Title: idea for the n00bs that wanna play but can't download
Post by: dorbian on October 13, 2003, 10:09:09 am: i was thinking,

i use bittorent alot for downloads.
and then it hit me when one of the new players couldn\'t download all the parts.
i\'m goin to share the extracted file over bittorent and put it on one of the trackers.

i don\'t know if anyone wan\'t to help me with this one but it would help us to get more people to the game and create a bigger community even if we put it on the download pages as a game.

tell me what you all think of the idea!

And besides, putting it on a peer-to-peer network will just bring more and more people who haven\'t read the guide or any FAQ.
We get enough of that allready.

And I don\'t think you really want this to spread on such networks, if people want the game they should come here.

and that the people get it from the official site doesn\'t mean they read the faq just look at the forum most of the post are about newbies that didn\'t read the faq ;)
and we simply cant say RTFM or STFI cuz that\'s why we are here to give support to the new people and when there are more and more people there will also be more people that will help us with that problem.

so i think the p2p is a great idea ( and i\'m not the only one )

Games such as these, that are \"free software\", are kind of the whole idea behind peer to peer networks...

if there are more people that wanna join me i will be happy to send you the .torrent file and if possible i will put a link to it on the forum here so more people can help me share this file

I guess what I mean is ... well, there\'sless chance of people who just wnat to cause trouble in the game if the souce of the software is limited. Of course, don\'t let this stop you from anything. It\'s still your own decision.

I will still put CB on bittorrent(probably suprnova.org) with a good description and text file, so if anyone wants to help seeding then, it would be great.

all we need is some people who want to share it when cb comes out in a few months....

CB is just as much a tech demo as MB... it just has more gameplay.. And the point is to reach out to more people...

umm.. no... it\'s still tech-demo.. it is testing, it isn\'t the real game yet, no one says it\'s going to look like CB once it progresses, so it\'s still a tech..

I can\'t be made responsible for google\'s crappy site... Also I think it\'s different what ends up first... I get Planeshift as the first hit on google and second on alltheweb...

This is also a significant non-infringing use of P2P apps, which is the court\'s definition of when NOT to outlaw a technology, whether it is VCRs (several significant non-infringing uses) or Napster (none). So distributing PS on those networks is a way of boosting their own right to exist.
