Edit: It can be used against monsters too, since there could be element monsters weak or strong against certain elementes. In a Magma dungeon a fire armor would be very resistant and very helpfull ^_^

WOW shut shadow up there, love the nnpc idea btw. I gonna be weaponsmith too
-
Yeah I\'m gaonna be a smith to! That was a cool idea!
-
it\'s a great idea! the higher ur smithing level the better things u should be able to make. The firearmor and such is a good idea. I think it should be an enchantment done by a different class though. I mean that lasts like 2 mins before the sword changes back.
-
Yay or the smithy would have to hire an experienced mage to enchant/bless/cast a spell on the armour (sorry I dont really know wat bless or any of that stuff really is)
-
yay ^^ Nice to know that you guys liked the ideas =D
I\'m curious to know about a blacksmith workshop, furnaces, anvils, etc... I believe that we (lol kinda blacksmith already) should have something like a private workshop on the city (one city only) althought would be nice to be able to forge anywhere, but not very realistic.... I also think would be nice if the forge quality and the time to make something changed according to the hammer, anvil and furnace you use. For example, an hammer made of, dunno, some very hard and heat resistent metal would be a great help at forging. An anvil needs to be resistant, otherwise, well, you probably will forge crap weapons. The furnace could be like, fire + magic. For example, a magic that makes the fire last longer so you use less resources to make the weapon, or to make the fire even hotter, so it would be a lot faster.... just ideas, let me know yours =D

Hope one of the devs is reading this, that\'s a good system. Maybe you should e-mail that or something.

Oh if u email him put a good word in for me. But yeah great system.

Ya i really like this idea.
So let me get this straight it\'s like this right?:
\"Miners Mine underground in the walls. You could have an animation of them hitting and maybe little squares flying off as part of the animation to symbolize the breaking off of stone. When you use the Mining skill you can hold down the button or what ever and the higher your mining level the more often a piece of ore will fly out of the wall. The Ore could just land on the ground for anyone to pick up. Then they bring it up to that Blacksmith place in town where they try and make those little bar things (like the gold ones in the who done it movies). It could be like you press a button to put it in then press it to take it out. If it\'s in there too long or not long enough it gets screwed up and becomes scratch. Take Bar of $blah to the anvil and use the skill button or what ever you use and create the item. :)\"
I think that would be pretty cool. It\'d be cool also to have an Enchanter in the mage class that could put temp spells on items. That way if they enchanted it with Fire or some type of spell it would raise the power of the weapon. When the spell wares of it could make the default weapon weaker. Though we don\'t really have magic it would make it more realistic. If i put a toothpick on fire it wouldn\'t quite be the same toothpick when i pull it out. ;)
Mining would also be a cool way for those little crystals to appear.

Maybe if u had ore on you when u left the mines u would have to pay for it, that way the miners get payed. Nothings free :P
