Title: Race-Specific Equipmenu?
Post by: Ald'Amun Dungeonrunner on November 06, 2003, 04:05:49 pm
Hey all...It\'s Jalix...I\'m just an idiot and couldn\'t remember my password and whatnot so I made a new account...Yeah but back to the post. Do you think there should be race-specific equipment? Such as maybe boots that only fit the feet of an Enkidukai or maybe some sort of decortations that could only go on the wings of a Klyros? Just a thought...tell me what you think...of my thought....thinking....cough cough....

Edit: I need to learn how to type...race-specific equipmenu anyone?

Yes, definitively a good idea. For some equipment/objects, i think that even if all races can use it, they will have different behaviour, depending on the race that use it. (for example, an enchanted forest bow can give elves a +X attack bonus, while equipped on a dwarf, it will slowly decrease the poor dwarf dex/hp)

Yes, I always found it annyoing in some games where you would get a really good item, to find out it was only usable by a specific class.  I really liked in PristonTale how items would have \"specializations,\" where any class could use that item, but if that spec class equipped it, they would gain special bonuses.

Great ideas people!  :D

Nice idea! but as xandria said, it would be annoying to have all kinds of weapons that you can\'t use.
so items can be equiped by all races, but it only gives 1(or more) races an advantage/disadvantage.

i like that idea.  like a delicate, fast sword that everyone gets a bonus with, except for dwarves, kran, and maybe the ynnwn...

Jessyn

...i like elipses too...

I agree that some items should be like this but there should also be the rare item only usable by certain races. Oh yes, and Jessyn...I\'m quite confident I like them more than you...much more...

Race-specific weapons can be excellent, especially when it gives a higher protection and/or hit points at a lower skill requirement.

On the other hand it is a pain in the arse to pick up an awesome item only to discover that it\'s not for your race.   But then there\'s always trading in game and sharing equipment within guilds.

I also dont see it as too much of a problem if you find an ?ber item you can\'t use. You just sell it and buy yourself an ?ber item that you can use.  8)

It\'s already been stated that Klyros can\'t wear heavy armor. There should be a super-heavy armor class that only Kran can wear.

On that note, maybe there should be different sizes of armor (Planeshift originality), and you\'d get a bonus or malus for a good or bad fit. I think that a dwarf would wear a different size chainmail shirt then a Ylian. *recalls a scene from the 2nd LOTR movie involving Gimli in the armory*

Anyway, Diaboli can\'t wield blessed weapons, unless they\'re not blessed by the Divinty who usually blesses stuff (my way of saying be more specific with \"blessed\".). Maybe Diaboli could put the equivalent of a spear head (made of lightweight metal) on the tip of their tail, which might also work for Enkids.

Heh, maybe Dwarves could wield pickaxes as weapons and have a whole section for pickaxing... no that wouldn\'t work.  :P

Perhaps if a weapon is made by a smith of your own race, you get a bonus when wielding it, since it was probably designed for humans. Or maybe blacksmiths could choose what race their stuff would be for.

I\'m rambling and I have homework to do. Good idea Ald\'Amun. :)

~trys to scroll past huge Pic.~

Anyhow, the idea of a race specific weapon is definatly plausable, as that means that you would have to choose a profession in a weapon that your race actually gets bonuses from.  Doesnt that mean that your creating almost discrimination among the races already? =)
I\'m sure it would definatly make a cool dynamic to the game. But it should be even more specific... make it so that not every race can use them.... but they dont actually give bonuses.  That way you would be not limited to a particular weapon/race type and therefore limit the diversity you can take.... it should be equal whethere you choose dagger or sword....
