who else here thinks that the Klyros have way too many advantages.
Don\'t count that armour advantage because if you\'re gonna choose a Klyros you are likely to choose it for being a Spellcaster, or an assassin (not too likely), or even some sort of archer/ranger. But none of these proffesions require heavy armour anyway.
they have so many cool features, i\'m afraid almost everyone will want one, so:
1. there will be Klyroses every where.
2. people (spellcasters, etc) who don\'t choose them
will will choose them later on finding that it would be foolish not to, which will again take away the concept of full role-playing because you will choose a character for power more than for imagination. Just like all other rpg games.
Also, this will prob. be changed later on but the little Dwarf dudes (hammerheads and stone breakers i think it was) also have quite unfair advantages.
-
I don\'t know about the rest of you, but I pick a character from the picture and description, and only look at the stats and advantages when I am choosing my \"class\" and skills. but that\'s just me, what about the rest of you?
Jessyn, the happy little Dermorian
-
Good for you.
But not all gamers do it your way.
I want to be an Andukai assassin (not just because the females look cool in that black skin), but not when i know that others shall be at a huge advantage over me.
Ofcourse you connot tell until they have released the final version of the game (sorry not final, CB).
-
I personally Belive that there is nothing wrong with the Klyros. people will pick thier Race by what they belive thier Character should be like. My brother, for example is going with the Endukai (How do u spell it again?) Because he likes cats. I am Going with Klyros Because i like Reptiles, not because of thier stats. Dont assume what people are going to do or not do, too many factors are in play which prevents prediction.
-
ajdaha, when you\'re able to pick Klyros because you\'re actually able to BE a spellcaster/assassin/whatever, and you\'re able to use the bonuses that the diffrent races give, you can start complaining. Doing it now is just... useless. Besides, why choose Klyros over Dermorian/Nolthrir, when they give better Wis/Int/Chr bonuses (the stats which will be used for spellcasting)? Just a question. :)
-
Gronimist has a good point.
And i don\'t see anything besides flying worthy of special mention about them.
I\'ll be a Dermorian BTW.
-
Gronomist sorry, you\'re right.
I don\'t know about the final changes which will be made in the next (CB) update.
PS: they can also (for now) breath under water
-
Little off topic but has any1 made a guide/FAQ that displays each race\'s and each class\' advantages/disadvantages/statistics?
-
Planeshift team had made one. just look on the homepage under setting/races. There you can find a short description(text about physic, psychic, common hobbys/interests) and their rules (boni, mali, abilities).
-
i was going to be a klyros but i since have become attatched to my enki char so i think i stay with it
-
bah, I don\'t want to play as a reptile thingy, I\'d much prefer being a human, elf or enkidukai (I\'ll probably choose human or elf since so many pple already took enkidukai).
Besides, as planeshift will be under constant developement, if a race happen to be better than others, it will be readjusted (just like they do with warcraft3, although I don\'t know if it really works since I don\'t play war3...)
-
Dude klyros isnt very powerful to me ...... first of all we dont know how the fly will be itll prolly take down stamina seriously and they will prolly be the worst fighters and for the breathe underwater ....... i doubt there will be much water for a while. If yer gonna be a type of mage im sure itll also be easier to kill ya
-
shangralah - You said first of all, but I believe that is to be second of all, as we first of all don\'t know if there will be something called stamina or not. Besides, Klyros can\'t fly, they can just flap their wings and jump farther than normal people.
Breathing under water would however prove a nice thing, as Dungeon Level 6 (or was it 5?) and below that will be somewhat flooded with water, due to the fact that all the water goes down into the bottom of the stalactite, that represents Yliakum (that\'s where the Nolthrirs live - below the water). :) As a second note, I\'m only saying that they\'re flooded, not filled.
-
lol, yes they can fly. Read it on the races page.
But i\'mm assuming that they\'ll be able to fly for about 100m then land. Useful for jumping off cliffs.
Klyros arn\'t that powerful, as they can\'t wear heavy armour, so they\'ll be quite bad in close combat.
-
i beleive it was fly short distances.
-
Well, if they fly...thy\'re harder to hit(unless seeking magic is used), but they also can\'t do much either. I think they\'ll have many downsides while flying, so I don\'t think they\'ll be so usable for RP flyin\' archers or mages.
Breathe underwater suonds quite fine, although i don\'t know how they can swim...just look at their wings, way too much traction.
-
I dont think that flying during a battle would be useful, it would be just as hard to aim at the enemy. Maybe they could hover, but they wouldn\'t be able to do so for long.

Many birds/birdlike creatures use their wings to swim. Like penguins. :) Besides, Klyros\' have that skin between their feet which is good for swimming.
-
Penguins, yeah. :) A perfect exmple! :D
I don\'t think their skin will suffice, look how big those wings are and they cannot fold them up like those watery birds.
And if they unfoldedly tried to swim they could get seriously hurt.
-
i think they would have an easier time trying to swim, than to hover. do you know the kind of power and effort required to hover? flying in a line is easy, but unless you\'re a helicopter(they have wings, the wings just fly in circles-rotor) hovering has to be done like a hummingbird. If that was the case, a klyros would have to weigh next to nothing, which would make em so flimsy as to be usless in combat, etc. swimming can be accomplished by most critters, at least enough to get where they\'re going. just my two trias,
Jessyn

I don\'t think many people would use the klyros as warriors because they are clearly bent towards a paths that involves magics:
\'Thanks to their body structure, the Klyros are fast in all three elements: air, water and earth.\'
And magicians prefere not to wear heavy armour
-

They wont be \"teh uber caster\".
Thanks to their body structure, the Klyros are fast in all three elements: air, water and earth.
I think that means that they will be able to move in all of the three elements.
-
So............Earth refers to walking?
NO irony intended.
I thought this ment that they would be fast learners in the BLue, Brown and azure ways
-
I assumed that it meant that they were comfortable in all of the elements. I could be wrong though.
-
lets wait untill the Devs come and help us out with this issue.
-
I think that if everyone picks the klyros, they will be in for a dissapointment, I think that the devs have already balanced out the races, since this would be what would attract or drive away most people (you mean, there are CAT PEOPLE??!!??). I think that their fraile body would give them less endurance/hp/overall strength though
I couldn\'t imagine why a klyros couldn\'t master a light spear, or dagger, and a little magic to become an effective ambush, assasin.
Although they wouldn\'t be Uber Disgusting Mages Buffed to all Synapses, they would be effective if the player knew what he/she/it was doing. Magical items/training can make for a great Dwarven mage.
Also, lets say a Demorian and a Klyros go one on one, I think the speed of the Klyros could be an added plus to make up for the lack in Uber Disgusting mental prowess.
In spite of that, I wouldn\'t pick them, I think they would be too weak, i want speed and power, so I think the Endukai would be best suited for that....I think
I hope the devs can give us some comparison to the power and usefulness of the races\' abilities before having a whole bunch of useless accounts.
-
On that note:
How about the Endukai, lots of people will choose them, usually to be assassins using the azure way. I was gonna go that way but when i realised this i changed my mind. I\'m still prob going to be an Endu but maybe not an assassin.
It just too tempting though.
-
Why all this assassin stuff, when it\'s already been cleared that there will be limited PvP? I mean, okay, let\'s all choose to make the ultimate PvP character that we can use for nothing. What an exceptional idea *Sarcasm*. :P
-
I\'m just telling you what i\'ve heard.
Anyway an assassin could just as well kill monsters
-
The assasin aspect is obviously going to be useful agains monsters, go read the assasins skills in the players guide.
A pvp character would not be very useful in PS, I agree since it is based on role-playing and not on pvp.
Sneaking up on a labyrinth spider would be just as useful in battle as sneaking up on the left flank of another party.
I see the assasin thing implemented like ninja skills, and Klyros seem well suited for that purpose.

according to race description, enkidukais art better as warriors, and actually not so good as spellcasters.
-
Most people choose endukais as assassins because of:
1. their plus3 to wis, hence better use of the azure way.
2.bonus on agility.
3. the female looks good in the dark skin :P
-
Another good Klyros Idea would be Death from above, They can fly right? Well, Buff up Dex and you have a Airborn bomber/Fighter
-
but enkis besides agaility have also strenght and endurance + they are good at martial arts.
Agility + Strenght + Endurance + Martial Arts make them born warriors. Really, they aren\'t as good assassins as warriors ;)
-3 to mana make them worse at any way of magic ;)
-
THat\'s exactly what I thought when Drakar here asked me to join the Defenders, I said to myself that an assasin endukai is stupid because of the stats, but I didn\'t want a Klyros ;) So I am a knight
-
I disagree. Have you ever played the game D2: LoD? Well, that is a perfect example of the Necromancer. When you look at him w/o actually seeing him or playing as him, he seems perfect. But once you start working on a Necro char, you soon realize that they truthfully suck... DOn\'t worry, if you are playing PS now, KEEP YOUR CHAR! Don\'t make a new one that\'s Klyros... at least don\'t make it ur main char.
-Zeonire.
-
Yeah....but it\'s not like you should have more than one char anyways Zeon... ;)
It\'s just common sense to me, but if you find that a certain race is more powerful in the beggining of a game than another, then why not just make friends with a lot of people with that type of character and use them in your party to your advantage?
I don\'t see the point in complaining, do you want the dev\'s to melt all the races down into the basic Human race? Having advantages/disadvantages is essential in giving the game variety as well as a more personal \'feel\' to the Role Playing experience. For Example, anyone ever consider Arm/Leg Disablement in the Char Creation?
-
Well, arm disablement for extra magic always seemed to me like a good idea for someone who will not be fighting much.
-
I \'m not complaining! These people are complaining! I\'m jsut using an allusion to let them know that the Klyros probably won\'t be as \"perfect\" as they think and not to get all worried about it...
-
If the Klyros race isn\'t as perfect as people say, then which race would you say is better, and why, O\' Great, O\' Grand - Master Zeonire?
-

bah, you can\'t say some race is better than another...
all races have advantages and disadvantages, some are better at fighting, some at magic. Like Klyros can fly, but they can\'t wear any heavy armour, and their skeletons are easy to damage. Furthermore they can fly only for a short period of time. You might get into fight with kran or something that will have high magic resistance. You will fly for a bit, and what then? Get killed by your enemy.
And if you mean who is better than Klyros as:
mages: Lemur, Xacha
warriors: Enkidukai, Hammerwielder, Kran
-
Believe I didn\'t mention your name, Draklar. I told the all-knowing Zeonire to tell us which race is the better one. :)
Then again, I think I\'d rather choose Dermorian or Nolthrir over Xacha for a mage character.
-
Yeah. All races are balanced. It\'s just that \"the beauty is in the eye of the beholder\" thing applies very well.
Some races are better at certain classes and worse at others.
Some have some special abilities, some do not.
...
So for me and my RPed druid, the dermorians are perfect. To another klyros might do the thing...
(trying to show that disputes about best races(or sth else) are futile. All is relative ;))

well i did know the answer and i didn\'t want you to wait any longer ;) :D
whatever... you might pick Kran for a mage, just saying which races are best at magics. +2/4 mana at char creation make it pretty clear ;)
well that, and stuff that Lemurs get +1 to all elemental ways at start, and that Xachas strongly concentrate on magic.
-
ok, this thread seem to be started by not reading races descriptions.
Klyros: they aren\'t best spellcasters! I\'d place \'em as average spellcasters. Class that they are best in: merchant.
Dermorian: as above, but best as rangers.
Enkidukai: assassin won\'t use all of their adventages, best as warriors.
Nolthrir: good spellcaster, but not as good as Xacha or Lemur. Probably best if you want the blue way.
