Title: Fan Art posting thread
Post by: zaphar on November 05, 2003, 04:27:59 am
[This is the thread responsible for the Fan Art area being created. :) I\'ve moved it here now, and anyone can still post things here or create their own thread... anyways, ta-daa! -Mogura]

Ok this has been briefly discussed on the forums before but no one has taken the lead so here goes.

Post your artwork here and just to start us off here is my contribution.

presenting my klyros in all his glory:

YAY!! You finished it! It looks awesome Zappie, well done! :)

I\'m practicing to draw a fully detailed study of my character Moogie... if I ever get any better at facial features and proportions... I\'ll post it here. :)

I\'ve got a couple of monsters I could post later when I get home too. I\'ll just edit and shove them at the bottom of this post.

[Edit: Okay, added a few pics.]
[Edit again: Switched to another host so the pics will show up now. Thanks Niber for the link later in this thread.:) ]

I can\'t contribute, though, \'cause I\'m an \"artistically challenged\" guy. At least in drawing.

I never gave up but when I moved to Maya there was a steep learning curve.

I may redo his skeleton some time and see if I can get rid of some of those unnatural deformations but for now he his finished. I need to move on to some other things.

Nice. And everyone ignores Moogie who drew her little heart out for you. Pitiful.

Klyros is plastic. There\'s this beautious thing called \'Textures\' *clouds open...divine light shines down...The opening thingy from The Simpsons plays* Now, \'textures\' include pictures, and light ambience, and bump mapping (the true magic of the 3D world). Try it out. You can make something completely stupid look good.

Now, on to the good art.

Moogie, that last pic is jaw-dropping. When did you do that? It\'s great. The only problem I have with it, and this is meant as constructive critisism, is that her eyebrows are too thick near the bridge and it makes her look toked...er, evil. Ya, that\'s what I meant. But, the rest is really quite...um...awesome.

I was thinking of submitting some fanart, but now that I see Moogie\'s I really don\'t see the point. My self-confidence is gone. :(

Jedi,

No one was ignoring her post; it didn\'t originally contain those pics, she edited them in later.  So the people who post from you on (who actually read the whole thread and not just the last 2 posts  8o ) will have seen her pics.

So, me being after Jedi, let me also congratulate Moogie on a job well done!  :D Your \"quick sketch\" would take me days to create something half as good as that.  It\'s not envy (if I was an artist, I couldn\'t be a programmer), just simple admiration.  So here it is again: excellent work!

Zaphar, that model is very good as well.  I agree with Jedi that a adding a few textures would absolutely rock.  8)

Keep up the good work, everyone!

you can\'t steal the thread mooogie its there for everyone to post their artwork so technically it belongs to everyone already

I know. It felt like I was stealing somebody\'s thunder though... I have no idea who\'s, and right now it doesn\'t make sense anyway so nevermind. :)

Hmm, it would be extremely helpful to me and other people if someone could suggest a truely reliable free image host. MyImgs used to be awesome, but just recently they\'ve cut the space down to 1mb, 5 images and like 10mb bandwidth per month, which is absurdly horrid compared to the 50mb, 10 images and 100mb per month they used to offer.

Something must be wrong with my computer; I can\'t see her pictures! Perhaps if I can use my friend\'s computer I can sit back and admire too...
Well, hopefully I can get some of my drawings on here soon.

Personal web server right here :D

The greatest thing about being in a techie family is the surplus of spare computers lying around.  Unfortunately it\'s really old, so I can\'t host everybody\'s pictures on it (I need to check with my cable company too see if we have any limits on bandwidth anyway) :(.

Right now I just use it for personal images AND will be location of Xandria\'s Magic Shoppe (coming soon!!!).  If I get a new computer soon, I may use the one I have now as our new server, which would rock :D
Title:
Post by: Jessyn on November 07, 2003, 08:32:44 pm
hehehe, the cable company will always TELL you there are limits...  I am in the process of making SHAW my little prison inmate....  they say a max of 8 Gb a month?  well, I take 50.(I\'d use more, but it\'s kinda hard just downloading movies)

Here\'s an inked draft of a monster concept I did today for PS- the Dren Shark.

This is the first sketch I did of the monster. I like it alot more, particularly the skull... although the crown of the inked version is more attractive. This guy looks way meaner though. :)

The Nolthrir race suddenly looks a lot less appealing if that\'s what you have to share the waters with ;) Great work Moogie, I hope they develop your concept in game.

Fantastic Enkidukai Kwartz! - I think I might know someone who would love to use that pic, mind if I use it?

I have updated the tavern (http://www.thebbb.tk/) and tarted up the gallery page - see what you think and if you\'re happy with what I\'ve done with your works. Any comments/suggestions are welcomed :)

Moogie, what\'s the alignment of your Krylim?  Just asking because I need a horse-type character in my story, and if it\'s true neutral or better I\'d like to know if I could use that name in my story  :)
Title:
Post by: Moogie on November 12, 2003, 01:12:53 am
Hadn\'t thought about it before now, but I\'d class it as a \'wildlife\' creature and neutral as such.

I\'m flattered you want to use it :) and you have my permission, if you\'re going to use the actual creature and it\'s name together (and not use the name alone and associate it with something different). :)

I don\'t think I\'ve seen any postings of your story before. Have you started it yet?
Title:
Post by: Xandria on November 12, 2003, 01:32:31 am
I was just checking, with the horns and all I wanted to make sure it was at least \'true neutral\' first.

And thanks for letting me use it :)  No, I haven\'t started writing it yet; I\'m trying to get the whole thing in my head before I start it on paper (well digital ink, but you get this picture ;) ).

I was just trying to come up with a name for a horse-type creature in my story (I didn\'t want to just call it a \"horse\"  :P), but then I saw your pic and I figured I\'d just ask to use yours!  :D

Well, since I can\'t draw and I don\'t have a scanner anyhow I don\'t see how praising is OT. Good job, everybody! Keep it up!

And Moogie, now I\'m just confused, cause every time I laugh at the \"butterdrake\'s pwetty wings\" I think of badgers and I get scared again.....

By the way, if there are ever evil badgers in PS, can we have badger servers and non-badger servers? Some of us are still traumatized...

Say, that is pretty cool, but...do you happen to have a high-poly version? Or at least a prerender-worthy one? That would look cool.

Edit: Didn\'t want to double post so I\'ll just stick them in here. ;)

TriLegion Equipment (subject to change or addition)

The TriLegion is talked about in my next chapter of TotJ.

Next I have a little ditty that I did in Photoshop. It doesn\'t really have anything to do with Planeshift, but it does refer to me as Jedi. :D It comes in two parts.

Part 1:

Part 2:

Well, Enjoy. :D I\'ll be adding something soon.
Title:
Post by: Wedge on November 13, 2003, 08:09:47 pm
Ooooh that looks much nicer now, reflection on the blade is more noticable with the pouch thingies to mirror.  I\'ve never made a single hi-poly thing in 3ds MAX, mainly coz\' I can\'t.  I\'ve never really had much of any training on how to use it, I was just forced to figure out how to model stuff when I had to make art for my game a year or so ago.  I don\'t really know anything about proper rending, materials, or animation, and I can just kinda make stuff up with box modeling.  Somehow I ended up having to do artwork for the game I\'m working on now too... and this time it\'s real-time 3d, not prerendered.  I\'m a programmer dammit!  But eh... forget that and let\'s say it\'s low poly so it could in theory be a game model  ;) .
Title:
Post by: Jedi on November 14, 2003, 04:14:50 am
I started from nothing too, but I did the tutorial. ;)

The sword has a total of 22494 faces (not polygons), which is considered a gross overkill for something so simple.

Of those faces:

21600 are in the hilt
512 are in the handle
288 are in the pommel
56 are in the Jewel
and 38 are in the blade

My throwing knives are made up of...wait for it...two lines! :D \'S true.

Anyways, here\'s another shot of the \'weapons table\'. Added a staff.

I\'ll work on adding a dagger tomorrow and that should round out the collection. :D The tools of a Jedi.
Title:
Post by: Yarulion on November 14, 2003, 04:39:48 am
Well, just FYI since I have no graphical suggestions, the \"jewel-holder\" is referred to as the pommel :P

I haven\'t drawn for a while.  But to contribute something, this was just a concept of how the tree could look in Tree Castle project.  Lately, a lot of inspiration, but no desire :) to draw.  I think I\'m giving it up as somewhat of professional ideas for future, and I\'ll stick to maybe drawing for fun.  But, hey, this is not a confessions thread, maybe I should post a damn pic

I mostly just draw my pic in pencil. then scan it and outline it in photoshop and then color it.  I wish I had more desire to draw, then I would improve, but I don\'t.

Jedi: your 3dmax work is very impressive.  although I see some flaws in the scene such as shadow and reflection of the crystal :)  (maybe it\'s a glass) if it\'s some material, then how is it possible to see the reflection?  but still it looks really pro.  if you could do that without the tutorials you could do amazing stuff.

by the way, I recently discovered another artist on web that I\'m amazed with, here\'s her diablo pic.

here\'s the link

I didn\'t use the tutorials to make that stuff. I was just saying I did them a long time ago. I did make all that stuf by myself, of my own design. What do you mean about the crystal? Crystals do have reflections on their surfaces, they do cast shadows, and they can be seen in reflections. Is that what you were talking about?

Piece of crap double post...*goes away muttering bad things*
Title:
Post by: sashok on November 16, 2003, 03:33:52 am
what I meant was that the reflection from the handle, the bright crystal can not be seen on a material surface like any cloth.  you know what I mean?  unless it\'s some different material like leather.  heck, maybe i\'m wrong, i don\'t know.

plus, the angle of the shadow from the sword handle looks kind of crooked on the second pic.  maybe it\'s the way it\'s suppose to be, but I saw something wrong in that when I looked on the picture.

First step of, what I hope to be, the first fully detailed profile of my character Moogie. Yesh, it\'s not exactly Medieval style clothing... but I wasn\'t really thinking of PS at the time. Just Moogie. :)

Things to be altered:
Eyes (widened a little, better shape)
Trousers (fix fold lines and thicken the legs)
Guidelines (i.e. remove them, it looks like she has bars of soap stuffed down her top :D )
Buckles (lots, lots more buckles! On her gloves, trousers, arms...)
Wings (to be drawn seriously)

When everything\'s drawn to almost-perfection, I\'ll attempt colouring in PS. Something I\'ve never, ever, EVER been able to do. :P

First inking. This was done on a trace, so it looks a bit different. I\'m already thinking this isn\'t going to work... :P ...but I\'ll try.

I need to add fold lines again and then it\'ll hopefully be ready for colouring.

[Edit: Oh blah and screw it. I\'m going to ink the original. Every time I look at this copy I hate it that little bit more. :P]

Well, they\'re both quite nice, but the first one is definitely better. Good job.

But nobody really cares what I say so, meh.

Here\'s the stuff I\'ve been getting behind on.

Here\'s the last of the weapon table series:

And for those of you who\'ve read my TotJ and were wondering what  Tallic looked like, here\'s a sketch:

Finally, here\'s a little thingy I drew up a few hours ago. She was supposed to be for Planeshift, but the gun sort of worked its way in there and then the tanktop and the greased hair. So what if she\'s not attractive, I\'m sure she\'s a very nice person. :P

:] Ok, my post is finished, you can take your hand off the monitor and stop cussing. :P

Cool sketch, Djagg. I like your style.

Heh, my one and only fan. :D I may have described Tallics before, but I don\'t think so. If you noticed I never actually said what race the big guy in the tavern was, but logic should dictate that a 5 meter-tall dude would not fit. :P I also gave some evidence as to his race by his language. ;)

Sashok, that picture is funny! LMAO! \"Who stole my boot...\" That\'s classic!

Amongst all these pictures this might sound stupid but... how do you get them in your posts? Excuse me for my computer ignorance.
Title:
Post by: Moogie on November 20, 2003, 01:30:19 am
Zene: First you\'ll need some webspace to host the pictures. For a list of good free examples, check out this page (http://faq.ozoneasylum.com/244/rating/). Note that many of the listed hosters may be down when you look- free hosting companies never last long. ;)

Once you\'ve created an account and uploaded your pictures, make a note of the pic\'s URL. Copy it to your clipboard or on a notepad doc. To insert the picture into your post, you would type the following:

[IMG]http://www.webhost.com/mypicture.jpg[/IMG]

...which is the URL of your picture sandwitched between two IMG tags. Don\'t forget the forward slash in the closing IMG tag. Also, capitalisation doesn\'t seem to matter anymore :P so nevermind what I originally said here.

Now click submit and with any luck your picture will appear in your post. Please try to keep pictures to jpg or gif format and below 200kb when posting them on these forums.
Title:

Don\'t be ashamed. Everyone started out as a newbie. :)

To host an image you simple upload it somewhere ( http://upl.mine.nu is a good site), and img the images here.

EX: [img]imageURL[/img]

EDIT: Darn it, Moogie. You\'re too darn fast! ;) Note: you don\'t have to use CAPS, eh.

This is sumthin\' that might be considered as a endikua.
I wish I had more time to draw a nice picture but I think it is more important for me to actaully work with the game instead. So here goes:

If this is Niberius \"Niber\" Nebuchadnezzar I haven\'t decide. I want to be a shapeshifter but I haven\'t checked if PS will have that so meanwhile this warrior is Niberius Nebuchadnezzar.

edit: forgot to say that he is suppost to be standing on something. But I didn\'t have the energi to add that.

great picture sashok, the klyros looks really nice.

there should be a seperate forum for this, there has already been posted enough for more then 10 threads. and we could have fan-art competitions in there ^^
Title:
Post by: sashok on November 21, 2003, 04:48:29 pm
nice try everyone.  Now that  I think abut it, I have no idea what\'s hapenning in the picture.  Maybe is like the dwarf is trying on new boot and klyros is like \"hurry up fool, our mission is more important than your new shoes\".  and the dwarf is like \"shut yer mouth birdy, can a dworf enjoy a good footwear?\"

-p.s. yeah, there should be a seperate forum named art.  screenshots from game could go there/ fan art, etc.

new edit:  yeah, that background sucks as*

here\'s new one, without a background, but with a new bench :), and I think i made them darker a bit

Prods the reason why it doesnt look quite right (U lazy sod just mirroring it, thats not it though) is becase the ground path and hills are all from one angle which is slightly elevated, and the castle is from straight on, so it gives the impression of a pop up castle =D

(oh and the flat sky doesnt help much)

Nice texture usage though.

Sorry, I\'ve been gone for the last week or so, but I\'ve been busy. I\'ll get to posting something else tonight.

Great pictures everyone. My only regret is that I don\'t have time to congratulate you all by name.

Moogie: I think I know what was happening. A while ago people were using hostmysig.com (myimgs.com) and for a forum link, that site gives you a php address. People were putting the php address in their IMG tags instead of the actual .jpg (or whatever). There\'s more, but you can figure it out from there. ;)

I can\'t be sure, but I think the problem is with the picture format. Bitmaps are not very internet friendly. Convert it to a JPEG (.jpg) and it should be fine. Until then people can just copy and paste the link in their address bar.

I know, you\'re all scared when you see a post of mine in this thread, knowing how badly my artwork sucks :P

However, I have started to dabble in the field of ASCII art.  This is a trade long forgotten from the days before graphical interfaces came out.  However, it is still a widely accepted form of artwork by netizens all over the globe.

Since my first piece (http://www.planeshift3d.com/wbboard/thread.php?threadid=6613&boardid=13#6) seemed to gain a bit of praise, I figured I\'d try my hand at it again.  Only this time...something much more difficult.

Basically sucking as an artist in general, I started with a pre-fabricated image, located here (http://67.168.113.74/images/38.jpg) (I didn\'t link to their main site since it\'s down a lot) ? Triglow Pictures 2003.  I took that, and ran an image filter on it to bring it down to the black borders between the major color areas.  I then proceeded to type in text right over the image so I could match it as close as possible.

Well, I spent way too much time working on it, and no matter what I did it never looked nearly as good as I was hoping it would.  But I\'ll post it here in hopes that a more experienced ASCII artist will come across it and hopefully give me pointers on improving my technique.

Don\'t take it to hard on me though; this is the first time I\'ve tried drawing something this complex:

(note: try taking a few steps back from your computer, it tends to look a bit better that way  :D)

Umm... there\'s sites full of them, way more complex than that.

Onto my own work:

I was going to draw Annah (having suddenly declared today Annah Flame Day), then I realized that http://www.flamewarriors.com had already done it for me (see Xenophobe) :P . So I made this masterpiece instead, using the proffessional graphics tool Microsoft Paint.  :D

If my work is well liked, you may see more in the future. 8)

Hey, think it\'s about time we start bugging the devs to add a Fanart section? ;)

I like that fresco effect. But it inhibits the coloring a bit. Is that why she\'s an albino?

Copy and paste the URL.

Moogie: That is so cool, it looks like some sort of mural.
And lynx, it inhibits the coloring in a good way, to make it seem like... a mural.

is this thread still being used or not??

Well anyways...here is my first try; just some armor. but i\'ll only give the links.

Oh by the way can anyone tell me why the scan\'s aren\'t being saved at there original size?? because the helmets are actually a lot smaller.  And the armor was also smaller..but on my pc when i viewed the armor it as smaller then when u vieuw them at this link?? WHY????????

First of all, hello, everyone.  It\'s been a long time, made longer by how much I missed you, every one of you. The older members (I can\'t really say Old Skool, though I would have liked to, because I myself am not really that old) will remember me. Greets to you. Any new members...well, they probably don\'t even care, so it works out. :)

Better get through the wave of compliments. That ASCII art is quite good, at least better than I could ever do. ;) Moogie, you never cease to amaze me. Your art is an inspiration. I can never get over the cloth-fold barrier, but you seem to have managed that easily enough. Congratulations on a stupendous display. The colouring is great as well. :D THAPRINZE, those are very nice armour designs, not the most intricate I\'ve seen, but good nonetheless.

Your files are saved at their proper resolution. The program you open them with shrinks them for you. To fix the size problem, simply open your prefered photo editting software (even MS Paint will do) and shrink them to about half their size.

Great work everyone. :) I\'m working on another pic myself. Nothing great, you understand, just the usual. I should be able to get it up by tomorrow. *everyone groans and covers their eyes* Roight, then. Tally ho.

Greetings to everyone.

It has been a while since the last post to this thread, but i guess it can still be used. I\'ve only just joined the forums, but i hope i\'ll get this right. Planeshift has a lot of potential, and it is a privilege to be part of the community around it and being able to watch how Planeshift develops further.

To the point then. Fan art. I was going to submit this to LWW, but it has been down for a while, so i\'ll post it here instead. Any comments welcome.

Picture key:
Bottom middle - shows each article at their original size.
Left - mixed setups, examples how objects could be used together.
Right - huge knife, fork and spoon. Added them to give a \"closer look\" on the objects.
Top - large plates on the wall show the texture from both sides.

Tableware named \"Spring\". It consists of big plate, soup plate, coffee cup, fork, knife and a spoon. In addition, by scaling down some of the former, you get teaspoon and small plate. You could also scale up the soup plate to create a bowl (e.g. for lettuce). While designed for decorational purposes, maybe this set could also make a nicer wedding gift than a 5 feet cleaver. ;)

The set has two 256*256 textures, one for the ceramic objects and other for the metallic. I tried to keep polygon count at a reasonable level. Models made with Blender.

Cup: 37 vertices, 70 faces (triangle).
Big plate: 20 vertices, 36 faces.
Soup plate: 20 vertices, 36 faces.
Fork: 19 vertices, 34 faces.
Knife: 19 vertices, 34 faces.
Spoon: 18 vertices, 32 faces.

Hello Kintall!

I\'ve been checking your work as a guest, and i find it truly amazing. Excellent work. And your thread name ain\'t that bad, its very unique, personal. ;)

And thanks for the tip, i followed your advice and started a new thread.

 - Edit 11.01.2005 -

Cherppow\'s super sneak modeling attack technique!

Only the most sneakiest Cherppow-spying forum members will find this from a thread that isn\'t used anymore! ;)

The Gap Sylak. For more info about Gap Sylak creature, check out Simple Pencil Drawings thread.

The model has 200 trianges and uses 128*128 tga texture with alpha channel transparency. The transparent areas are not double face, as it would have increased the face count by 48 tri, so the smoothened hairy edges are not visible from below the creature.

Well, id say that the model is very good... but, the creature\'s face looks a bit too human like.  Maybe change the mouth or something, just doesnt look right for some reason.

Of course that is just my opinion...
