Even after the final is released? Also, is there any sort of modification tools you can use? I am curious because I want to find out as much about this game as I can before I decide to join in when I upgrade my PC. And yes, that is the main thing I want, is for this game to be entirely free. No fees of 9.95 per month and crap like that.
-
yes. that is the plan. Im not sure about mod tools...But I doubt it.
-
Nice! Thank you Aeyla. Mod Tools would be awesome though, sorta like what Neverwinter Nights has going on.
-
I think that there will be a full suite of mod tools available at some point. But since it is more fun to work on the core parts of the game, nobody is working on these tools at the moment.
I think the ability for others to add new content ( that will be reviewed by the PlaneShift team ) will be a good aspect when we start to hit a lot of users.

hey no problem. and dont feel to bad, EVERYONE misspells my name on the first try :P

It had better always be free, or I will be mad.
-
Yes this game is free right now but dont count on that. Things always change. That which don\'t perish. Hopefully PS will be an exception but hoping ensures nothing.
-
The main goal of this game is to be free. There will never be a charge to play PS, that has been said from the very beginning and that was the reason the devs started this.
-
As soon as the game is being \"released\" I\'m pretty sure the fans of PS will create a lot of stuff on their own, editor or not.
And this game is free and will always be.
-
isn\'t this in the FAQ? it\'s kind of sad that no matter how many times you say something is free, people won\'t believe you, they keep looking for the catch. sigh.
P T Barnum was right, but these days, there\'s a lot more than 1 person being born every minute.

yes, it\'ll be free and open-sourced ...and pretty ...and all that ...just RTFP!!!
*hook weeps over all those \"is this really free\" posts and threads*
-
I\'m sure when you create a free game of this quality, you can expect to get donations and stuff. You should have an online donation service or something :))
-
there has also been much discussion about that, a long time ago, and i believe it was decided that ANY money would corrupt things, so they were going to do everything on a volunteer basis. besides, when PS is the biggest, baddest game on the planet, the dev team will be able to put it on their resume\'s and walk onto any team they like
Jessyn
All: feel free to correct me if i am wrong
-
sun quan lol, lui bei is so much better... oh, yeah, topic stuff, well I think that it should be free but i would be willing to pat a small price 1.25$ a month for it if need be. But the damn 9.95$ is too much.
-
The reason they don\'t have a donation thing is simply because at this time they have no need for it. Labor costs are a non-factor, they have all the development tools they need, and they\'re getting free server space.
-
Well, it\'s your call :) If you ever decide to charge people in any way, I\'m pretty sure they (we) will.
-
i remember when proposing PayPal, Talad refused saying they\'ve no idea what to spend the money, they\'d get, on ...so all we can is buy them a beer/tea/coffee/whatever when/if we meet them IRL
-
If we donate, they can buy coffee themselves :P

yea, but getting coffee or getting money for coffee is a different feeling :)
-
how about a capuchino, if we give them money for that it will be different then getting a cup off coffe in real life :P

Jessyn,
You\'re darn right that the devs could get an awesome job after \"finishing\" PS. I mean, it\'s one thing to produce something good when it\'s your job, but it\'s even more to produce something incredible when it\'s something you do in your free time :)
It just goes to show how devoted the devs are: it\'s not their job, they wouldn\'t have to work on it if they don\'t want to, but they do despite the fact that they could be spending their time partying/going on road trips/skiing/eating watermelon/making out/etc. they still work on PS because they\'re the kind of people that stick to a project, no matter what!
Devs, this spud\'s for you! :D :D

Jessyn
[Edit] SWEET, i made double as :P
-
Lot of devs already have a job in their sector. ;)
We don\'t need *glurps*.. money! :)
Enjoy the game and we\'ll be rewarded enough! ;)
