i\'ve just played Savage demo from s2games (http://www.s2games.com) and there\'re some features (graphics) that i\'d love to see in PS
one thing is the grass - moving grass is (probably) made by the client, and is shown just in a short, but noticable radius around the character
second: little critters that run around make a fine difference ...the butterflies in the savage demo make the whole thing feel nicer ...i would love to see some butterflies, birds, furry critters etc. in PS that couldn\'t be killed ...just being there :]
p.s. there\'s the linux and windows demo (and end-version client)
p.p.s. here\'s a torrent (http://www.3dgamers.com/torrents/games/savage/savagedemoinstaller-linux.sh.torrent), for those who have it :]
also i like the trees in arkhart (http://arkhart.nekeme.net/en/)

I got the full version of savage, and it does have some stuff which would be nice.

ARG! The lag Monster is coming! Run away fools :D :D :D!
Do you like the rain that make all clients lag? Now you will have the butterflies!
Seriously that kind of details are great but only in an achieved and optimized game.
-
Lol, well, these details sure would look nice, but in the far future probably, when many of the lag problems are resolved and the game is already in a advanced version. But would be nice to have real world details =D

definetly!
i never did claim i want to see it in the next release! ...but when PS reaches 1.0 (or preferably sooner :] ) ...i\'d love to see it ...don\'t forget at the moment we\'re 0.2.08 pre-alpha ...that\'s a LOOOOONG way from 1.0 ...or alpha even
-
If they are non-gameplay relevant details, then theoretically you could handle them client side even. That means everyone wouldn\'t necessarily see the same thing, but for things like that it\'s not really important. Would be funny though... \"Hey look at that squirrel!\" \"What squirrel?\" \"The one standing at your feet!\" \"There\'s nothing there, you\'re crazy!\"
-
lol, I believe there is a squirrel in your mind =D
Just kidding ^^ (I have one in mine =P)
Anyway, as in savage, all these settings should be adjustable, since there will be tons of players and lots of weak CPUs, making the game lag like hell for some people.
-
If they havn\'t upgraded their computers until a playable version of PS is released they can lagg as much as they want for all that I care...
-
Most lag (imho) in planeshift is produced by the lag of using threads. Parralel loading and stuff is realy sweat, but we could use it for more stuff, like loading the rain effect. I think it generaly helps to use enough threads, in the right places ofcourse.
One site note: I don\'t know if threads are all the same in all the os\'es, all I know is that libsdl has proper support for using threads that can be used in more than one operating system. *HINT to Vengeance*:P:)

So what you actually want is an endless green meadow with cute singing birds, fancy-coloured butterflies and fluffy little bunnies on it, right?
Oh joy. Excuse me, gotta go.
*thinks about screaming with terror and banging his head against a wall*
No, wait...
*thinks about screaming with joy and banging someone elses\' head against a wall*
;)
On a more serious note: the small creatures would surely make the world more lively, but an off option or some slider is necessary for the performances\' sake. You don\'t want a flock of birds making your game jerky right in the middle of the fight.

/me is picturing Bambi in Yliakum right about now...

sounds good.
